Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:01 PM)

'Sup my fellow fantasy freaks? Happy Monday to all.... let's get it on.

Peter (NYC, NY)

I have Frank Thomas in my situational utility spot. Is he worth stashing until he gets hot or should I drop him for either Ensburg, Huff, Blalock or Luis Gonzalez?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:02 PM)

You have to be patient with Big Hurt, especially if those are your choices. Frank is a guy who gets hot in a hurry and you'd hate to miss out on a big week because he's just sitting there. He'll be fine.

Micho (Lansing, MI)

Matthew, thanks for all of the sound advice through the years...get a new ESPN picture though...Konerko for Papelbon? I have depth at hitting and could use another RP.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:04 PM)

Thanks, Micho and yeah, I'm working on it. The current one is too creepy. I mean, there's only so much they can do with what I was given, but still... I never trade for a closer. Paps is awesome, but it's much easier to find saves - frasor, soria, wheeler being recent examples - than it is to find a bopper like Konerko. Stay put

As far as relievers go, Broxton or Turnbow?

Joe (NY, NY)

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:04 PM)

Broxton

Kevin (Manassas)

I had BJ Ryan as my closer, is Frasor a good replacement?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:06 PM)

Yeah, he'll be solid. He's not fantastic and frankly, Accardo is the guy I like the most in that pen from a skills standpoint, but he's got the job and half the time that's all you need. Depends who your other options are, but I'm surprised he was still available...

Joe (Kenosha, WI)

Should Barfield be on the wire in any league? Pick him up even if I already have Kins and Utley? Already workin on moving Kinsler

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:07 PM)

No, Joe. Barfield is 20/20 this year. Good move and good strategy. Kinsler is very good, but not THIS good. Grab the depth and then deal. Nice move

Mike (DC)

When do you think Tim Lincecum will be joining the Giants rotation?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:08 PM)

Hard to say, but there's been some rumblings of moving him to a reliever as well. He could certainly close with his kind of stuff. My guess is he is up by the All-Star break, one way or the other.

Will (Dover, NH)

If Frasor is closing in Toronto now, why was Marcum in at the end of the game? If that was a one game stint, is Marcum a good candidate for holds?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:09 PM)

Frasor had thrown 30 pitches on Sat and wasn't available, but they have come out and said, Frasor's the guy. And no, I'm not a huge Marcum fan. There's better options for holds.

Nick (sf)

getting in early so hopefully you'll answer. i need pitching help. is crede for willis a good deal?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:09 PM)

Yes. Not a big fan of Crede at all.

Steven (LA)

Hey Byrnes was dropped in our league, what do you think his final numbers look like? If he is only a 20/20 guy does that put him at 15/15 over the rest of the year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:10 PM)

Steven, that's nuts man. Who is dropping Eric Byrnes? Yes, 20/20 with potential for 25 HR. Really really like him.

tom (Bridgewater, NJ)

Hopefully, today is my day to get one answered! With Reed Johnson out for at least 2 months, would you pick up Lind in a deep 12 team roto league? How does Lind compare to Dukes?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:11 PM)

Congrats, Tom. I love Lind and wrote about him in my blog earlier today (The TRUM). Like him more than Dukes this year - feel he is more ready and has less playing time competition. Don't be surprised if Reed Johnson doesn't get his gig back.

Steve (Lombard, IL)

Let me start by saying my thoughts and prayers go out to those effected by teh shootings at VT. Quick question, I have good pitching depth in a keeper league. Drop Zach Duke for Tim Lincecum? Thanks, TMR.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:13 PM)

No doubt, Steve. I like the idea of getting Linececum in a keeper league, but if it's deep, Duke MUST have value. trrty to do a two for one trade first - Duke + someone for a an upgrade and then go grab Tim. Never ever just drop a guy without trying to deal him first...

