Fantasy Football w/Scott Engel

Dara from Boston

How do you feel about T.O. and Adrian Peterson (from Minnesota) low performance on sunday? You think it was a bad day for them or it was great game plan from the defense?

Scott Engel
  (2:59 PM)

Happy fantasy playoffs everyone and welcome! I think they are just one down outings, especially in the case of Owens, as no WR has a great outing every week

Steven (tulsa)

is it time to jump back on the Lendale White bandwagon?

Scott Engel
  (3:00 PM)

I think he is still a solid flex option, but Chris Brown will continue to share some carries

Ed, NY

Scott, After seeing the way Jay Cutler performed yesterday, is he start worthy over Kurt Warner?

Scott Engel
  (3:01 PM)

That all depends on the matchup, and I like Warner against the Saints next week

Matt (Knoxville)

looking ahead to next week, with Anderson dropping off over the past few weeks, do i still start him over Brees?

Scott Engel
  (3:02 PM)

I would - big game for the Browns next week against Buffalo

Stephen (Mukwonago)

I got beat in the first round of the playoffs because of Indy's safety and because the Ravens went for two instead of just kicking the extra point last night. Please make me feel better.

Scott Engel
  (3:03 PM)

You lost a very close game on some bad luck and you should be proud of yourself for making the playoffs - your team was obviously as good as any other, things just didn't go your way

Al, Richmond, VA

Scott, Whats the deal with Travis Henry? Was there any indication that Selvin Young was going to be the starter? I think people who started Henry want to smack Shanahan!

Scott Engel
  (3:04 PM)

I think they will continue to share carries, with Henry being used more near the goal line

Rush, Orlando, FL

Is it time to kick Ben Watson to the curb or stick with him because of easy matchups coming ahead? My other choices are Olsen, LJ Smith, Vernon Davis

Scott Engel
  (3:05 PM)

Watson will score on random occasions, and that has little to do with matchup and he's unpredictable - I would still use him over those other guys, though

otto (san diego)

can addai owners drop keith now? he has been a handcuff only and my starters are addai, marshawn and steven jackson with betts and deangelo williams on the pine. need to drop one for the playoffs so who is it and why? thanks!

Scott Engel
  (3:06 PM)

I would drop Betts becaus eyou do not have Portis - you don't want to drop Keith in case something happens to Addai

Stephen (Mukwonago)

Thanks Scott. You're the best. Wish I could say the same for Palmer, Peterson and Owens. Picked a fine time to let me down - all in the same week! Ugh.

Scott Engel
  (3:06 PM)

You're cool too Stephen. Good team, bad week - it happens often in the fantasy playoffs

Amber (Las Vegas, NV)

Scott, the guy is supposed to call the next day. You promised!

Scott Engel
  (3:07 PM)

???? I haven't been to Vegas recently!

Adam (Chicago)

Scott, up 13 going into tonight & opponent has Colston. What are my chances to continue my playoff run? Please answer so maybe I caould breathe easier.

Scott Engel
  (3:08 PM)

I hate to say it, but be very afraid. If Colston scores once, which is highly likely, you are already in danger. But good luck!

craig (fl)

I have Bush (if he comes back), Dayne, and Fargas as possible #2's next week. As they are all dinged up, who's the best pickup - Stecker, Walker, or L. Jordan?

Scott Engel
  (3:10 PM)

I say you don't panic yet and wait to see injury news by midweek at least - too early on Monday to react to these guys

Mark (Baltimore)

Strategy Question:down by 1 point tonight. have both Colston and Redman going. worried about Redman pulling a Grossman. Do I sit him and just rely on Colston? I think it would be bad karma... thoughts?

Scott Engel
  (3:10 PM)

I think it's good strategy - Redman is an unproven journeyman - good move

Jess (Philly)

Is Jabar gaffney worth a start against the Jets? I feel like NE will run up the points, possibly hitting 70.

Scott Engel
  (3:12 PM)

They won't hit 70 as they will be less aggresive once they get to 35-plus - if they run it up they will get over 50 and Gaffney is a good start in larger leagues

Matt (Chicago)

Scott, I got Hasselbeck and Bulger as my QB. Hasselbeck has been great all year, but I'm a little nervous about him sitting out Week 17 and I'm nervous Bulger might be done for the year now. For Week 17, would you recommend picking up Tavaris Jackson or Todd Collins? I do have room on my bench.

Scott Engel
  (3:13 PM)

I would get Jackson for insurance, but keep in mind Seattle could be playing for potseason positioning

Worried (NY)

Playoff game tied, PPR league, R. White vs Stecker...who you got Scott?

Scott Engel
  (3:14 PM)

White even though I don't like Redman, he should get the majority of his completions

Evan NYC

Hi Scott- I need a 3rd receiver next week in the first round of the playoffs. Do I go with Gaffney, A, Gonz, or Gage?

Scott Engel
  (3:15 PM)

Gonzalez, as Harrison is likely out again next week

TJ, Boston

With the Vikings looking at a playoff run, is it more likely that they'll take it easy on AP and give Chester Taylor more of the workload in the next coming weeks? Is he a better option than MJD or Lendale White?

