Protest, But Don't Disrupt The Tailgating

Sal Paolantonio noted plenty of negative reaction among fans at Lincoln Financial Field as the news of Michael Vick's signing broke during the preseason game Thursday night.

Some Eagles fans who post on ESPN.com echoed confusion, frustration and disgust, but as the conversations raged on the profiles, blogs, message boards and conversations, many others closed ranks around the jersey.

They're bolstered by SportsNation, which favors the Eagles to win the NFC East and says the signing was a smart move.

The comments below come from those most affected by the decision: Fans who have publicly declared they follow the Eagles and will have to put up with the signs in the stands at away games and taunting from conference rivals and Pittsburgh residents.

Seemed like a contrite enough presser. I like it. [Vick] was humble, honest and upfront about his past. As an Eagle fan, there's trepidation about this -- obviously I hope this ends up well -- but you never know, what with his absence from the game and such. Nice to see Donovan had his back though.

Michael Vick's acts were hideous, but if Tony Dungy stands by him, I'm willing to give him another shot. PETA needs to know Darien and Pattison [street intersection by the stadium] is a family inside those gates. Vick needs to know that he is on a short leash, a very short leash. Don't let us down.

I can't wait to see the reaction the PETA people get from us if they do show up at the Linc on Sundays. Hah, hah, hah, hah. Man, this is going to be awesome. Where would the protesters stand? They better not try to go into the parking lot. They'll probably just stand up near the gates under security supervision. Men will be telling them to shut their mouths, women, children. Ahhhhh, I'm even more excited for this season now! It's a perfect fit for Vick because NO ONE will care about the protests here. There will be a very small percentage of fans the Eagles may lose, very small, but we didn't want that type of person anyway. E-A-G-L-E-S! EAGLES!

    • Mel KiperThis is what you look forward to. Football on Thursday. Friday, college football all day. Then a big Saturday of college football and Sunday and Monday NFL. Two great games Sunday night and Monday night. We also have a traditional high school rivalry game here Thursday morning. And a lot of good eating with the turkey, pumpkin pie, dressing and all of that.

    • Mel KiperI think the decision's been made. I think Charlie defined the Notre Dame job when he took the reins when he said 6-5 is not good enough. To be 6-5 on the cusp of 6-6 with a loss to Stanford. I think he'll go back to the NFL and do a good job there. The beginning of the tenure was good the end was not. They couldn't build a defense. What surprised me was Urban Meyer being proactive and saying no to Notre Dame. If I were him, I'd leave to go to Notre Dame. How many times do you have four full years of a player as good as Tim Tebow, arguably the greatest college football player of all time. You could never duplicate the success you've had with Tim Tebow. Add in Percy Harvin and the great defense. Am I ever going to find another Tim Tebow? Maybe, but I'm not counting on it. National recruiting at Notre Dame. They're down right now and there's no where to go but up. I would jump at the opportunity to go from Florida to Notre Dame. So, that was surprising to me. It opens up opportunities for Brian Kelly, Pat Fitzgerald, Chip Kelly, Jim Harbaugh. Also, Jim Harbaugh, he's beaten USC, who Notre Dame plays every year. Recruiting with the high academic standards, recruiting nationally. Pat Fitzgerald same thing. And he has the Northwestern background like Parsigian did.
    • Ryan (Oshkosh)Tashard Choice could be a stud running back if given 250 carries a year say 1200 yds and 10 TD's. Agree? Should Dallas hold on to him?
