Hello - everyone!! Thanks for joining me. Lets get rolling.
Craig, is Louisiana RB Montrell Conner worth all the hype we're hearing about him down here?
We believe so -- he is a big back that is more of a work-horse then he is a highlight reel type back. He runs hard and hits the hole hard and is a north-south runner. He can wear down defenses and is a blue collar grind it out type back.
will florida's new recruits stand out on defense
They will get the chance -- that is for sure. With the injuries to the safety spot expect to see Will Hill starting in week 1 if not playing a bunch and also Omar Hunter should expect to get his number called quickly and could be a huge help on the interior of that D-line.
Craig, what are your thoughts on Sylvester Croom's recruiting so far at Mississippi State?
Well we just talked about Conner and we think he is good -- I really like DE Fletcher Cox -- nice upside -- Jonathan Banks a good athlete - graded out nicely.
I think Croom is getting that ship moving in the right direction -- the SEC is tough and it will not be easy sledding - but i expect them to win some games and kids seem to be looking harder at MSU -- especially in-state - right now i think they have the in-state edge over Ole Miss.
When can I expect to see my Orangemen in the Top 25 again?
Um...well....I think it could be a while -- i would not put anything in ink in your date book. I don't believe that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the Orange. I think times have changed and it will be tough for the Cuse to get back to some past glory.
Recruits today don't remember past Orange teams that were good - and the Cuse is not in a recruiting hotbed (upstate New York) so they need to go out and compete for kids and that is tough when you have to battle BC, a now tough Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan, Pitt, etc. It could be a while - even a long while.
Does the dismissal of Jarboe help OU's recruiting this year? If he was dismissed at the time of his high school problem, would that have impacted Julio Jones decision? Thanks
As far as Jones -- I don't think it would have mattered - I think he was headed to in-state Bama either way. Does it hurt Oklahoma? -- negative publicity never helps and they lose a very good player -- but they acted swiftly - I truly do not think it hurts or helps -- it was incident that happened and was handled and everyone will just move on -- Looks Jarboe headed to Troy.
What's the status with Kennard and Te'o? Are they leaning towards USC? And when can we expect verbals from them?
I think Trojan fans could feel good about the chances to land either or both -- but i think it will be a while before we hear a final decision from either guy.
Dave Wannstedt has recruited very well the past 3 seasons and hopefully this is the year that the talent he has accumulated finally puts it all together on the field. My question is in regards to 2009 QB prospect Paul Jones from Mckees Rocks, PA (Sto-Rox). There are rumors he is very high on Pitt and could be Pitt's highest rated qb recruit in a very long time. Have you seen film of him and if so what are your thoughts on his abilities?? Thanks.
Jason - Jones is a 2010 kid -- i have not seen him yet. Pitt did land an ESPNU 150 guy in 2007 with Bostick. Also Tino Sunseri last year who graded out well - so they have landed some good QB's in the past -- we will have to see about Jones.
Should Gator Nation be concerned about how few commits they have so far, and how many top players are already committed to major schools?
No - not at all -- i wouldn't expect a huge class from Florida this year - maybe about 18
Last week you discussed William Campbell being better suited for the OT position. How does he rank among the OTs? Is he an elite OT prospect?
While we think he is better suited to OT -- we still think he is a good prospect and a good OT prospect. I think lost in some of the shock of him not being in the 150 is the fact that we still think that he is a good prospect. He ranks among the top 20 OT's in this class.
I know the Irish are lucky, but how do they keep managing to get top notch players out of California (J. Clausen, D. Christ)? Is Oxnard, CA RB Cierre Wood really as good as advertised - or is he just a product of the ND Hype Machine?
ND is a program that can recuit nationally so to land kids out of California is not a shock -- especially QB's with the lure of Weis. We like Wood -- maybe a little over-hyped -- we just don't know if he is a true RB and may be better suited to safety or as a situational back on offense. Still a good player though and a nice pick-up. top 25 nationally!
I thought Ohio State was doing well in recruiting this year. Why are you not so high on their class. You wrote mediocre at best?
Say what? They just moved up to #2 in our latest rankings.
Is Texas done for this year? If not, who do you see signing " Thanks.
Probably not much more for the Longhorns - but they are still battling for 2 good D-linemen - DE Devon Kennard and DT Jamarkus McFarland.
Thoughts on Missouri's class so far? What are your thoughts on thier chances on landing Wingo?
Good class - not great - not top ten or pushing for top ten at this point -- but they seem set at QB for a while with Blaine Dalton on board (added with Gabbert from 08) and also Sheldon Richardson a talented and athletic big man. Gotta like their chances with the in-state Wingo -- but looks like that battle will wage on for a bit.
Tim Brewster's 2009 class doesn't look anywhere as good as the 2008 class so far. What's the deal?
Well they did not have a very good year in 2007 on the field - that was obvious - Plus he is no longer the "new" coach so some of that buzz is gone that goes with a new regime coming.
All in all - though this class at this point is not a dog -- they have a good QB on board in Alipate and a pair of good RB's in Eric Stephens and Hasan Lipscomb both from Texas.
We will have to see what damage they can do this fall - some wins would likely help strengthen this class.
Nebraska has picked it up in the last few weeks. How do you see them doing from here on? Do you think Oku and Lowe will both commit?
Andrew you are right - some good recent pick-ups to get the Husker fans talking - excellent athlete in Cody Green - is he a college QB? don't know yet - and lean towards I don't think so -- but a very good football player and landing DeAndre Byrd from Florida -- HUGE - he is a nice grab from a HS that has produced some good college defensive backs.
My question is where is the size with the defensive linemen? Randle, Evans, and Pensick all good players but light in the pants -- they need some corn feeding to get them bulked up.
I saw Rivals updated RB Trent Richardson to a 5 star recruit. How good is this kid, he looks like a beast coming out of the backfield?
Well Jeremiah - Trent is a very good player - one of the nation's best backs - really neck and neck with Jaamal Berry. We have had a report up on him since this spring breaking down his game -- and have talked about what a good player this kid is for months now -- he was ranked 12th right out the gate in our ESPNU 150 last week.
Physically this kid is a well put together young man - he is muscular and can carry the ball and take and give out punishment. Plus he has the speed to hurt you when he gets out on the perimeter.
Well folks -- I have to run -- Thanks for the questions and taking time to stop by. Great questions and we will be back next week. Take Care.
