The bulk of SportsNation believed Rex Ryan would be gone on Monday, but the Jets had other ideas. Ryan will stay as coach, but GM Mike Tannenbaum was fired, taking the bulk of the blame for a 6-10 season. Jets owner Woody Johnson's decision to keep Ryan may come as a bit of a surprise, but we'll see next season whether his trust was misplaced -- and whether Ryan will last the season.
Ryan has promised a lot in his tenure with the team, but hasn't quite delivered the goods over the past few seasons.
Against all odds?
Black Monday is usually less than kind to coaches of underperforming teams, but Ryan managed to retain his position.
The Jets' struggles may not have been all Ryan's fault -- his team seemed to self-destruct despite his best efforts.
