Good afternoon everyone..let's get the party started.
of these drivers who are the 5 best this weekend 18,20,07,43,2,26
I like the Toyota horsepower.so I like the 18 and the 20..20 is my pre-race pick to win..07 has not had a bad race yet at Daytona..although he's been wrecked..43..Bobby's deal getting better...then 26 defending winner and this will be a handling deal..So Roush has edge there over 2..
On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate this team for Daytona: 18-20-2-26-7?
I'd rate it a 5.5
Mark the plate tracks are unpredictable for sure. I need two drivers from this group 5, 19, 12, 2, 83, 6. I am leaning towards 83 and the 6. Your Thoughts??
They are a pit of a crap shoot but second race at Daytona a little more predictable because it really turns into a handling deal..83 probably needs to be there..I'm undecided though if I like 6 more than 12.. probably not.
Hey Mark, How do you think we should treat cars that looked like junk at Daytona in February but had very good runs at Talladega in April? Like for example, the 6?
Daytona in July is way different than any of the three plate races. It turns into a big downforce race..like California or Vegas, Texas etc...most teams bring high downforce cars and will give up a good qualifying effort for a car that wil handle better in the race. So, in other words I don't think Talladega plays into this at all..This is one race where you have to keep close tabs on the final practice.how many laps guys are running, old tires or new, and then you can really make educated guesses on Saturday afternoon.
Markdo you think the 20 can break out of his bad luck this week or would I be better off staying away? Which would you chose, pick 1 20,31,48 ,or 24. Pick 218,9,12,6,or 19. Pick 1 83,44,77 or28. Thanks Mark.
I think Tony wins this week...team running to strong lately and getting nothing to show for it..in group 1..20...group 2..18 and 9...Group 3..83
How does 83-20-17-2-24 sound. Does qualifying and pratice mean as much as past track history. I am only looking to survive this weekend. Thanks Mark
Beth that's not too bad a team..could do very well..what happens this weekend as far as practice is what will mean the most to me..not past history..with the COT..this deal changing almost every week..and ...god luck with the surviving thing.
My league has no salary cap, and the drivers you have you own unless you trade them. I was thinking about trading Biffle and JPM for Carl Edward and Regan Smith. What are your thoughts o great one?
Don't do that...Regan Smith is top-25..JPM should do a little better than that..BIffle and Edwards could be a wash.
What's Up Guru?..Picking 4th & 17th this week. Can you give me your best picks for each spot...For #4 I'm thinking the #18 or the #48...Your thoughts?
I'd go with the 18..they have lots of power and has done pretty well on the high downforce tracks...Bowyer might be available back there at #17...If he's not..Vickers might be another guy to look at...
Mark, How do you think the #2 and #9 will do in this race at Daytona? I have the current lineup and I know its early 99,88,9,2,7 but do you see any changes that need to take place?
Greg...The only guy in that group that gives me a "rash".is Robby Gordon..he's been top-15 in the last two July races at BIg D...but his season is so very ugly ..not sure I'd want to go there.I see the 99 and 88 potential top-10...the 9 potential top-10..2..top-15.
Mark-- Are the Yates cars a good value this week? Seems like they run pretty decent on the plate tracks. Also, who is the best initial option of these three: 20,24, or 48?
Gilliland had a pretty good run last year in July..worth some consideration..I like the 20 a little more than the 48 and 24 this week.
Mark, how would you rank these low-end drivers - 2, 38, 19, 26, 7, 77?
QUESTION TO MARK GARROW AT 4.05 PM U.SA TIME HI MARK WHAT HAPPEN TO OUR SCOTCH / ITALIAN LAD DARI0 WITH CHIP GANASSI
That was surprising to me...I would have thought Franchitti would have had an iron clad guarantee to run the full season since he was giving up a big time deal in Indy cars..Dario had a tough break literally and figuratively when he broke his ankle..worst timing..he was just starting to get "it"..and that really set him back.
Mark, anyone coming out of nowhere this week? I was thinking of rolling the dice with one of the following: Mears, Sadler, Ragan or Labonte. Do you find that veterans are best suited for Daytona, or can anyone win at any time?
