When Scoreboards Attack

The Arena Football League is no more, but the joys of fielding kicks in less than traditional circumstances lives on.

The AFL had its kicks off the endzone nets; the Cowboys' new stadium offers punts off the video screen. Actually, the Titans had to take a mulligan when AJ Trapasso's boot hit the massive screen during the third quarter of last week's preseason game, but watching blockers scramble to avoid being hit by the ricochet would be so much more fun to watch than fair catches.

Leave it to the NFL to ruin the fun, with the rules committee reportedly considering forcing the Cowboys to raise the scoreboard (which they're doing for an upcoming U2 concert).

And while we're at it, what is it with Trapasso? This is the same guy who took a fake field goal 40 yards to the house in the team's exhibition opener. Chad Ochocinco has some company as the most entertaining kicking reserve in the league.

So Jones can raise it 25 feet for a U2 concert, but not for a game? OK he wants his home field advantage big screen. If I am the opposing team, I have my punter warm up by drilling the screen as much as possible trying to break the picture.
