Mark Your Calendars

The NFL has carved an empire out of Shawne Merriman pounding a quarterback into the turf and Randy Moss leaping over cornerbacks to haul in touchdowns. But it has also earned a stranglehold on the sports scene by turning a seemingly mundane event like its schedule release into high drama (did we mention the draft is moving to three days?).

Well, SportsNation is bullish on the health of the NBA, but matching that calendar-induced fervor is a little more challenging when you're marketing 82 games per team instead of 16 once-a-week games. Trust us, those midweek, mid-January tilts between the Bucks and Warriors don't exactly sell themselves. Nonetheless, the warm glow basketball fans feel today is the knowledge that another NBA season is close enough to put down on paper.

Besides, it's never too early to start studying. Just ask the 81.8 percent of SportsNation that didn't predict LeBron James would win MVP last season, or the 96.4 percent that didn't predict the Magic would win the East. Study up.

"the Los Angeles Lakers will receive their championship rings prior to facing the Clippers" … This is the closest the Clips will ever come to getting a ring!
