Michael Jordan's son is embroiled in a minor controversy at the University of Central Florida. Marcus Jordan, who plays on the school's basketball team, is refusing to wear the school's contract-mandated adidas shoes because he says his father's Air Jordans hold special significance to him. Is the younger Jordan off base?

Marcus, you are a UCF student athlete. UCF has a contract with adidas. Hence you have to wear adidas. Case closed.

Because his name is Jordan, he as well as UCF is going to get a lot more attention, media coverage, TV coverage and viewership, ticket sales, etc. It would not surprise me if the net increase from having Jordan on the team exceeds $3M over the course of his collegiate career. All that increased publicity also benefits adidas since the rest of the team and arena logos will feature the adidas brand.
