Robinson Cano's future

The Yankees have had bad luck with lengthy contracts before, so it's no surprise that owner Hal Steinbrenner says he won't give Robinson Cano a 10-year contract this offseason. Cano has arguably been the Yankees' best player for some time now, but his reported demands -- 10 years and more than $300 million -- would tax the resources of any team, particularly when he started his decline phase late in the contract. Still, given how much the Yankees struggled this season, it might not be the best time for the team to suddenly embrace frugality.
