The NL wild card and AL Central may give us some last-minute drama, but the best races in baseball this season have been for three of the four major individual awards (we'll go ahead and hand the NL MVP to Albert Pujols). Likewise, while top-five teams in college football keep falling by the wayside, the Heisman Trophy race is already taking shape with rising stars Jahvid Best and Jacory Harris mounting challenges to Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy.

We all root for championships, but some of the best sports debates center on the individual awards that take on a life of their own. So which awards are the most prestigious?

The only man ever to twice take home the Heisman Trophy (for at least a few more months), former Ohio State legend Archie Griffin has been good enough to chat with SportsNation on pretty much an annual basis over the past five years.

Darrell (Tennessee)

Where do you keep your Heismans and how proud were you of yourself when you won your second one?

Archie Griffin
c

Bill, I keep one of the Heismans at home and the other one I keep at a friends restaurant. I was extremely proud to win the second one. I didn't think they'd give it to anyone twice. I was overwhelmed. It speaks about the teams I played with at OSU. We had some outstanding people. I was in the right place at the right time. Full transcript (Dec. 7, 2007)

Jack Peterson (MA)

Do you think the Heisman Trophy has lost any of it's luster? Do you think it means as much to players today as it did 20 years ago?

Archie Griffin
c

The Heisman has not lost any luster. It seems to be gaining momentum .. people talk about it all year long. That wasn't the case 20 years ago. These people who have the chance to compete for the Trophy, they certainly want to win it. It will stick with them for the rest of their life. Since I won, my name is no longer Archie Griffin .. it's two-time Heisman winner Archie Griffin. It changes your name! Full transcript (Dec. 29, 2004)

    • wade (sacramento, ca)Is clinton portis going to be back next week? and if not, do you think rock cartright is a worthy option for RB?
    • Stephania BellWade: Portis is already out for Week 12 and Cartwright stepped in and did a nice job when Betts was forced out with injury. So I think he's a worthy option.
    • Jesse (Indianapolis)We are having turkey fried, roasted and smoked. Which do you prefer? Oh, what is up with Calvin Johnson?
    • Stephania BellJesse: I have never had fried turkey - but I hear it's the best! Dying to try it...As far as Johnson, he got banged up (knee again, especially near the end of the game and his hand which was bothering him heading into the game). With it being a Thursday game the team is being very non-committal, making it seem that he is doubtful, but I still think there's a decent chance he plays - as of now. We really get little though from the Lions in advance, so you'd better have a backup ready.
