Is it better to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy three or four times or to be Vince Lombardi? Forget your slings and arrows of fortune; that's the question.

As we're all wont to do during the long weeks of summer before people in pads start hitting each other (it's either that or debate how the MLS should play its All-Star Game), Sporting News decided to stir up some debate and rank the top 50 coaches of all time. Consider us stirred, and more than a little shaken that Wayne Fontes was inexplicably missing from the proceedings.

We've done our fair share of coach ranking over the years, from the best college basketball coaches to the best gridiron minds and baseball managers, but are you in agreement with Sporting News' coaching jambalaya?

Frankly, we're wondering if Knute Rockne is there on merit or Hollywood bonus points. And sorry, with or without video technology, we're handing the reins to Bill Belichick before Chuck Noll. Then again, we thought that Jerry Tarkanian and the Spurs experiment would work out well. Check out what Peter Gammons had to say on "Mike and Mike," left, about the baseball guys on the list (around the 11:30 mark).

i firmly believe that the best NBA coach of all time is Red Auerbach. simply because he was able to completely dominate a decade like he did he won the majority of his 9 titles with 10 years between his first and last. Jackson won his first in 91 and he is looking for the one title to surpass auerbach and hold the record for 10 titles 18 years after his first that almost twice as much time to win one more title than red. THE END!!

It's knowing how to manage divas like Jordan, Kobe, and Shaq. It's finding the right use for players like Gasol, Ariza, and D Fish. To take away from what Jackson has accomplished as a coach, simply because he had great players is absolutely ridiculous.
