You probably don't have lasting memories of the combined Swedish-Danish team (well, sure, put those two together and they could win anything) that captured gold in tug-of-war during the 1900 Olympics. But are you any clearer on which country won the most medals in modern pentathlon (gratuitous horse-crash video here) when the world gathered in Beijing last year?

If you didn't guess Lithuania, you helped make our case that inclusion in the Olympics doesn't exactly guarantee a prominent place in the American sporting landscape. Nevertheless, many fans, like those of Cat Osterman over there, are anxiously awaiting word of which sports the International Olympic Committee will add for 2016.

SportsNation would like to see baseball reinstated, as long as it comes with the best players, but that appears unlikely in reality. In fact, for all the talk of professionals tarnishing the true ethos of Olympic competition, voters don't seem all that interested in watching amateurs in any sport.