Joe, this race the most predictable of the plate races in my opinion..tough for someone to come out of nowhere but then again McMurray did that a year ago..I think Labonte and Sadler will be pretty tough this Saturday night.
Why am I running like junk again? Will this keep up and I miss the Chase?
Relax man..you won't win again this week, but you'll probably run top-10.
I can pick one driver from each chev, ford, dodge, and toyota. I have to make my picks before qualifying. I have 88, 17, 12, and 18. Would you change any of those?
That's a pretty strong and safe line-up..88 should be strongest Chevy..99 might be better than 17 by just a tick..20 over 18 maybe...then maybe 9 over 12..
What's your opinion of Sadler's chances in Daytona?
I think he's got a shot to run top-20 minimum and probably top-15...they are running solidly lately and he likes Daytona.
I see Dario is not running NW race, was that predetermined or did he lose his NW ride also?
Was predetermined..but interesting to see what's next..does Ganassi stick with strong running rookie Bryan Clauson...put Franchitti in that fide full-time.
What's your take on the Montoya/Kyle incident from Loudon?
Montoya out of bounds because he could have wrecked a number of innocent victims..I've got no problem with him standing up to Busch..but picked wrong way and wrong time.
Mark will the top 5 drivers in points just be out riding this week?
Not necessarily..but it will surely be only one thought away at all times.
What are your thoughts about EJr. this week.
I can see him running top-five with maybe outside shot at the win.
Hey, big guy! Thanks for clueing us in on Mikey and Yeley(!?) How can we EVER trust you again?? lol These races are steadily becoming more chaotic and unpredictable. Is it the new car, parity, desperation or what?
John..you're right...I really looked like a "guru" last week...anybody that had those two guys on their team are just fans of those guys...still I hate to get beat like that..hate to see it not coming...parity and desperation..if you have nothing to lose..you can try whacked out stuff and if it doens't work out so what..if it does..you look like a hero..
Do you think that other drivers are running out of patience with Rowdy? The whole Montoya incident makes me think that we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg. The guy has talent but he sure does rub people the wrong way. Success at Daytona is dependant on cooperation. Does Rowdy get hung out to dry?
I think guys have lost patience with Rowdy just a bit..but you don't need as much help in July as you need in February..He's got a shot to win or run top-five Saturday night.
Thoughts on Robby Gordon and Hornish Jr as dark horses.
Robby has been top-15 last two 400's..Hornish had a nice run in February..still both of these guys scare me half to death...last week I said use Bobby Labonte as bottom pick and work up..might be tha way again this week.
Hey Mark! Thanks to great planning and your chats I'm in 1st place with the 18, 88, 48 heading my team this week. Wondering who you would go with for the fourth driver- the 9 or the 2?
Glad we're such a great team...do I get a cut?..lol..I'm leaning towards the 9 over 2.
what do u think about Petty enterprises move, and Kyle Petty saying he is STILL going to drive the 45 car for a while longer... isnt it time..
Petty's had to do it or close the doors..I think Kyle will be really determined next year to do more on the track than off it..it will be interesting to see how that works out.
Will Matt Kenseth crack the top 12 this season?
I think he will and it will happen in the next week or two.
Good afternoon Mark. Could you please rate the top 8 drivers for Daytona this Saturday? I'm in a different league but I currently have:24,48,88,20,11,07,83,18. Is that a good line-up?
That's a pretty good line-up..Here's my pre-race top-10 which will be a lot different on Sunday morning..1. Tony Stewart 2. Kyle Busch 3. Carl Edwards 4. Dale Earnhardt,Jr. 5. Denny Hamlin 6. Jimmie Johnson 7. Matt Kenseth 8. Clint Bowyer 9. Jeff Burton 10.Greg Biffle
Hi Mark. Why do you feel that this is the most predictable plate race? Based on Daytona 1's results? If so, why wouldn't Talladega 2 be predictable for the same reason (based on Talla 1's results)?
Not predictable on a Daytona or Talladega race..but potentialy predictable like a downforce race...when we walk through the garage Saturday there will be some clear cut favorites and a few surprises like we would find at a California race.
do you like any of the RCR cars this week?
