Motor City Showdown

The four-game set between the Twins and Tigers that kicks off Monday night in Detroit is just like the Red Sox-Yankees series that just wrapped up, with the possible exception that this one actually matters.

Sure, the Yankees and Red Sox were No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in SportsNation's Power Rankings last week, but they're both headed to the playoffs (unofficially, in the case of the Red Sox). The Tigers and Twins were on the fringes of the top 10 a week ago, but one of them will get a shot at the Yankees in a best-of-five playoff series.

On Aug. 26, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota were the only states predicting a Twins division title. Now the team is two wins away from pulling dead even.