Scott Engel
  (3:16 PM)

i think they will continue to lean a lot on Peterson but use Taylor so Peterson doesn't get overworked - I like Taylor better than White but he will be as unpredictable as MJD

Erik (Phx)

What do you expect tonight from Norwood? I am up by 12 points and would lose the tie breaker. Please try and give me some piece of mind!! If Kolby would have given my something I wouldn't be worried about tonight!! Thanks for all your help throughout the year!

Scott Engel
  (3:18 PM)

You're welcome Eric - Norwood is very unpredicatble, boom or bust, but I believe NO will focus on sutting down the ground game and you have a good shot

Jake (VA Beach)

Down 20 with Brees to play (standard ESPN league)! Do I have hope? By the way, opponent scored 178 - how about THAT luck!

Scott Engel
  (3:20 PM)

You have hope and I wish you luck. But scoring 178 means the other team and its owner are good

Jack (Chicago)

Never bench your Studs! I benched Addai yesterday and i might have cost me my season! (Brees can save it tonight still- thank god)

Scott Engel
  (3:20 PM)

Good point Jack!

Hey Scott...would you have any confidence in playing Selvin Young this thurs at Hou in a playoff game or would you stick with edge? Thanks

Scott Engel
  (3:21 PM)

I think Young has more upside

Rob (Houston)

Up 25 points going into tonight...other team has Brees going. Am I a safe bet to win?

Scott Engel
  (3:22 PM)

25 is a lot to ask, but possible against Atlanta - good luck!

E (TExas)

Who is the better play tonight: Colston or Roddy White?

Scott Engel
  (3:23 PM)

Colston - better QB and has a fine matchup

Zachary (Pittsburgh, PA)

I am down 19 and I have Roddy White, any chance of me winning?

Scott Engel
  (3:25 PM)

That would mean over 100 yards and more than one TD, and I think that is stretching it with Redman at QB

Jim (Cali)

Scott - A Gonz over Steve Smith next week?

Scott Engel
  (3:26 PM)

Yes - Smith has been mediocre and Gonzalez will continue to play well with Harrison out

Steve (Baltimore)

Scott, I nominate the Cleveland Browns offense for the 2007 fantasy HOF. Who are your favorite players who are, unexpectedly, carrying their fantasy teams to championships this year?

Scott Engel
  (3:27 PM)

Ryan Grant, David Garrard, Greg Jennings, Derek Anderson, Earnest Graham

Adam (Minnesota)

Dynasty league question. I have to choose between Palmer and Wayne to keep for next year. I have Rivers for a QB next year and Jennings for WR (play 2 WR & 1 QB). Who would be the better one to keep? Thanks again.

Scott Engel
  (3:29 PM)

I prefer Wayne to give you a great WR combo and then you can explore possible trade options for QB

King (TX)

I just love it that so many fantasy hopes (mine included) lie on Roddy White. That is some crazy stuff.

Scott Engel
  (3:30 PM)

White has performed well recently, so I do not see that as a major surprise

Joe (Wisconsin)

Should I start Dallas Clark or Kellen Winslow, I'm torn because both are having huge years.

Scott Engel
  (3:31 PM)

I think Winslow is the better option to get more important and frequent targets

Robbie (Memphis, TN)

I'm coming off a first round bye in my playoffs and now have to face Brady and Moss. I have Romo so can I expect his to match most of Brady's points this week?

Scott Engel
  (3:32 PM)

Don't worry about your opponent - just expect the best from Romo and keep in mind anything can happen in the fantasy playoffs

Phil (Chicago)

Are the Giants going to start resting Plaxico now that there playoff bid is assured?

Scott Engel
  (3:33 PM)

No - they have not clinched or nailed down their seeding yet

Frank(Medford, MA)

I think I jinxed myself with Travis Henry Scott! But I still escaped round 1 of my playoffs with a victory. Next week you think I start Henry or Maroney at my flex? I'm leaning towards Maroney vs the Jets...

Scott Engel
  (3:35 PM)

Hey Frank, hope you enjoyed watching Selvin Young rush for 156 yards Sunday! Go ahead and start Maroney - you do what you want. :)

shawn (cincy)

Scott..How can you justify not putting in a full lineup eash week? Everyone asks about pulling a defense/QB due to fear of negative points. In my league if you don't fill out a full roster it plugs in the player(s) you had last week. That is the only way it should be. Not playing a full roster is weak in my book.

Scott Engel
  (3:37 PM)

I think you have a legitimate gripe and can make that a rule, but if it doesn't break a rule, I'll do it. You can't control too many things, and controlling negative output is something I will do if possible. But if you don't like it, I can see where you are coming from, too.

Brian (Ontario)

Who out of these 2 journeymen would you start next week, Redman or Collins?

Scott Engel
  (3:38 PM)

Let's see how Redman looks tonight, but for now, I think Collins is more seasoned and ready of the two

Steve (TX)

I was lucky enough to move into the 2nd round of the playoffs in both of my leagues. However, I'm head to head against Brady in both of them next week. Do you think he will set a new fantasy record for points in a game? I see the forecast is for temps in the 20's and 40% chance of snow, maybe that will help slow them down.

