Has Griffin passed Luck?
Robert Griffin III is fast. This is an indisputable fact -- when he wasn't masterminding Baylor's passing game this season, he was putting up pretty impressive rushing numbers and making defenders look silly. His performance at the NFL combine, however, has revealed just how fast he is -- he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds, the second-fastest of all time among quarterbacks.
Is the 40 the be-all end-all?
The 40-yard dash has a kind of magic about it -- people ooh and aah over particularly fast dash times and engage in a bit of good-natured mockery over particularly slow ones. If you had to, would you judge an average NFL player by his 40 time over every other combine test?
Does the combine matter?
Here is Andrew Luck executing a standard broad jump -- a move that he will do exactly zero times in his hopefully lengthy NFL career. It's good to get as much information as possible about the player you're about to draft, but is the combine really predictive?
