Buzzmaster
  (2:55 PM)

Tydreke and Craig are here!

Buzzmaster
  (2:55 PM)

Let's get started!

Craig Haubert
  (2:58 PM)

Welcome everyone -- Glad you can join me. Before I get to your questions we have a special guest again this week. Talented defensive tackle Tydreke Powell out of Hertford County High in North Carolina. He has 32 offers so far. He will be taking your questions so get them in.

Tripp (Louisiana)

I got one for Tydreke -- what's the most important thing you're looking to get out of college?

Tydreke Powell
  (2:59 PM)

A school with good academics.

Frank (Lake Hiawatha, NJ)

Tydreke -- Are you planning on staying in the South to play your college ball or are you open to playing somewhere else (colder)?

Tydreke Powell
  (2:59 PM)

It doesn't really matter for me.

Grady (Kings Mountain, NC)

Tydreke, how hard are the Heels recruiting you? Any chance you'll go there and follow in Julius Peppers' footsteps?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:00 PM)

Yes, UNC is the No. 1 school right now.

Tydreke Powell
  (3:00 PM)

I love the way he plays and carries himself.

Chris (Peru,IL)

Tydreke, who are your favorites right now?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:01 PM)

NC State, UNC, Miami, Florida and Florida State.

Jeff (New Haven)

Tydreke, everything else in the schools being equal, would you rather be one of many "guys" on a big time team, or be "the" guy on a team like UConn, newer to 1A, but with a winning coach?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:01 PM)

I'd love to be on a smaller team and be The Man.

Kevin (Manassas)

Hey Tydreke, any chance of you going to my Florida State Seminoles??

Tydreke Powell
  (3:02 PM)

Yes. There's a pretty good chance of me going down there.

Edward (Omaha,NE)

Tydreke, any chance of you attending Nebraska? Considering they lost two DT's in the Draft?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:03 PM)

Yes. I would just have to go around campus and meet their coaching staff.

Jerry, Edenton

Tydreke, what is your impression of how the Heels are building a program, right now?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:03 PM)

Yes they're definitely on the right track. They just signed some good recruits, Paulus out of New York.

matthew (Washington, DC)

Tydreke, do you know where you are going to camp this summer, if any at all?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:04 PM)

I'm going to get to Miami, Florida, UNC, and Virginia Tech.

Jim, Miami

Tydreke how important is it with the programs you are looking at -- that they have a history of sending defensive lineman to the NFL?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:05 PM)

Definitely Florida State has that tradition. It appeals to me that they send guys to NFL, it's something that I'm looking at.

Jeff (New Haven)

Tydreke, is this time as exciting as it seems it would be?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:06 PM)

Yes, it's really a headache.

Tydreke Powell
  (3:06 PM)

There's a lot of mail, text messaging, and phone calls. It's pretty much what I'd expect it to be.

Rodney, Newark

What is your off season workout like - what are some of the things that you do to help yourself get better and prepare?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:07 PM)

Work alot with my DL coach and do some conditioning workouts. As soon as the season ends I start working out. Some of the coaches have asked me on staying low and using my hands more.

Tydreke Powell
  (3:08 PM)

Studying my game as well.

Buck, Columbia, NC

What your impression of Coach Bunting at UNC?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:08 PM)

The way they make me feel when I came to UNC, they treated me like I'm one of the players there.

Pope (Cary, NC)

Tydreke, is there any chance you will buy me a beach house when you turn pro?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:09 PM)

(laughs) No comment.

Matthew (Washington, DC)

How many text messages and calls do you think you get a day?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:09 PM)

I get close to 100 text messages a day.

Tydreke Powell
  (3:10 PM)

I don't have a special plan for the text messages. I've been surprised by the amount of messages I've gotten. They start at 6 in the morning and end at 9 at night.

Alan (Atlanta Ga)

Tydreke- what do you think you have to do in order to become a great player?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:11 PM)

Just study more film and work on my technique. I need to stay focused.

ryan (detroit, MI)

Tydreke, any interest from Michigan?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:11 PM)

No interest.

Mike (Philly)

Tydreke, any chance you could go to Penn State?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:12 PM)

I've been getting letters from them, but no offer yet.

Paul, Charlotte

Tydreke who if any are some of the other top defensive tackle prospects in this class that you will be keeping an eye on to see where they go - and how they do this season?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:13 PM)

I haven't really been looking at the DTs. But I've been looking at Aleric Mullins, who's going to UNC.

Will, Raleigh

Does NC State having three defensive lineman drafted by the NFL in the first round impress you and will it influence at all your consideration of them? have they offered you?

Tydreke Powell
  (3:14 PM)

No, it won't influence me. They have given me an offer.