Kevin (Manassas)

I have been sticking with Brian Roberts at 2nd, hoping he would get going, but he has not yet, and I have Kinsler and Upton on my bench. Should I go with Kinsler and keep Upton as the backup and try to trade Roberts, or is it too early to give up on Roberts?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:14 PM)

Too early to give up on Roberts, but yes, you should be trying to trade your depth. As for who, see who will give you the most. All 3 guys are very solid... take the best offer. Some folks may think Kinsler is a fluke and give you a better offer for Roberts, thinking they are "buying low."

Aaron (Little Rock, AR)

Who do you like for the rest of the year - Boof or Greinke?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:14 PM)

Zack

(CD, NY)

Is it time to give up on Teahan ? Or is he going to come through with a decent 20 HR, 100 RBI season.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:15 PM)

Patience, young patwan. Love Teahen and he will be fine. Hang tough.

Jeff (Pitt)

Quick one - better util - monroe or lind?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:15 PM)

Lind. I really really like him.

Jennifer, NY

How soon can I expect Homer Bailey and Adam Miller to be of use, I have Oliver Perez and Jeff Weaver who are killing me.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:17 PM)

Hey Jennifer! Always happy when the fairer sex shows up to show fantasy is not just a male oreinted game. I think it's going to be a while on Bailey and Miller, however. But it's a mix league, certainly you can do better than Weaver and Olly? Even a middle relief guy would be better than those two

Mike Cameron (SD, CA)

Is Delmon Young better then me?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:18 PM)

Yes, but I still like you this year, Mike. it's a contract year and you're a 20/20 guy.

Ben (Santa Barbara CA)

Pick one to start at UT for the week: Carlos Quentin, Andre Ethier, Nick Punto.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:19 PM)

Ethier - let's make sure Carlos is all the way back first

Grant, Ala

Sell high keeper question. Should i trade Arod and Kinsler for M. Cabrera and Utley?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:20 PM)

I would, but I bet you can do even better than that for A Rod and Kinsler. Love the idea of selling both guys high (again, see my blog today about selling A Rod) but you should be able to get one more throw in - a solid pitcher, a mid level 3b - for those 2...

rob albany ny

it seems a bunch of teams in my league are giving up on players not performing early this year(stupid mistake) with the likes of mark teahan, normar garciaparra, hank blalock, dan haren, bronson arroyo, and barry zito all free agents in my league, whic do you beleive would be a good waiver wire pickup if any? thanks for the time!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:21 PM)

Teahen is the guy I like a lot in that list. Never been a big Zito or Arroyo guy, I do like Haren... Nomar and Hank are fine - it all depends on who you are dropping, of course. Hard to answer questions like these in a vacuum without knowing everything, yo uknow?

Max (Miami)

Is Marcum in the mix if BJ is out for the year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:22 PM)

No, it's Frasor and would think Accardo or Brandon League (once healthy) would get next shot if Frasor doesn't get it done

James (Austin)

WIth the latest on Mark Prior, I don't know whether to give up and drop him for someone like Jon Lester, Grienke, or Cliff Lee or to sit tight?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:23 PM)

I would definitely grab Grienke. He's healthy and starting right now.

Ted (philly)

What do you make of Jimmy Rollins insane power surge? How many HRs for him this year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:23 PM)

Well, he hit 25 or so last year, so it's not as insane as it might seem. I think 25-30 is about right. He's terrific.

Stan (Denver CO)

What are your projection on the year for M. Jacobs hot start or just a fluke? Is he better then Chris Duncan or Overbay?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:24 PM)

I've always liked Jacobs and think it's legit. I like Duncan more however. Overbay is a better source of RBI, Jacobs will hit more HR - depends what you need

JSC (Boston, MA)

What can I expect out of Bartolo Colon this season?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:25 PM)

Ah, yes. he who is Big and Fat. I hate myself for saying this but I actually like him this year. 12 wins, 3.50 ERA, 150 K is very doable for him.

