Fantasy Football w/AJ Mass

AJ Mass
  (3:02 PM)

Welcome gang. It's me, AJ, the chat host who lived... ready to put on my sorting hat and figure all your fantasy football question out. Let's begin, shall we?

Derek, Houston

With all the injuries to the Arizona W.R. is Warner worth starting

AJ Mass
  (3:03 PM)

I think Warner's a good start still. I'm not saying I'm rushing out and signing Sean Morey, but I think Warner can still crank out 250 yards and a score or two.

Dylan (Detroit)

Is there any way you start Clemens over Kitna this week?

AJ Mass
  (3:05 PM)

Every way, I think. Detroit ran the ball six times last week. Six! Every play is a pass and any defense can stop that. Add the loss of Williams in, and Dallas being almost sure to grab a lead... I'll take my chances with Kellen vs. Cleveland.

Justin (Queens, NY)

Please pick 2 for this week from: J.Walker, L.Evans, J.Gage, A.Gonzalez, J.Jones or V.Davis

AJ Mass
  (3:06 PM)

Gage has been a big surprise, I'd keep that ball rolling and then throw in Lee Evans for good measure.

Patrick (LA, CA)

Hey AJ always love to have your opinion, and in the first round of the playoffs it matters more than do you see schaub's injury affecting the value of owen daniels, when he was out before mr sage caused owen to slump a little, so i'm thinking of replacing him in my lineup with pope or clark (chi), good idea?

AJ Mass
  (3:07 PM)

I think with the AZ injuries, Pope has more value but the real shock has been how involved Clark in Chicago has been. I think either is a better bet this week than Mr. Daniels. I would go Clark.

Nick, MPLS

AJ, Colston or Alexander at the flex spot?

AJ Mass
  (3:09 PM)

I go Colston. Not at all impressed with the job Shaun's done since he's been back.

What's the story with Portis? He left the last game with a limp and there has been zero info on his status for tomorrow.

AJ Mass
  (3:10 PM)

Obviously with a Thursday game and a tumultuous Monday, the Skins camp has been a bit distracted. I think Portis will go, but emotionally, he might well be spent.

Ed, NY

AJ, Ben Watson is killing me. Is it time to pick up Vernon Davis to start over him.

AJ Mass
  (3:11 PM)

Yeah, because Vernon's been getting a lot of love from Dilfer? SF just doesn't move the ball at all... I'd rather take my 1 out of 10 chance for a TD with Watson.

Jack (Richmond Hill, NY)

Hey AJ, would you risk playing a hobbled Santonio or less attractive but healhty A.Gonzalez? Thanks!

AJ Mass
  (3:13 PM)

Reports are slowly trickling in that Holmes looks good enough to play, but I'm not buying it yet... and if there's snow in NE, forget about it. You go Gonzalez and hope he holds on to the ball.

Mike (Albany, NY)

Hi AJ, who to play as a WR3 this week, Furrey or Chris Henry? Thanks!

AJ Mass
  (3:15 PM)

Furrey certainly has moved up the ladder a bit. He's not as talented as Henry, or as reliable, but he no longer has to share with Roy, whereas Chris is a sure #3 option. We like Mike, but given the matchups I still go Henry.

Andy (Indianapolis, IN)

Who do I start Tom Brady vs Steelers or B Favre vs the Raiders?

AJ Mass
  (3:17 PM)

Eric Karabell wrote a nice article in his blog this week, and although I didn't agree with every point, the main one was spot on: you don't change your tactics in the playoffs. You start Brady because you've got the Fantasy MVP and Favre is great, but who knows about his hand.

Gerard (New York)

Droughns, AP Chicago, Portis? (pick two)? Pitt or Buffalo D?

AJ Mass
  (3:19 PM)

I hate the idea of locking myself into one game because bad weather in Washington tomorrow would cripple me, but I can;t bring myself to start Droughns on Thursday without knowing more about Jacobs. I go AP and Portis. And I go Buffalo without question... Beck might turn it over 6 times.

Assuming Fred Jackson starts, is he a better option than Chester Taylor at the flex? Or should I bench both and put in Bryant Johnson?

AJ Mass
  (3:20 PM)

I like Chester. AP is not going to be overworked and Taylor will approach 100 and a score again.

Dan - San Jose

Please pick two for this weekend...Grossman, Garcia, Rivers Dilfer, Rosenfels. Yikes.

AJ Mass
  (3:21 PM)

Yikes. Indeed. Grossman and Rivers.

Phil (Det)

AJ - thanks for your insightful ' who do you like this week (pick 2): S. Moss, S. McDonald, B. Stokley? Thanks!

AJ Mass
  (3:22 PM)

I'd ditch Moss for the week.

Adam (DC)

My first round playoff opponent starts both moss and welker whereas I have brady. Does this give me a distinct advantage as I can match both his receivers, point to point? Also, with l. White's struggles,is Chris Brown a good flex option?