Buzzmaster
  (3:15 PM)

Tydreke's done, but we're going to talk with his line coach real quick.

Coach Bembry
  (3:16 PM)

Since I first laid my eyes on Tydreke. He was a phenomenon. To be so big and strong, the first time I saw a guy of his stature run a 40, I was awestruck. He's become a jewel for us.

Craig Haubert
  (3:17 PM)

How is having played at a pretty historic program such as Grambling helped Tydreke?

Coach Bembry
  (3:19 PM)

When I was there, I had the pleasure of playing with Coach Robinson. Football was a game of life, he taught. You're going to get beat down, but you have to get up and keep going. When he retired, Doug Williams came in. He brought in the business side of it - this needs to be taken seriously. He really stepped it up another level. I'm just trying to think about what they told me about this being a business and taking your academics seriously. I keep telling Tydreke that the NFL is out there but it's not a given. I've told him to let his athletics pay for his eduction and not lose sight of that.

Craig Haubert
  (3:22 PM)

Thanks to Coach Corey Bembry for talking with us about Tydreke - he played at Grambling from 1995-2000.

Craig Haubert
  (3:23 PM)

Also thanks to Tydreke for his time and we wish him the best of luck. You can read more about Tydreke in the "Get to Know" that went up this afternoon on the recruiting home page.

Craig Haubert
  (3:23 PM)

lets take some of your questions

steve (jersey)

Tell me a little about the two Jersey recruits that ND just got. A WR and a TE?

Craig Haubert
  (3:27 PM)

I assume by WR you mean Duval Kamara - and if you do you are a little ahead of the gun - he is not slated to announce till tomorrow. So whether he is a golden domer or not remains to be seen but they are in the mix.

Craig Haubert
  (3:29 PM)

As for the TE Ragone - great addition - he is healing from a torn ACL suffered in wrestling - and is expected to make a full recovery. If he does he can be a good one. He can really cause match up problems for defenses especially if he can get his speed back. He could make a good one two punch with 06 signee Konrad Reuland

Mike New York

whats the word on Duval Kamara? is he the real deal? how we he rank on your list of receivers for this year?

Craig Haubert
  (3:31 PM)

Do want to touch on Kamara's ability and what he can do on the football field since he is a hot topic

Craig Haubert
  (3:32 PM)

Mike -- this kid is a wonderful blend of size, strength, and atheltic ability. He can also create mismatch problems and is a real threat if left alone one on one. Bright future ability wise for this kid.

Kyle (Philly)

How is Maryland's first pick-up Bearthur Johnson? What is his scouting report?

Craig Haubert
  (3:34 PM)

lets stay in Hoboken NJ and talk about the Terps pick up

Craig Haubert
  (3:37 PM)

Johnson is a huge kid and I mean huge -- listed at 6'7" 350 pounds and he looks it. He can "swallow" defenders and be a guy that creates daylight. He has nice upside but still needs to develop. Can play high and needs to work on technique -- but guys like him don't grow on trees - I think it is a nice early get for Maryland

Kyle (Austin, TX)

Craig, how good is the Texas recruiting class so far and have big of a positive (if any) is it to get so many recruits so early?

Craig Haubert
  (3:43 PM)

Once again Texas is off to a hot start. Dominating in state with top players like Tray Allen (OT) Keenan Robinson (OLB) to name a few. Have to see how it holds up over the months but as usual looking like a very strong class for the Longhorns.

Craig Haubert
  (3:45 PM)

To get players early can be a positive - if you can keep them - like Texas has shown they are capable of. By getting players early you know what you have what areas you have been able to address and can proceed and concentrate on players you feel you need to round out your class. As opposed to having to juggle two or three guys near the end of the year hoping you get one or the one you really want

Craig Haubert
  (3:47 PM)

I was mixed up with my days for Kamara - I meant today -- it will be tonight at 5:40 EST at the ESPNzone in NYC. We had contact with his coach about 20 minutes ago and he told us he would announce then.

Kevin (NYC)

It's obviously very early, but what schools look poised to contend for the top class at this point?

Craig Haubert
  (3:52 PM)

It is very early - but several schools have gotten off to fast starts. Just talked about Texas, Notre Dame, and Florida are three schools that jump out to me at this point with what they have done

tom(nj)

how's the new rb commit for the trojans from arkansas? broderick green?

Craig Haubert
  (3:57 PM)

he is a good back who blends size, power, and deceptive quickness. He is a T.J. Duckett type back

Craig Haubert
  (4:01 PM)

That is all the time I have for today - Thanks for stopping by. As far Kamara -- We just spoke with his coach to get everything straight and it appears he has already made his official announcement at his High School this morning to attend Notre Dame. If he does appear athe the Zone this evening it will be to discuss his announcement and not make it. Take Care
