In a chat earlier this week, former U.S. hockey player Mike Eruzione told SportsNation he wasn't sure the Miracle on Ice could ever be duplicated, given the magnitude of the sporting upset and the significance off the ice.

Beating Spain in soccer in a tournament that doesn't have nearly the importance of the World Cup doesn't prove Eruzione wrong (unless someone put a wall up in Madrid and didn't tell us). But JP Dellacamera probably could have gotten away with an Al Michaels impersonation at the end of the 2-0 upset in South Africa.

As the semifinal got underway, only 30 percent of SportsNation picked the United States to win against a team with a 35-match unbeaten streak. Soon after it ended, thousands had already declared it a game-changing moment for soccer in the United States.
