Apparently 'tis better to have won and had it vacated than never to have won at all ... in a BCS conference. Just ask Kyle Whittingham (that's him, on the right).

Bobby Bowden's team last won double-digit games back in 2003 -- otherwise known as back when the coach was younger than radar is now. And while nine wins might work if you're Howard Schnellenberger at Florida Atlantic, it's not exactly what folks in Tallahassee expect. And yet when "SportsNation" put together its daily ranker on the best college football coaches for today's show, there was Bowden, while Utah's Whillingham and Boise State's Chris Petersen couldn't get a sniff of the proceedings.

No wonder Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) felt compelled to write an op-ed on the inherent unfairness of the current system in college football. Greg Schiano? Seriously?

Bowden has just turned into a pathetic character. Nobody believes he has any clue about or control over his organization anymore. He just hangs on like a tick because he wants more wins than Joe Paterno, a coach that 100% of coaches polled would say is a vastly superior coach.

If Paterno's words can't help sway the NCAA against punishing Bowden, then it will be a shame. I obviously want JoePa to win it all and I personally think it's BS that Bowden's wins at Hampton count towards the records, but I hope that none of Bowden's wins get taken away.
