As Major League Baseball handed out hundreds of games worth of suspensions on Monday,Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria said it was a necessary step in cleaning up the game.

On Twitter, Longoria offered the following two statements, just as the news of the suspensions was breaking:

Later Monday afternoon,Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Brad Ziegler, in a series of three tweets, warned other players against PED use and criticized those who got caught.

Not everyone was pleased with the way the discipline was handled.

And not everyone believes the punishment will make a major difference.

Outside of MLB, Charlotte guard Gerald Henderson was taken aback by how much money Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will lose if his 211-game suspension is upheld.
