The David Beckham experiment in MLS is over, at least as far as his playing days are concerned. In six seasons, the player/underwear model was responsible for 18 goals, 40 assists and countless dollars in marketing pull that have helped grow the league into an undeniable presence. But how much of that growth can be credited to Beckham?
MLS may not be at the level of other major sports in the U.S., but averaging 18,807 fans in the regular season is a start.
The Beckham Effect?
MLS has added seven new teams since Beckham's arrival in 2007, and 10 more teams now play in soccer-specific stadiums.
A man of many talents?
With his chiseled good looks and choice Lakers seats, Beckham seems just as comfortable in front of the camera as he does on the pitch.