Scott Engel
  (3:40 PM)

I think you can't worry about it, and just set your best lineup possible and hope for the best - one player alone cannot beat you

Mark (STL)

Anthony Gonzalez or Deion Branch this week?

Scott Engel
  (3:41 PM)

I like Gonzalez, but I see Branch as being more reliable

Adam (Chicago)

Better keeper for next year, Jennings or Michael Turner? My league favors backs, starting 2 rbs, 2 wrs, and 1 flex rb/wr. Do you see Turner starting somewhere next season?

Scott Engel
  (3:43 PM)

Turner will likely start but it would all depend on where he goes - I think you can wait on that decision

Mike (Nashville)

Down by 9 to my roommate with Colston going tonight. If I win, I probably keep my roommate out of the playoffs (I'm the #1 seed regardless). Should I start preparing a victory dance? Any suggestions? Should I go with the Ray Lewis? Possibly bring back the Dirty Bird? Maybe a little Icky Shuffle?

Scott Engel
  (3:44 PM)

I think you have a good shot to win, and you should do the Bus Stop or the Running Man. Personally, I just put on my fave music and rock out.

Sean (Philly)

Will I get 40 points out of Redman and Stecker in a yardage and TD (6pts) league to advance to the next round of the playoffs?

Scott Engel
  (3:45 PM)

That's not looking too good - don't like Redman and I think Stecker is mediocre, but good luck!

Matthew (greenville, nc)

Has Brandon Marshall finally arrived as a fantasy stud?

Scott Engel
  (3:46 PM)

I think he has arrived as a top 15 guy but he won't explode like that all too often yet - but he is very dependable

Greg Guido (NYC)

What is your favorite music to rock out to Scott? You look like a Metallica type of dude but one never can tell. Berry clearly likes Madonna.

Scott Engel
  (3:48 PM)

I'm a major, major KISS fan - Berry seems to like Springsteen, Rush, etc. I like all kinds of music but KISS is far and away number one for me and I name a lot of my fantasy teams after them

Matt (DC)

Actually Scott, one player alone CAN beat you. And that player's name is Tom Brady.

Scott Engel
  (3:49 PM)

Not if Brady scores 40 and the rest of the squad scores 30 - nothing is absolute in fantasy

I'm an Iron Maiden fan myself ..Do I stick with H.Miller next week in the playoffs or go with Des Clark or Zach Miller

Scott Engel
  (3:51 PM)

I'm not one of those "metal-only" guys and my tastes are all over th eboard after KISS. I like Clark less without Grossman but still prefer him over Miller

Rusty (Texas)

Do I go with Lee Evans against Cleveland and hope Mr. December has a big day or Anthony Gonzalez?

Scott Engel
  (3:52 PM)

I think Evans will be a good start but I would bank more on Gonzalez with Harrison out

Scott, it's like this: I was a huge favorite this week and then Palmer/TO just put up their worst games of the season, my school just got turned down by the head coach of Rutgers, somehow I'm still here and can advance in the playoffs if one of these RBs puts up 6 points tonight: Dunn or Norwood, who do you go with?

Scott Engel
  (3:54 PM)

I would go with Dunn if its PPR, Norwood to get an increased workloa din standard scoring and better shot to rip off a long run

I'm up 6 with my opponent starting either Dunn or Norwood. Am I dead either way? Or should I try to curse one with my secret voodoo?

Scott Engel
  (3:55 PM)

I am not expecting too much from the Falcons ground game tonight, so you have a good shot, and good luck!

robert, texas

david garrard or cutler? garrard has a tough matchup.

Scott Engel
  (3:57 PM)

Garrard has been steady and I would still lean on him, but I like Cutler better against Houston

Jeff (Feeding Hills MA)

Is Maroney being gameplanned out of productivity, or is his inability as an every down back in the NFL being exposed?

Scott Engel
  (3:57 PM)

Both, Jeff!

Rob (Grand Rapids, MI)

Which QB would you roll out there this week? Rosenfels/Schaub vs DEN, Bulger vs GBY, Jackson vs CHI, Edwards vs CLE, McCown vs ATL or Clemens @ NE?

Scott Engel
  (3:59 PM)

Buger may be out again, I would certainly not use McCown or Clemens, and I don't expect a repeat performance from Edwards, so I lean Rosenfels for now

Bill (MD)

My commissioner is threatening to change the playoff tie-breakers just to get a bye. Although he may have deserved it, I think it's unfair to change during season. Correct? For the record my team didn't make the playoffs.

Scott Engel
  (4:00 PM)

He cannot change the rule now - that is just plain wrong. Change it after the season.

Rebecca (St Louis)

Hi Scott - don't leave yet. Quick one. Playoffs start next week. What is your preferred playoff tiebreaker?

Scott Engel
  (4:01 PM)

Better regular season record and higher seeding, and then bench points. Thanks a lot everyone!
