Do you ever wonder if MLB general managers are really starved for attention? It seems like every time a major deal or signing is announced, it's never allowed to simply own the spotlight; some other team has to go and trump it with an even ... majorer deal or signing. We would have used correct grammar there, but what can you say about a proposed series of deals that essentially swap two Cy Young winners almost straight up?

Mere hours after the Red Sox potentially signed John Lackey, the Phillies, Blue Jays, and Mariners got together and potentially went absolutely bonkers. The particulars of the various deals aren't yet hashed out, but amid the bevy of prospects being bandied about, Cliff Lee will go to the Mariners and Roy Halladay will pitch for the Phillies. Immediately, this makes both rotations kind of terrifying; Seattle can come at you with both Lee and Felix Hernandez (backed up by the best defense in the league), while Philadelphia can throw Halladay and Cole Hamels into the mix. Do either of those options sound like something you'd want your team to face in a short series? Us neither.

Oddly enough, SportsNation saw the Phillies as one of the least likely destinations for Halladay, with the Red Sox leading the pack. Instead, the Red Sox will potentially settle for noted mound lawyer John Lackey. Are they really settling, though? Over the past five seasons, Lackey's stats have actually been better than that Josh Beckett guy's. We guess that's what "settling" looks like to the haves.

If Lackey signs with Boston is it more proof that this offseason is about the length of the contract? Also, would the Angels have to trade for Halladay to have a chance at the AL West?

I'm not sure what you mean about Lackey. Regarding the Angels and Halladay, I'm not a big believer in "have to"s ... Let's see how things shake out, huh? The Angels would have won last season even without Lackey. Full transcript
