Fantasy Football w/Scott Engel

Fletch F. Fletch (Parts Unknown):

BIG QUESTION HERE! "The other" Adrian Peterson is available on the wire. I don't plan on starting him, but to play keepaway, should I drop LenDale or Selvin for him? Whoever starts for the Broncos gets the horrible Raiders D, so I'm worried that if I drop Selvin, and he starts, my opponent could grab him and destroy me. Quite a conundrum, huh?

Scott Engel
  (2:59 PM)

Don't worry about your opponnets - do what is best for your team. It seems like your league is small enough to always have decent RBs available, so I would drop White and pick up Peterson

Tom (San Francisco, CA)

More value going forward please: Owen Daniels or Vernon Davis? Thanks in advance!

Scott Engel
  (3:00 PM)

I would go with Davis - he is more of a touchdown at

Jess (Villanova)

Is chatman going to play tonight? In all seriousness is Ricky Williams worth a spot on my bench?

Scott Engel
  (3:01 PM)

He is likely going to come down to agame-time decision - Williams is definitely worth adding even if he doesn't do much tonight

James, Ca

Scott, Can Kolby smith put up decent numbers the rest of the year, or is he a one week wonder?

Scott Engel
  (3:02 PM)

I think decent, but not great numbers - he has good vsiison, quick feet and can run well near the goal line

Rich (Orlando)

Hey Scott! I have been playing defense-by-committee the last few weeks with the Giants and Packers. Should I drop one of those Ds to pick up Adrian Peterson (Chi) (and if so, which D)? My other RBs are LT, Barber, Jacobs and Selvin. We start 2. Thanks!

Scott Engel
  (3:04 PM)

I would be comfortablke going with GB most of the rest of the way, but nota gainst Dallas - I think you need to keep NYG one more week and cuta different player from another position to get Peterson

Blick (DC)

What is Chris Brown's worth going forward? Obviously White still seems to be the top RB for Tampa, but Brown got an equal number of touches yesterday.

Scott Engel
  (3:06 PM)

Not much - they don;t like to give him too many touches because Brown is not durable, and they have more invested in White

Bailey (Atlanta)

Scott, I'm now 7-5 and in the playoff hunt after starting 0-4 vs some tough match-ups. I need to know the status of Bulger and J. Garcia (my opponent has him) for next week. If Bulger plays, should I start Schaub anyway?

Scott Engel
  (3:07 PM)

Too early to tell - Garcia is day to day and they are unsure about Bulger - usually hard to get solid answers on a lot of injuries the next day - keep Schaub ready

Caleb (Dallas)

FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF GAME!!! Down by 7 with Hines Ward going tonight.. will I get the win?

Scott Engel
  (3:09 PM)

I would be surprised to see you not win, especially with Holmes out and Ward likely getting targeted more

Kevin, Sacramento

Scott, should I keep Eli on my roster or replace him with Campbell to pair with Warner. I'm tired of single digit fantasy performances from Eli. While Warner can get hurt at any minute so i'm not really comfortable starting him either.

Scott Engel
  (3:10 PM)

I am finished with Eli and say get rid of him - Campbell is doing more despite limited weaponry

Erik (Pittsburgh)

My running back situ is a mess this year with Larry Johnson and Lamont Jordan being out. Should I pick up Peterson (Bears) or Kolby Smith.

Scott Engel
  (3:11 PM)

I would cut Jordan and another player and get both - if its just one you can get because of waiver order I like Smith more - young, quick and a very impressive outing yesterday

Dan (Detroit)

What do you expect from the Denver RB situation the next few weeks. RB by committee?

Scott Engel
  (3:13 PM)

Whoever is healthy gets the touches - Andre Hall has a sprained ankle - another week of rest could help Henry and Young - I think it's mostly one guy depending on who is healthy

Mark (State College, PA)

Do you think McNabb plays next week? I've got McNabb and Garcia as my second and third QBs in a two QB league and will need one.

Scott Engel
  (3:14 PM)

Depends on if they practice later this week - too early to tell on both but Garcia has a better shot I believe right now - be patient - we'll find out soon

Bailey (Atlanta)

With reports that AP will be back this week, do I need to sit Taylor for K. Smith?

Scott Engel
  (3:15 PM)

I probbaly would considering Smith will likely get more touches than Taylor

Laura (Bethesda)

Is it time to cut LJ? Do you think he'll be back?

Scott Engel
  (3:16 PM)

They are being very, very quiet on his sttaus so I cannot recommend cutting him - we do not know anything for sure

Steve (NY)

Do you think Alexander comes back? Should I ditch Morris for Petersen?

