What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, or so the slogan suggests, but football fans in Buffalo might warn their Nevada brethren that's not necessarily a promising scenario when J.P. Losman is involved.

The former Bills first-round pick and his career 75.6 quarterback rating are headed to the upstart United Football League's Las Vegas franchise, and aside from making them the favorite should they ever play the Detroit Lions, the move puts the new league in the headlines on the eve (give or take a few months) of its first season.

Fantasy football is going to be a little difficult with the UFL -- there are only four teams, so we don't exactly advocate waiting to grab a quarterback in the later rounds -- but the Orlando Sentinel's Chris Hays lays out the league's plan for success. For now, SportsNation isn't buying it for a second, having seen the New Jersey Generals, London Monarchs, Memphis Maniax and Winnipeg Blue Bombers fail to blaze a trail. (The Blue Bombers still play? Get out of here.)

I love football, and I hope and pray this league succeeds and then plays its games during the SPRING so I'm not bored to death in times like these when its just baseball. Take over what the world league was doing, except put it on TV and at normal times for normal people to watch and keep it here in the states.... Every big name player I liked in college who doesn't pan out in the NFL I could watch in here would be awesome. Plus they could maybe steal guys from the AFL and CFL (Canada). I hope Losman rips it up and this thing is a huge success.

If JP wasn't all these years in Buffalo but instead in Pittsburgh nobody would be calling him a bust. The guy will be back and then everybody's gonna be calling him a hero. I'm rooting for him, this guy will be special, just watch, I hope the Dolphins grab him next season.

The UFL could be to the NFL what the iPod is to Microsoft: huge competition. Once the UFL starts taking money out of the NFL pockets the NFL will look to brand the UFL or sink it by making it tougher for players to switch between leagues or marketing the NFL even more by adding more games and possibly lowering ticket prices in an attempt to make the UFL go under.