Brian (NYC)

I have the space to carry two of these guys...which two should I pick: Garza, Bailey, Lincecum?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:26 PM)

Garza will be up the soonest of the three, so if you need the help that will happen the soonest, I say Garza and bailey. Otherwise, Garza is the one you don't take. but all 3 are terrific

Mike (Dallas)

Matt -- Both Colon and Wang are set to come off the DL, and both are available in my league. Would you drop Buehrle and/or Escobar to pick up one or both of those guys? Thanks!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:27 PM)

Yes on Bart, no on Wang, who doesn't strike any one out, who will be hard pressed to have the same WHIP... I'd dump Buehrle for Bart

Mike, Chi-Town

Why so down on Crede?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:29 PM)

His battiing average. He potentially a killer there and his power is nothing special that you can't get elsewhere with less batting average risk. he's fine, just nothing exciting from a fantasy standpoint

Jimmy: Fort Lauderdale, FL

Hey Matt, I hope you like Stephen Jackson a little more this season, then you did last football season...but on to baseball, do you think Josh Hamilton wil get enough AB's to be productive this fantasy season?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:29 PM)

Yes, I almost have to on S Jax, eh? And yes, I do on Hamilton. Freel and Jr are both injury prone and they're finding ways to get him the line-up even with both healthy. Really like Josh

chris - the conn

who would you rather have for a backup infielder, julio lugo or bill hall?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:30 PM)

In what league are either of these guys backup infielders? That's insane. My suggestions are Hall and get a new league, my friend.

Sal (Bronx, NY)

I have a lot flexibility at RP (3 closers), do I keep Lidge or drop him? Will he get traded to TB or maybe TOR now?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:31 PM)

Drop him. He has no value in a normal size mix league right now

Pat (NH)

Any news on Harden?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:31 PM)

no, nothing frim. he says he's making his next start, so right now you just hope he's telling the truth

Kevin (Manassas)

Please rank the following....Ian Snell, Brett Myers, Ted Lilly and Adam Wainwright.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:32 PM)

Myers (he'll be fine), Wainwright, Snell, Lilly.

Eddie (NYC)

When do you expect the 2007 Player Rater to be up?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:32 PM)

Soon. Hopefully this week.

Eric (Atlanta)

Which prospect do you like better for this year; Ryan Braun, Hunter Pence or Joey Votto?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:33 PM)

You have them ranked right. Not sure we see Votto this year in Cincy, but I LOVE Braun, who is power and speed if he can just play a slight amount of defense

Kevin, Washington

Is Daniel Cabrera for real, or should i stash a guy like Jon Lester?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:34 PM)

I belive in D Cab, yes

Tim

LaRoche or Duncan?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:34 PM)

Duncan!

Victor - NYC

T.Mr.R.: They've anounced that Reed is out until July. You've written well of Adam Lind. What does he offer and type of OF would you drop for him? Thanks for years of guidance!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:35 PM)

Thanks, Victor. He offers power and average and is a #3 OF type. I'd rather have him than, say, pat Burrell.

chris - the conn

they were both dropped by idiots, my friend.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:35 PM)

Fair enough, Chris. Still say hall.

jenny (LA)

I have Roger Clemens right now. Should I hang on to him? When do you think he will be back? Or do you recommend I should drop him and pick up Greinke or Micah Owings?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:36 PM)

hey Jenny: Hold tight. I like Grienke a lot but he doesn't have the upside of Rocket. Is there someone else you can dump for Zach? By the way, when Unti comes back, there's a chance owings goes to the minors or bullpen and they keep Edgar in the rotation.

steve (ny)

kyle lohse - legit or just 2 fluky starts?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:37 PM)

Two fluky starts. I don't believe

Eric (Boston)

Would you drop E. Dukes for A. Lind in an 8x8 H2H keeper league?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:37 PM)

Yes, I would. But it's close. Can you trade Dukes?

Bud Atl

Your thoughts on putting Francis in the lineup today?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:38 PM)

I wouldn't

Justin (Queens, NY)`

What is wrong Ryan Shealy? He has been dropped in a 16 team FP league. Good pick up?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:39 PM)

yes, I think so. Patience with Ryan Shealy guys. It's early, it's cold.. he's proven he can hit before. In a 16 team league, he absolutely has value

Taylor (Charlottesville, VA)

Why the love for Duncan? Last year's numbers enough to show a real breakthrough from mediocre minors?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:40 PM)

Not only last year's numbers, but what he did them in. 22 HR in only 280 AB? That's 40 HR over a season and hitting in front of Albert helps a lot.