Scott Engel
  (3:17 PM)

Depends on if he is able to practice - could be out another week, amybe - I would keep Morris and see if you can cuta backup from another position to get Peterson

Tom (SoCal)

Scott, Kicker question,(Yeah I know - Ugggggh) Will Jeff Reed score me 9 pts tonight to help me stay undefeated?

Scott Engel
  (3:18 PM)

I think you don't have much to worry about - relax and enjoy the game

David (Minneapolis, MN)

If the Vikings rush back Peterson and he gets hurt I'll jump out of a window! Ok, not really, but why rush him when Chester runs so well?!

Scott Engel
  (3:20 PM)

I'm nota doctor, but the fact they held him out yesterday makes me believe they are NOT rushing him back, and he will still share carries with Taylor to ensure he does not get overworked

JR - Washington D.C.

I'm sad that it has come to this, but, Plax or Branch the rest of the way?

Scott Engel
  (3:22 PM)

I would go with Branch - he i healthy again and very comfortable in the Seattle offense

Wolfe (NoCa)

Scott, who should I go with the rest of the way - Branch or C. Henry? Starting Ward in the other WR slot.

Scott Engel
  (3:23 PM)

I prefer Branch because you cannot cosnsistenly depend on a third WR

Trent (San Fran)

Trade Deadline Tuesday. I have been offered Brady and Selvin for McGahee and Palmer. Is this a no brainer?

Scott Engel
  (3:24 PM)

If you can effecively replace McGahee in your lineup with someone other than Young, I would jump at the chance to get Brady

Robert (Eugene, Or)

Another Alexander/Morris owner wondering about Peterson. Unfortunately to pick up Peterson, I'd have to drop a RB. In addition to the seahawks duo I have Chatman, Lynch, and Rudi Johnson. My playoffs start next week. How likely is it either Lynch or Chatman will be ready to go. I started Morris and Johnson this week, but I'd rather not start Rudi against Pittsburgh. Should I cut Alexander and pick up Peterson? Thanks for you help.

Scott Engel
  (3:26 PM)

Too early to tell on Lynch or Chatman for next week, especially when we are not even sure on Chatman for tonight. I would not start Rudi next week either but his sked getes better after that. I would not trust Alexander if he returns and you need to ensure survival for next week, so cut Alexander to get Peterson

Dan (Hammond, IN)

Which of these two inconsistent/injury prone backs do you trust going forward, Rudi Johnson or Laurence Maroney?

Scott Engel
  (3:28 PM)

I trsut Rudi - he is more proven and Maroney has not proved he can stack up quality yardage numbers yet

Jason (St. Louis)

A week ago it was a novelty to own both Adrian Petersons, but now it looks like I'll need to choose between the two this Sunday. The Minnesota verison is a must-start if healthy, but should I take a wait and see approach as he is eased back into action and start "The Other AP" instead?

Scott Engel
  (3:30 PM)

I would wait to see reports of how he Minnesota Peterson looks in practices this week - I think with more time, you will come to the best decisiona nd you really don't have to stress about it today

Joel ( Roscommon MI)

Scott, do you see Anthony Gonzalez WR3 worthy in a 12 team league the rest of the way ?

Scott Engel
  (3:32 PM)

I would only make decisions on him on a week to week basis - he is only useful until harrison returns and we don't know for sure when that is yet

Taylor (MI)

What would it take for you to trade away Tom Brady?

Scott Engel
  (3:33 PM)

I wouldn't trade him - why mess with success?

Rich (Orlando)

Would you drop Chris Henry or Santonio Holmes for Adrian Peterson (Chi)? thanks!

Scott Engel
  (3:34 PM)

That all depends on your needs - if you have good WR depth I would drop Henry

Eric (Madison)

Who should I keep between Garrard and Schaub to back up Brees the rest of the way?

Scott Engel
  (3:35 PM)

I would keep Garrard - he is very steady and obviously keeps the mistakes to a bare minimum

Taylor (MI)

Well if he is going to sit the last 2 games, wouldnt you want to trade him, (Brady) while he is still at his peak? I think that thats a good business move.

Scott Engel
  (3:37 PM)

There ar eno guarantees that will happen, and if it doesn't, you have a great shota t winning the league - all you need is a solid backup, not to trade Brady

Jim (Boston)

So I have Ladanian, Adrian Peterson (MIN), Adrian Peterson (CHI), Marshawn Lynch and Ryan Grant. I can only start 2 and would love some input so I don't have 50 points sitting on my bench.

Scott Engel
  (3:39 PM)

Tomlinson is obviously a must-start - Lynch is still iffy and i don't like Granta gainst Dallas - so I would wait to see how Minnesota's Peterson looks in practice or use the other Peterson

Andy (CT)

Is the other AP a top 20 RB going forward since he is also active in the passing game?

