Hello folks. Did you sit through the entire Pocono marathon? What's on your mind.
Terry, It was all in the game of racing, but what happened at pocono was a little nutty...The Rain delay decided the race...I dont like competition yellows but what is your view of allowing at least a fill up after a rain red. (Tires are another animial.)
I'd be againt it. Teams know the rain is coming. They all have radar screens on the pit wagon. They have to decide the best option and make it work.
Mears to Petty Enterprises -- do you think it's going to happen?
It would be a good thing for PE to add a young guy with experience. On it happening, I would say 60/40.
is this true or false that truex got mad and wanted to punch max seigel
Truex did not want to punch anyone.
Why in the hell is Truex even considering staying at the Titanic of NASCAR?
Because Truex will be the No. 1 guy and they are offering him big money there. Anywhere else he might go, he won't be the top guy. At RCR, he would be the fourth guy with a car he has to qualify for the first five races..
what is the strangest thing you have ever been asked
Who is liked less: Teresa Earnhart or Kyle Busch?
A real toss up there. But I'd say TE
Jimmie Johnson finsihed 2nd at Chicago then won at Indy. Carl Edwards finished 2nd at Indy then won at Pocono. Tony Stewart finished 2nd at Pocono. Based on this trend is it safe to say that he will win at Watkins Glen this week? If not then who will win?
That's way too much math for me, but Tony always is a threat to win at The Glen.
Given a few years to work out the kinks...Can Newman ever become a legit championship contender at Stewart-Haas?
If his equipment is good enough, Newman can run up front with the big boys.
Terry do you see the chase as a 3 man show with CE, JJ and KB? It just doesn't look like anyone else can consistently run with them.
That still could change. It didn't look like anyone could run with Kyle a few weeks ago. But the guy who won the last two titles is heating up. That would concern me if I was the frontrunner.
By next year that will be like being the No. 1 guy at BAM Racing.
DEI could race the cars in reverse and be better than BAM Racing.
should I worry about reed sorenson
It looks like he'll be back next year in the 41.
Could you see chevy and/or ford over a long time getting bumped out of the sport for the most part and toyota taking over?
No. As long as Chevy and Ford stay in business, they need to compete ijn NASCAR. It's the best marketing tool they have.
Terry, do you see NASCAR raising the splitter in the offseason so it adds downforce to the current chassis and allow teams to adjust on the car easier?
I think NASCAR is more open now to changing the car in the future. Pemberton said they would consider changing the sheet metal around the wheel well if they needed to go to a wider and bigger tire.
Do you know any of the details of the "option" on Truex's contract. I know DEI thinks it locks him up next year and Truex disagrees, but anything on the substance of the provision at issue?
I'm no lawyer, so I don't have a clue. But I don't think it will come down to that.
who should be my dark horse at watkins glenn if vickers is my horse
I think Truex might surprise some people at The Glen. He's a strong road racer.
Why was NASCAR so against changing the car (with the team's input)? Did they see it as whining by the crews? Or, people trying to get an advantage?
NASCAR doesn't see the tires as a big problem at most tracks, but they are open now to Goodyear developing a wider tire. Even if that happens, it won't be until 2010.
Is Keselowski back in the 88 next year? I know I read that Jr. said he has a bit of a big head.
Junior loves Brad. I think he'll drive one more year in NW before moving full time to Cup.
The Rain tire debacle not withstanding but should NASCAR (in both cup and nationwide) run more road courses? and yes im a Giles Villenueve raceway fan ;)
NASCAR isn't going to run more road courses. Two is what you get.
Most underrated road racer is Hamlin.
I agree he's much better at it than many people think.
will there be harvick vs. montoya 2
Nay. Way too long ago. They're over it.
As a die-hard M Martin...CAN THIS GUY EVER CATCH A BREAK...no excuse in poor pitstops...once in a race is a mistake...twice, come on !!!
Martin showed a lot of class by not thorwing his guys under the bus. The No. 5 crew will love him next year.
And UPS is going too??
Deliver your packages on time. Other than that, it's still up in the air.
Any chance we could see rain tires in anything besides road courses? Will they ever make it to Cup series?
Not on oval tracks.
Terry, you weren't the person who asked Jr. if he was going to try harder were you? LOL
Actually, three different people asked that question during that session, It was pretty funny because Junior calmly shook his head each time and laughed it off.
Any updates on Newman's sponsor situation? Please tell me it's not Burger King...
You have somehting against hamburgers?
whats going on with the 18? i read they were trying some things out at pocono...any idea what they were?
They are in position to experiment a little on set-ups, but I wouldn't do nything to upset Kyle's mental state. He has to hear Jimmie and Carl's footsteps now.
I think Newman would look great wearing a crown on pit road.
If we get whoppers in the media center, I'm all for it.
The result wasn't good, but can we throw the whole 18 car can't run on flat tracks thought out the window? He was in the Top 10 most of the day.
The 18 can run up front anywhere. The Pocono results were just a fluke deal.
I went to both races, can we at least agree that we had two entertaining Pocono races in 2008?
They'd be a lot more entertaining at 400 miles instead of 500.