AJ Mass
  (3:24 PM)

You should always start your best team and not worry about who your opponent starts. Depending on the scoring system, the edge could go either way... Chris Brown seems to be playing better, but I've been burned too many times by him to start him at flex (of course, not knowing what other options you have... you might see it differently)

Mark (New Haven)

How good is Adrian Peterson (MN) gonna be next year? I mean, he was phenomenal this year, but how do we know that 1) he'll stay healthy and 2) he'll be as dominant the second time around. What if Steve Hutchinson gets hurt? What about Peterson tells us that he'll be an elite back for years to come. I'm looking for support on this, I own him in a keeper league...I just wanna know what people think about him for next year and beyond...

AJ Mass
  (3:26 PM)

Justice Potter put it best when he said "I know it when I see it" Relax Mark. What if a meteor hits Minnesota tomorrow? Should I bench AP then? Breathe!

mike (Madison, WI)

How underrated is Westbrook? The guy just keeps putting up numbers.

AJ Mass
  (3:27 PM)

He's only underrated if you don't realize that if the Eagles were 8-4 right now, he'd be in the running for MVP.

Matt (NJ)

Should I play Furrey over a banged up Plax in a PPR league?

AJ Mass
  (3:28 PM)

Absolutely. Furrey catches his 5 a game. Plaxico is not a guarantee anymore with that ankle.

Joe Gibbs Wash

Timeout Timeout, this is a great chat

AJ Mass
  (3:29 PM)

It is indeed a sad thing to see someone whose days have passed him by.

Nervous Bulger Owner

AJ make me feel better about starting Bulger for my playoffs this week? Play it safer with Clemens instead?

AJ Mass
  (3:30 PM)

Bulger wasn't sure he was going to pass the neuro exam this week. He did, but I am not going to rest my playoff hopes on a guy who was fuzzy on if he was fuzzy.

Joe (NYC)

Roy Williams fill-in (ugh!): Isaac Bruce or Justin Gage? thanks!

AJ Mass
  (3:31 PM)

The way VY and Justin have been hooking up of late, I go Gage.

Monte (Easton, PA)

Angry Frank Gore or FatDale White this week?

AJ Mass
  (3:31 PM)

Angry gets you in trouble. Fat moves people out of the way.

Aaron (Olympia)

I'll try to only post this every five minutes or so...BUT IT'S IMPORTANT!!! Do I really sit FWP against NE this week for Kolby Smith against DEN, or Freddy Jackson against MIA? Other RB is SJax. THANKS!!!

AJ Mass
  (3:32 PM)

Did you not see McGahee go nuts against NE defense? We don't sit Parker.

Brian (Orlando)

What do yuo think of Chris Redman? Lost Shaub and only other options are T. Jackson and Trent Edwards

AJ Mass
  (3:34 PM)

Normally I'd scoff at the idea, but Chris actually has several things going for him... 1) MNF at home -always good for a QB. 2) Familiar with Petrino's system from college. I'd not be afraid to gamble with him against the Saints. But if you're scared to, Edwards should also have a nice day.

John (New York)

I am in a tough spot at QB for the playoffs -- would you recommend Garrard or Favre this week?

AJ Mass
  (3:36 PM)

If Favre hadn't suffered that injury, I'd go with him. But even though I know he starts and is likely fine, if I have Garrard, who has played well of late, I play it safe.

Would you start Furrey over Coles, Reggie Williams or Wes Welker this week?

AJ Mass
  (3:37 PM)

All the Furrey love! Reminds me of an episode of CSI. Anywho... I go with Welker 1, Williams 2, Furrey 3

dan NY

PLAYING MY SISTER IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!! Gore, Fred Jackson, Kolby Smith, Samkon Gado, Selvin Young....I need 2, what do you think? ...and two more: Gage, Colston, Marshall? thanks!

AJ Mass
  (3:38 PM)

Kolby Smith and Jackson if Lynch is declared out, Selvin Young otherwise. Sit Marshall.

Rick (Irvine, CA)

Don't sit Parker, have you seen Parker lately, I would MUCH rather start Kolby Smith against Den than Parker.

AJ Mass
  (3:41 PM)

I guess what I was trying to say is that too many people look at the matchups and see "New England" - well, they're good, I guess I bench my guys. It's a factor, but not the only one. And although Denver is L-A-M-E vs. the run... with the QB mess in KC, I'm steering clear.

Chaz (Scranton, PA)

Is the matchup with Green Bay enough to bench Fargas for either Chicago AP or T. Jones? Thanks.

AJ Mass
  (3:43 PM)

I'd stick with Fargas.

Scott (Los Angeles)

League starts 2 quarterbacks, I have Kitna and Warner. Trent Edwards is available... is he a better start than either?

AJ Mass
  (3:44 PM)

Personally, I think Edwards is a good play over Kitna, who Dallas knows is going to throw 55 times to now, only 3 receivers.

Samer (Austin, TX)

PLAYOFFS!!! PLAYOFFS!! I'm torn between Warner, Donovan, and Eli. I play the wrong person EVERY time. Help. Thanks.

AJ Mass
  (3:45 PM)

It's a tough call to make. I go McNabb and hope he simply throws screens to Westbrook all game.

