Perhaps the only upside about taking a shot to the gut like the one Andy Roddick absorbed in Sunday's men's final at Wimbledon is that after five sets and more than 70 games of tennis, there wasn't much left to dislodge from his stomach. But at least he has SportsNation on his side. That's got to be worth almost as much as a title, right?

No? Well, perhaps Federer at least offered to let NetJets fly Mr. and Mrs. Roddick home.

While the great American hope was en route to the Wimbledon final, only a third of SportsNation thought a title would change their opinion "a lot" when it came to his career. But after Sunday's drama, it's tough to imagine he didn't earn himself at least a few new fans, even if it's as a result of the Phil Mickelson hard-luck loser phenomenon.

i am not a huge tennis fan to say the least, but that 5th set was the most riveting tennis i have ever seen. that was epic. roddick deserved that more than federer, but his time will come.

I'm a big fan of Fed because of his incredibly smooth and athletic game, best I've seen and I've been watching tennis live and on TV for 40 years now. I must admit I was rooting for Roddick, what a gutsy performance, proof that hard work and dedication can take you to heights that surpass your natural talents. Roddick is hitting groundshots and showing touch that he never had before, if he plays this well at the open he has a great chance. Seeing tennis history made was pretty amazing, albeit a bittersweet experience for American tennis fans.