Jon Lester

Do you reccomend adding me in fantasy leagues, i'll be back this month.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:40 PM)

Yes, I like you. I expect you to start slow, but have a big second half.

Eric(Indy)

Brett Myers has been very dissapointing on my team so far, and even though it is early, do you think he will put up the #'s that he has the past 2 season? What is his trade value?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:41 PM)

Yes, I am not worried about Myers and his trade value is low right now. hang tight

K.C, (NYC)

Would you dump Crede and pick up Rolen?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:41 PM)

yes

Dave (C-Town)

who will get more playing time adam lind or ryan theriot?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:41 PM)

Lind

Fletch, Los Angeles

My league has a limit of 3 FA moves a year - my 3b are Hank Blalock and Alex Gordon - should i pick up kinori Iwamura? We'll he end up with better year end numbers than what i got? Hot Start or the Real deal dilema!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:42 PM)

No, with only 3 moves, that's not enough of an upgrade to waste one

Mike, Amherst

What will happen with Scott Hairston once Carlos Quentin comes back off the DL?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:42 PM)

Bench

Ty (NC)

what side of this trade would you like to be on? Howard, Upton and Lidge for Soriano and Peavy. Thanks!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:43 PM)

Rather have Soriano and Peavy. Lidge is usless in a mix league and Upton's defense is brutal...

Tim (DC)

Is Otsuka worth a spot in a deep points league (holds are worth 1/2 as much as saves)?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:44 PM)

Very much so. And following up on last post - Upton's defense may cost him playing time

The Far Less Talented Mr. Roto Wannabee

My reliever situation is desperate. The waiver wire is bare. I have solid starting pitching, anchored by Lackey, Zambrano, Bedard, and Lilly. I offered Zambrano for K-Rod in a trade. Did I make a move towards developing greater Roto-Talent??? Thank you sir!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:45 PM)

Ok, the title made me laugh. Well, if Waiver Wire is bare, then you gotta do it , but I don't believe in trading for closers. Rather see you sell high on Lilly, who will have amuch tougher time through the league the second go round

Brian (NYC)

Church or Lind as a 3rd/4th outfielder?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:45 PM)

Church, but it's very close

Sid (Brooklyn, NY)

Is this pending trade in my league veto-worthy? Dan Haren and Felipe Lopez for Aaron Hill.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:46 PM)

I am not a believer in vetoing trades. Owners should be alllowed to make whatever moves they want, even if they're reall really stupid like this one.

Mike ( New City, NY)

I am having a hard time believe someone who couldn't start for the majors (Lind) is worth more than a lot of starters like jacque jones or burrell??

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:47 PM)

it's not that he couldn't, they just didn't want to rush him. And now their hand was forced. Fantasy is all about upside and we KNOW what guyts like Burrell and Jones bring. No upside there. Tons of it with Lind. Burrell is also a BA risk sometimes...

Tank(NY)

Did I give up on Scott Olsen too quick? Greinke was still avail so picked him up.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:48 PM)

Yes, I still believe in him. But hard to argue with Zack. I'm fine with the move

Rick (Philly)

What the heck is TRUM?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:49 PM)

it's my daily fantasy blog. Stands for Thoughts, Ramblings, Useless information and Musings

Jenny (LA)

Hey Matt, this is a follow up to my earlier question regarding Greinke: I have Jason Jennings, Dan Wheler, John Maine, and Erik Bedard that I could possible drop for Greinke. Who do you recommend that I should drop in order to pick Greinke? Thanks for the advice!!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:49 PM)

Jennings

Alex Gordon -KC

My friend George in Wimberley TX keeps knocking on my Free Agent door, but never opens it, and now you are hyping Adam Lind as you did me earlier in the year. Is there any reason why I should not just DRAG him in and beat him until he drops Pat Burrell? Or should he go have some of Lind's cookies...