AJ Mass
  (3:45 PM)

Let's go lightning round folks!!!

Jason (Providence)

If Lynch plays, do you think Jackson will get a decent amount of carries?

AJ Mass
  (3:46 PM)

Jackson should get 10 or so if Lynch is back.

Vinny (nyc)

AJ - With Boldin out and S.Holmes questionable, who do you roll the dice with? S.Moss, Berrian or N.Washington?

AJ Mass
  (3:46 PM)

Bernard Berrian.

Shane (Seattle, Wash)

Are you ignoring me because you are unsure? Is Holmes an automatic start over Bruce or Crayton this week if he starts?

AJ Mass
  (3:48 PM)

Not ignoring you. Just a lot of Q's, amigo. Answer me this... if a guy is a game-time decision, doesn't that usually means there's a huge risk that he may reinjure whatever is injured even if he does play. It's that "if" that gives me pause, so NO, he's not automatic.

Paul (Pittsburgh)

Edge or Fargas?

AJ Mass
  (3:48 PM)

Dave (MN)

Pick 2 please?!? Addai, Fast Willie, Fargas, R.Grant. I think I am having match up problems!

AJ Mass
  (3:49 PM)

Addai and Fargas

Jon (Kansas City, KS)

Brandon Jacobs (if playing), FWP, or Chester Taylor this week?

AJ Mass
  (3:49 PM)

Kevin (Manassas)

Brees or Big Ben this week?

AJ Mass
  (3:49 PM)

Big Ben

So I shouldn't worry about Big Ben vs NE? Got the usual suspects as FA QBs + Warner and Garcia!

AJ Mass
  (3:51 PM)

Again, did we not just see Kyle Boller... KYLE BOLLER... almost pull off an upset.

Tim (Rochester, NY)

K.Curtis or S.Rice?

AJ Mass
  (3:51 PM)

Raul (San Diego)

Lightning round? You type like a tortise! LOL! Sit one Rudi, MJB or B. Jacobs.

AJ Mass
  (3:52 PM)

Had a computer freeze up... LOL, Raul. I sit Jacobs.

Jason (OH)

Giants D or Bills D?

AJ Mass
  (3:52 PM)

Bills, don't see that 12 sacker coming again.

tony from jersey

ppr league, pick 3- bush, mjd, portis, grant, fargas, k smith

AJ Mass
  (3:53 PM)

Bush, Fargas, Portis

Chris (Hershey, PA)

Maurice Morris, Kevin Jones or Jerious Norwood?

AJ Mass
  (3:53 PM)

Marc (Toronto, Canada)

Lendale, T. Jones, Chatman, Dayne. Pick one.

AJ Mass
  (3:54 PM)

Jared (NY)

Henry, Young or Jackson??

AJ Mass
  (3:54 PM)

Travis "free at last" Henry

Paul (Pittsburgh)

2 RBs to pick: Fargas, Kolby Smith, Gore, Edge, or Lynch (if he can play)?

AJ Mass
  (3:54 PM)

Fargas and Kolby

Mark (Huntington)

VY or McNabb???????

AJ Mass
  (3:55 PM)

VY is at the same time safer (McNabb injury concerns) and not safer (ready to self-destruct at drop of a hat). I'll go Young.

Jason (NY)

B. Johnson, A. Toomer or S. Rice?

AJ Mass
  (3:56 PM)

I'd take a chance on Bryant.

Gabriel (CA)

Welker or Plaxico?

AJ Mass
  (3:56 PM)

Brian (OH)

Pick 2: D. Bowe, J. Gage, B. Stokely, San. Moss?

AJ Mass
  (3:57 PM)

Gage and Stokely

FWP or Graham this week?? Which one do i bench (ppr league): Holt, Housh, Edwards, Andre Johnson?

AJ Mass
  (3:57 PM)

Graham and bench Andre

jj (nyc)

big dilemma... facing the number 1 seed. who to start, galloway or roddy white? thanks

AJ Mass
  (3:58 PM)

If you were facing the #3 seed, I'd say White, but since you're facing the #1 seed.... hmmmm.

AJ Mass
  (3:59 PM)

And yes, that was sarcasm... you simply start your best lineup and try to win... it matters not a whit you are playing.

John VA

Greg Olsen has killed me the past couple of weeks. Who should I pick up to replace him this week and going forward: Daniels, Clark(Chi), Pope, McMichael, SCheffler or King

AJ Mass
  (4:00 PM)

All TE's are somewhat of a dice roll when it comes to scoring. You want guys who have a steady diet of targets with a familiar QB... Clark and Scheffler fit that bill.

Ian (Berkeley, CA)

"it matters not a whit you are playing." grammatical errors make mockery backfire...

AJ Mass
  (4:02 PM)

Capitalize that G there, wise guy. Last question...

eric nyc

pick 3 at WR: S Smith, L Evans, B Berrian, Bryant Johnson!

AJ Mass
  (4:03 PM)

I'm going to sit Steve Smith, so help me. And then I'm calling it a day... snow is falling and I've got a shovel to Accio. Thanks for the Q's.