Scott Engel
  (3:40 PM)

If Benson is indeed out for the year he is top 20 because he can catch passes and be a goal-line force

J (MI)

Hey Scott, Whats up with MJD only getting 10 carries? I thought that he was the feature of the rbbc, not Fred Taylor. What should I expect from them in the next few weeks? Thanks.

Scott Engel
  (3:41 PM)

Neither guy will dominate the load and Del Rio may often go with the hot hand - with MJD< you take the limited touches realizing he usually makes the most of them

Ken (Bklyn NY)

Can there be a single chat in which some Brady owner doesn't act like the sky is going to fall? He's having a historic season, Bellicheck wants to crush his enemies into powder, HE'S NOT GOING TO SIT HIM!!!! Now be happy you drafted well and stop whining!

Scott Engel
  (3:43 PM)

I have to agree with you although I would word it differently. Why create worries when there aren't any? Just keep a backup ready just in case

Scott, can you tell me why Andre Johnson's production was so low yesterday? I didn't get to see the game. Thanks.

Scott Engel
  (3:44 PM)

John Clayton's column on the Browns really pinpoints it well - they had the corners jam him at the line with safety help behind them - I think the Texans can adjust and get him loose going forward

Matt (Ca)

Should I start Engram over Galloway next week (due to Garcia's injury) and should Feely be picked up?

Scott Engel
  (3:45 PM)

I would wait to see if Garcia practices first, and I would still not trust Feeley to repeat that performance

Spyder Monkey (CA)

How serious is S.Holmes injury?

Scott Engel
  (3:46 PM)

He si not playing tonight - beyond that, it is too early to tell yet for Week 13

Jon (Boston, MA)

Why do you say to *not* trade Brady? I play in a few leagues where the Brady owner isn't even close to first place. What good is 40 pts at QB when your RB/WRs all stink? I wouldn't think twice about trading Brady for a top 10 RB and top 10 WR, as long as I had an above-average QB to replace Brady.

Scott Engel
  (3:49 PM)

He can carry my team pratically by itself in many weeks - and if the Brady owner is not close to first by now obviously he has been eliminated from playoff contention in most cases - it's not absolute - if I can get Romo and Westbrook back I might do it, but there's not that many types of those offers out there - if I am contender why would I want to deal the best player in fantasy? If I am not a contender, it's too late

Kevin (whoville)

Is Lee Evans basically worthless with Edwards at QB? Do you like Evans or Calvin Johnson the rest of the way??

Scott Engel
  (3:51 PM)

I don't consider him much of a starter with Edwards at the helm and i like Johnson better right now

JKlipp (Milwaukee, WI)

Randy Moss un-sittable with Colston and Wayne? Do I just play matchups between Wayne and Colston? If so, who u got this week?

Scott Engel
  (3:52 PM)

I would never sit Moss and usually go with Wayne

Mark (STL)

Drop Hackett and pick up Calvin Johnson or Deion Branch?

Scott Engel
  (3:53 PM)

I would get Branch - if he is still a free agent you can take the risk of dropping Hackett in such a league

Frodo (The Shire)

I've got Portis and Maroney for RB's, and I have the most money remaining in free agency dollars. Should I break the bank for Chicago AP?

Scott Engel
  (3:54 PM)

Go for it - you really can't depend on Maroney

Simon, SC

Scott, do you think it is "ethical" to trade with players in the league when they are out of play-off contention, even if the trades are obviously fair? Thanks.

Scott Engel
  (3:55 PM)

The trade deadline has passed in many leagues, getting ri dof such dilemmas. As long as the trades are fair, though, keep 'em going

Jason (Boston)

Is Santana Moss at this point droppable? I'm looking at picking up some depth, and the Hilliard owner just dropped him.

Scott Engel
  (3:57 PM)

I would drop Moss, but not to get Hilliard - I would go with Justin Gage or Reggie Williams over him

Pink T(boston)

Maroney has scored 2 weeks in a row and they will run more in the cold weather. Do you think this is the case?

Scott Engel
  (3:58 PM)

No, I think that is wishful and creative thinking if you own Maroney - he has done nothing to illustrate they can depend on him

Ben (Charlotte)

My recievers came up HUGE this week, Fitz, Branch and Welker all with big days. Do you consider all three every week starters? Any real need to through Isaac Bruce or Megatron in their?

Scott Engel
  (3:59 PM)

I think you are fine starting those three the rest of the way

Garrett (Fargo)

advice for Steve Smith owners?

Scott Engel
  (4:00 PM)

Don't consider him a must-start, but don't bench him

Brian (CA)

Better Pickup Gage or Williams?

Scott Engel
  (4:01 PM)

I like Williams, who has done more in the red zone this year. Thanks a lot everyone!