So whats the latest on the 4th RCR car, is there a guy with the inside track, and whats the chances we'll see Jeffrey Earnhardt in the big leagues in the next few years, and with who?
If Jeffrey has any talent at all he'll make it to Cup becasue sponsors would love it. But it's still several years away.
So it's been since 2001 since Gordon has won at the Glen and his struggles at Sonoma can be noted (yes it was 3rd place but it was lucky). Think the DuPont team has righted the ship enough to get that elusive first win?
Gordon always is capable of winning on a road course. He may be the best road racer in NASCAR history.
What impressed you more, my Pocono win or my cleaning of my own windshield while driving.
Definitely the mop job on the window at Montreal fake Carll. Now that's multi-tasking! The funniest video clip of the season.
What's your current best guess for the driver of these cars next year -- 12, 33, 45?
Stremme in the 12, Mears could go to the 33 if they make a sponsor swap within the organization. If not, he goes to the 45 and the 33 is up for grabs. .
Allmendinger is within 100 points of getting the 84 in the top 35, do you see him doing it by the end of the year?
No, but AJ is on the rise and the Red Bull team has been the surprise of the season. Really remarkable what Jay Frye has done there.
Do you think that they will move Joey Laganno to Cup next year or do you think it is to early?
Young Joey probably is headed to the 20 next year.
Is it just me or do you not picture an 18 year old kid doing home improvement projects?
But I picture Home Dept being thrilled to have the best young phenom in the sport.
What track during the first 26 races is the best indicator for how things will go at Kansas during the chase?
Chicago. Those two tracks are very similar.
My prediction, no 4th car at RCR. Cheerios goes to Bowyers car. Times are tuff.
They aren't that tough. RCR will have four cars in 09.
Will Carl wiping his window be the indellable image of the Rain Tire expirment or will NASCAR try it again on Road Courses?
I thought the rain tire thing was fun. I think we could seem it again in certain situations. But make sure all the cars have wipers.
McMurray is a pretty underrated road racer as well. Do you think he can pull off a Top 10?
I wouldn' t bet on it. Things just aren't going well there.
Make a bold prediction Terry! Stewart goes on to win _____ races in '08.
Jeff Gordon the best road racer ? Given his time in the sport, Tony Stewart has finished in the top 10 about 70 % of the time. Jeff Gordon's is more around 30 %. He only has 3 more wins and 7 more top 10's than Tony and Tony has raced in 12 less races. Tony is just as good if not better when you go by percentage.
Give me equal equipment on a road course and I'll take Gordon, but both of them are superb road racers.
Speaking of McMurray which RFR team gets the axe once the 4 car rule takes effect? The axe probably meaning moving to Yates.
The 26, but that won't happen until 2010.
If you are on a team building for next year (no Chase), what is the best strategy? Keep plugging away or try some radical things?
A little too early to build for next year. Maybe starting in late Sept.
I am headin' to Dega...any good place to get sushi down there???
Yes. In the many ponds and lakes of Alabama. Just catch it and eat it.
With only 43 or 44 cars entered at most races right now, how important is it to be top 35? Isn't it more about top 35 at the end of the year for next year right now?
Yes, but you still risk being the odd man out on any given weekend.
What is the best Nascar road race you have ever seen?
Montoya's remarkable drive to the front in the Mexico City race last year.
Ah...but here's the thing. Jeff Gordon has had equal if not better equipment than Stewart his entire career...but Stewart still has the edge when it comes to road races.
You should go to work for Tony's PR team.
Any possibility of Montoya and Ganassi splitting ways so Montoya can hitch onto the 4th car of RCR?
Not unless he can break his contract.
How big was Harvick's comeback on Sunday to his chances for the chase? Now they are getting to some tracks where he's had some success.
It certainly helped. That's what good team do, make the most out of a day that starts badly. But he's still in the danger zone. He can't afford any bad finishes this month.
Though they is have bad year in term of wins, I think Stewert or Gordon could still win the hole thing! do You? I knows they will be down 70 or so point to Kile Bush, but a low 30 finish in the New Hamshir race and he'd be down 70 points. Seems to be wideopen. bc 70 points can easily be wiped out over 10 races, I wouldn't be suprised to see the big names return. Is I crazy/wrong?
Tony and Jeff are two of the best drivers ever to sit in a stock car. But neither teams is performing at a championship level right now on a consistent basis. That could change. If you make the Chase, you can get hot and win it. Those 70 points won't stop you.
You think Jr. and his team will actually win another race this year or is he destined to fall off at the end almost every week.
Junior easily could win more races. He'll be the favorite heading to Richmond and he always runs well at Dega.
So Terry you think McMurray comes back nexy year at Roush Fenway?
Jamie said at Indy that he defintely was coming back in 09.
Do you think that Newman is in fact going to Stewart's team or is there a chance that he could still end up at Gibbs.
All indicatons are Newman will sign with Stewart.
Terry - I saw that Jack Rousch and Edwards admitted that Carl wasn't ready to win a championship until this season. Could you see Joe Gibbs and Kyle Busch saying the same thing if Kyle doesn't win it all this year?
No because that's not the kind of thing Gibbs would say publicly. And you know Kyle wouldn't say it.
I'm out guys. Enjoyed the banter today. Have a great week. Peace.
