When most fans hear the term "America's Team," they, like a contestant on the "$100,000 Pyramid," immediately associate the NFL's Dallas Cowboys with it. Why? Because in 1979 club president Tex Schramm made sure the nickname (coined by then NFL Films editor-in-chief, Bob Ryan) stuck with the team. But does it really count if you're the one calling your own team by that name? (Or if you haven't won a playoff game since 1996)?

We weren't sure. Therefore, since the phrase never had a chance to find its own destiny, we've decided to ask SportsNation which NFL franchise would be named "America's Team" if the moniker was up to, imagine this, America! Vote in the poll below and share with other fans your opinion on the topic.

When it comes down to "America's team," then it has to come down to who represents America the best. Dallas is hollywood's team, not America's. The Patriots have been irrelevant before this decade. So, that leaves Pittsburgh and Green Bay. It's hard to go against a team that is owned by the citizens of the city. With Pittsburgh, it's all about coming to work with your hard hats and tool belts(with no public drama or negative media press). My opinion does go to the Steelers over the Packers. Ultimately, I think the Steeler's consistency in playing styles, since the 70's teams to the team of today, gives the Steelers a slight edge over the Packers.

The DALLAS COWBOYS are America's Team. Why? Because we were the original. Do I have a more legit reason than that? Not really! Haha... Except maybe that pretty much anywhere you go in the country (save DC, Philly, or NYC) you can someone wearing a Dallas jersey on any given Sunday.

    • Christopher HarrisI do think Benson will be back, but that's not based on any specific knowledge, more just on reading the tea leaves. Benson was reportedly pretty close to practicing last week, so I'd think he'll be giving it a go this week. Scott probably has earned himself a few more carries per game when Benson's in there, though, which will mostly just serve as a nuisance for Benson owners....
    • Ken (Pittsburgh)Who's a better play in a PPR league going forward? D Avery or B Gibson...
    • Christopher HarrisHi, Ken. I guess I'd have to say Gibson, just because of the number of targets he's getting. It's pretty crazy. What'd he have yesterday? Seventeen? Man. He made a bunch of mistakes, including a dropped touchdown, but he does seem like he'll get a lot of looks.
    • Chris (Bowmanville, ON)Chris! Happy Monday!! How interesting was it to see Palmer get the goalline runs yesterday over Bernard Scott? Was that a trust thing with Scott??
