Tom Dempsey and Jason Elam are kickers, but other than that there's not much similarity between them. Dempsey was a linebacker-sized kicker who played in the 1970s, used a straight-on style and wore a specialized shoe to account for the fact that he was born with no toes on his right foot. Elam was an average-sized man who retired this season and kicked soccer-style. The only thing that binds them together, other than their occupation, is the record they share. Dempsey and Elam kicked 63-yard field goals, the longest in NFL history. Sport Science analyzed the circumstances surrounding both kicks to see which was more impressive.
