The Pro Football Hall of Fame welcomed its newest members over the weekend, and former Bills sack machine Bruce Smith is SportsNation's pick for class valedictorian. But if vying for top honors against the legacies of legends like Rod Woodson, Bob Hayes, Randall McDaniel and Derrick Thomas is tough, it's a stroll to the quarterback compared to earning top marks as the best pass-rusher of all time.

Both Smith and Thomas are on the list of candidates as the best pure quarterback-sacking machine in the game's history, a topic of discussion on Monday's "SportsNation" show (4 p.m. and midnight ET, ESPN2). But as good as both were, they're no locks against Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Michael Strahan and others.

Just because Smith has one more sack the Reggie (200/Smith - 199/White) does not make him better. The only reason Smith played as long as he did was to catch Reggie and become the all-time sack leader. Reggie got 199 sacks in FEWER games then Bruce Smith!!!

what some don't realize about Bruce Smith was that he was tough as hell against the run. A DE logging 100 tackles in a year is crazy and i think he did it more than once.