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:50 PM)

I like either guy... depends who you have at 3b

Matt (Memphis)

Should I start Zito tonight in Coors??

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:50 PM)

NOOOOOO

Amy (Boston)

Matt, I don't care what the other gals say, you are a HOTTIE! Here's a quickie for you... Drop Connor Jackson for Adam LaRoche in my mixed league?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:52 PM)

hey Amy: I don;t care what the other posters say. I'm convinvced you're really a girl. No, stay with Conor

Amy (San Diego, CA)

Who do you think will get more playing time/will be better over the course of the year: Elijah Dukes, or Josh Hamilton?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:52 PM)

Hamilton

Mike, Amherst

Please answer questions we all can use. I hate these "who should I drop" ones because they only apply to one person. What are the timetables for these three: Jon Lester, Hong-Chih Kuo, and Kerry Wood? Also, whats the chance Wood gets the closer's role from Dempster when he returns?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:53 PM)

All within the next 6 weeks. And there's a chance - it's a contract year for Wood, but so far Demspter has been solid. And they ahve a lot of other options there, like Wuertz, Howry.... worht a flyer, but nothing for sure

Chris B Young (AZ)

Is it time to drop me or will I turn it around. I am better than Lind, right????

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:53 PM)

Yes, you are. Stay patient with yourself.

Sean (Seattle)

Haren for Atkins... 10 team league. Fair trade?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:53 PM)

Yes, if you are getting Atkins.

Speed Round Guy(Philly)

Start Snell at St. louis tonight????

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:54 PM)

Yes

Caleb (MS)

Is El Duque going to stay consistent like he was in his first two starts, or will the rest of the season be like it was on Saturday?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:55 PM)

El Duque will be fine. Hang tough

Pamela (Laguna Beach)

I just traded Albert Pujols for Peavey and Capuano - Did I get enough? Your so sexy!!!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:55 PM)

This is embarrassing

Jon (Nashville)

From here on out, Matt Holliday, or Manny Ramirez?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:55 PM)

Ooh, good one. I'll say Manny, but it's very very close. People don';t realize how good Holliday is

Brian (NYC)

Thoughts on Kip Wells?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:56 PM)

I like him. It's been a long time since he got through a whol season but he's got a good team and bullpen behiond him. Not a fluke.

Sean (Millburn, NJ)

Who do you see having the most value in Cards rotation (besides Carpenter) and please rank (Reyes, Wainwright, Wells)

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:57 PM)

Wainwright, Reyes, Wells, Looper

Ralph (AZ)

Apparently, all I need to do is tell you you're sexy. OK SEXY, please rank the following players for me - Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Lind, Curtis Granderson and Chris Duncan.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:57 PM)

Raplh, that's hot. Duncan, Granderson, Lind, Encarnacion.

James (Austin)

You like Wells, but who gets the nod, Wells or Looper?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:57 PM)

Wells

Big Gay Andre

You are sooooooooo hot. The new ESPN pic should be in leather chaps.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:58 PM)

LOL

mike, ct

hey, is jenks safe in the closer role? Is there anyone I should be stashing on my bench in case?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:58 PM)

For now. A guy I absolutely love is David Aarsma in that pen. If jenks loses the gig, I'm not convinced that it's definitelt MacDougal. Aardsma can help even if he doesn't get the job at some point

Powers (AZ)

So Reed Johnson is out til July. Is Adam Lind worth dropping Mike Cameron or Griffey for? Keeper league here.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:59 PM)

Keeper league? Yeah, I'd drop Griff

JB (NYC)

Doug Davis is available in my league and is off to a good start. Worth dropping K. Wells or D. Cabrera

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:59 PM)

I wouldn't. And it's not that good a start

Tom (Dayton)

Zimmerman or Gordon. Both have bad lineups.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:59 PM)

Zimmerman. Much more proven

Charles (UK)

Greinke, Jennnings, and Olsen who do i drop?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:01 PM)

Cheers, Chalres. I drop Jennings. I still believe in Olsen./ Ok guys, that's it for today. Thanks for stopping by! Peace. Seacrest out!