I like Bowyer a little better than Burton or Harvick...should all finish top-15 or top-10..
David Gilliland will win this week. Mark it down.
If that happens..I'll open the chat next week with GO BIG MAMA!
Marl , you are doing a great job on radio , listen every week. Will this race bring out the got to have a teammate to run up front scenario.
Thanks for the radio compliment..Since I work with PRN we won't be back on air until Bristol next month..Teamates are always a good thing in a plate race but less at Daytona in July than any of the other plate shootouts.
i am looking for a dark horse- ragan, sadler or gilliland
I'd lean towards Sadler...very fast lately.
Your Top 8 Cars for Daytona before Practice or Qualifing. Thanks Sir
1. Tony Stewart 2. Kyle Busch 3. Carl Edwards 4. Dale Earnhardt,Jr. 5. Denny Hamlin 6. Jimmie Johnson 7. Matt Kenseth 8. Clint Bowyer 9. Jeff Burton 10.Greg Biffle
bobby labonte has been running decent lately, he just might break through for a win or top 3 soon.. your thoughts?
I think that team could be steady top-15 and occasional top-10..don't see top-five or a win.
Good afternoon Mark. Could you please rank the top 8 drivers? I'm in a different league and my team is currently 24,48,88,07,11,83,18. Would you change any from this group?
Sam..I think that's a pretty strong team.
What is the story with Sorenson? He was great earlier in the year at Daytona, has been downright terrible for the entire year, and last week he was in the mix. Crazy to consider him this weekend?
Your guess as good as mine..but I stay away from who's performance chart looks like my stock report..arrow pointing steeply down...
i got harvick, kyle busch, ragan and vickers set for this week. good or go back to drawing board
That could be a decent team..but Harvick hasn't done much lately..Ragan and Vickers a little risky too.
I read that the Fords will need the draft to keep up this week. They don't have the HP to pull themselves up. Do you agree?
They are down a little bit on horsepower..but this will be a handling track and slick surface will allow those with a little less under the hood to keep up.
Would you load up on Hendrick drivers or Gibbs drivers for your line-up?
I like the Gibbs trio a lot and no group is better right now.
Mark, Labonte over Sadler as the low-end pick? And what about other guys in the price range like Gilliland and Jamie Mac?
I think Labonte, Sadler and Jamie Mac could be in pretty good shape..Gilliland.that team you never know..improving but inconsistent still.
how good will kahne be this week? - im limited to 9 starts per season for any driver and im wondering if i should use someone like sadler or even gilliand instead and save the #9 for another day - thanks!
I think you could use someone other than the 9 and do okay..he'll be more in his element the next week at Chicagoland.
i am trying to come back by using sneaky picks. bowyer and sadler come to mind. what about waltrip or anyone else?
I think it would be asking for a little too much for Waltrip to have that kind of finish again this week that's for sure..Bowyer and Sadler will be a pretty good place to start..
Mark, are there any openings for analysts at ESPN?
Absolutely..but don't give up on the day job just yet.
can you rank these low-end drivers: 55,77,83,84,44,66,28 - thanks!
Who do you think will put up a better showing Kasey Khane or Kurt Busch?
I still think Kahne because he has just been more consistently up front lately.
there are two mike's in LA - i swear we arent the same guy! - thanks for answering both of our questions - can you rank these low-level drivers - i know it isnt easy this early but a rough guess would be fine: 55,83,28,44,66,77,84 - thanks!
We're good right?
Sadler or Kahne?
I like Kahne a little better...but Sadler could wind up a solid pick this week.just have to wait for the final practice.
Mark, which do you like as an early lineup: 18-88-20-19-77, 18-20-2-38-19, or 20-07-29-2-19
Mike, got to tell I'm not comfortable with any of these line-ups right now..have to see how practice winds up before I starting getting too high on 77,38, the 2 or 29..probably 19 for that matter too.. At this point, I wouldn't want any three of your teams as mine..sorry..
How many more teams will fold up before Daytona..should I avoid Yates?
Yates wil be there...and they'll hang in for entire season..after that who knows?
Got to run..catch everybody Saturday afternoon!
