LeGone James?

Will somebody throw Cleveland sports a bone? Just in case the Cliff Lee/Victor Martinez incidents weren't painful enough, LeBron James is now "keeping his options open" for the 2010-11 NBA season and beyond, and asking us to play a game of "fill in the blanks." (Cleveland, you might want to sit this one out.)

The response was triggered by questions about LeBron's still-unsigned contract extension that the Cavaliers offered him on July 18. While there was no report he was eating a "big apple" at the time of the statement, the news cannot bode well for Cleveland fans.

Since James suggested that we go ahead and "fill in the blanks" regarding his 2010 free agency, we really had no other choice than to listen to the King and speculate. That's why we turned to the best "fill in the blank" team around, SportsNation, to see what you thought. Almost 60 percent of you said that James will be tempted by other options, and will leave his hometown of Cleveland. Not surprisingly, Ohio thinks (or is just praying) that James will remain in Cleveland beyond next year.

Whether he stays or not, will all this speculation hurt the Cavaliers in the upcoming 2009-10 season? Vote below.

Why wouldn't Lebron explore free agency? Even if he does end up staying in Cleveland beyond 2010, he will likely receive huge contract offers from several teams. He will then have to decide between which offer is the best and which teams with those offers have the best chance of being a legitimate champion contender immediately and in the future.

I figured he wouldn't sign anything with the Cavs right now, Lebron has one foot out of the door already.

basically what he's saying is this: lets see which Shaq im getting...the great one who with kobe led the lakers to a 3peat, the average one that wade carried to one ring, or the bad one that led nash to the lottery. im guessing the wade one, good enough to challenge, but not great enough to get over the c's or lakers

if he signs an extension now compared to after this season when he is a free agent, he will lose tons of money, and even if he does want to leave it would be in his best interest to do a sign and trade with the cavs and a team of his choice cause he can bring in 30 mil more by doing that.
