Greetings Fight Freaks. First off, I want to dispel the rumor that I am John McCain's VP nominee. With that out of the way, make sure you check out today's giant notebook and all the coverage we've had on Oscar-Pacquiao. Let's get to it.
Great Friday Danastota. Any word on the concessions both Manny and DLH made to get this fight deal done?
We already know that Oscar made concessions on the weight and glove size. Although they wouldn't say what the percentage split was specifically, since they were at 70-30 on one side and 60-40 on the other I think it is safe to assume that ultimately they settled at probably 67-33 -- two-thirds/one-third, which is fair in my opinion.
Dan, I knew DLH would want to possibly fight again in 09! Do you think he's serious or just trying to draw more attention to this fight? And if he does fight next year on Cinco De Mayo weekend, how about a fight with Margario or Chavez Jr? That would be HUGE!
I never believed for a moment that December would be Oscar's last fight. What he does next year remains to be seen. I can see him fighting Hatton if he beats Paulie. I could also see him fighting Chavez Jr., which is a fight I wrote about as making sense quite some time ago.
Dan, You got one of your wishes for your B-Day, the fight with Pacquaio and DLH is done!!! I know it's early but who do you favor in the fight?
You have to favor Oscar but I do not AT ALL discount Manny's chance to win.
Man, Dan I was kind of hoping for the "prize fight" concept to go through...
Maybe they did make that part of the deal, but if they did they have not revealed it yet.
Hi dad, am I still in your doghouse?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child. Yes. Go to your room.
Im a big fan of the iron boy but how do you think the undercard for tommorow night is?
Pretty weak, but I am still buying the PPV because I want to see the main event, the rematch between Calderon and Cazares.
dan the man, any idea when the tickets for de la hoay/pacquiao go on sale?
That has not yet been determined. Golden Boy and Top Rank are working out those details.
Big FreaKING: We got the fight! Manny-Oscar is on! So please lets not be hatters!! This is a classic throwback to the days when fighters fought fighters, regardless of weight(Calling F$M)! So be happy and get Excited!!
Mr. Dan, We HAVE TO KNOW.....your pick on the Valuev vs. Ruiz rematch?
If you insist -- Valuev.
Danno, which Sept. 13th card will you be attending and which Casa/JMM undercard fights will be part of the PPV telecast?
I will be in Las Vegas for Casaamayor-Marquez. The televised fights are the main event, Mora-Forrest 2, Baby Face Garcia-Yory Boy Campas and a fight that has still not been determined.
I really like Manny's chances if he can make it past 6 rounds without getting rocked hard. Freddie is right, Manny gets stronger and Oscar fades as the fight goes on
Dan, will the combination of Calderon's age and style finally catch up to him under the relentless pressure of Cazares?
It's certainly possible. I spoke to Iron Boy this week and he was very confident. Cazares has had a terrrible problem with weight, which could really sap him of his strength. That would be good for Calderon.
I think if De la Hoya loses to Pacman it will certainly affect his legacy in the minds of boxing fans. I know he has done a TON for the sport but a big welterweight with the stature of Oscar fighting a junior lightweight, he has to win to keep his status intact, right?
I think if Oscar loses to Manny it doesn't really hurt his legacy too much. He's 35 and has done it all. He's at the end of his career. You can't take away all that he has already done. Put it this way -- does it hurt Ali's legacy that he lost to Holmes and Berbick in his last two fights? Does it hurt Sugar Ray Leonard that he lost to Camacho in his last fight? No.
Your prediction for tonights 'Rumble at Rama'...does Molitor kick butt and if so, what is next for him?
Molito's opponent has faced woeful competition and Steve should roll. If he wins and Caballero wins his fight in a couple of weeks, they will fight in November in Canada and it will be on ShoBox.
DTM, I read that N'DOU vs Cintron on the undercard of Lacy-Taylor. Is that true, and do you like the matchup?
You may have read it, but it's not a done deal. I spoke to Lou DiBella yesterday on several subjects, including that. He said they are working on it and it's possible, but there's no deal yet. Whatever happens though, Cintron is supposed to be on that undercard.
Dan, Happy Belated Birthday...although this was not on your birthday wish list, you have to be happy Jenny Garth is returning as Kelly Taylor in next week's premier of the "New" 90210...
I am thrilled.
SuperFreak Is Williams-Collazo close to being done?
No. The Collazo camp is on crack based on the money I have been told they are asking for.
Who is Mijares' promoter? Just a shame he is fighting off TV tomorrow, seems very marketable already...
Mijares is promoted by DiBella and Nacho Huizar. The fight may not be on TV in the US, but in Mexico it is on a major broadcast network, Televisa.
Why is no one talking about Katsidis/Diaz??? THIS WILL BE WAR!!
Yes it will be. I am really looking forward to chilling at home and watching it on the big screen.
Dan, what type of fight was the first Santos-Margartio fight? I've thought that would be a good fight for awhile now (the fight wouldn't earn anought to buy a quiznos sub but that's another story) anyway apparently they fought in 04 but I don't remember anything about that fight?
The first one was over in the first round and a no contest. They clashed heads and there was a cut and that was it. VERY disappointing fight. In the rematch, which was at 154, there was another head butt and the fight was stopped, but it had gone long enough (nine rounds if I recall) and it went to the cards and Santos won a very close technical decision.
Sorry, BAT PHONE.
Dan, are you upset that I am going to remain an amateur? Can I still be the European Love Child?
I am so sad.
Hey Dan, I think it's cool that Showtime gets interested in our Canadian boxing stars like Molitor and Lucian Bute. It will showcase them to the US boxing fans and help their popularity. Maybe Adrian Diaconu will be next
Showtime had accepted Diaconu as an opponent for Dawson last fall but then he got injured and the fight was off. Maybe they will revisit him if Dawson beats Tarver.
Dan - congrats on breaking the Oscar and Paquiao fight first. The bat phone at work!
Thank you. The Bat Phone never sleeps.
Happy belated Birthday Dan!!! 50 is a big milestone. Are you positive that HBO will not have Lampley or Merchant to call the Casamayor vs Marquez fight?
LOL! I am not 50 or anywhere near it. Anyway, HBO's announcers will not be calling the Casamayor-Marquez fight. I believe that Barry Tompkins will be on the blow-by-blow.
Is there any way to watch Valuev v. Ruiz in the States or online? I'm surprised no station is broadcasting it. Not a great fight, but significant and you would think Valuev would have some drawing power. No?
I believe it will be on the ARD Web site live. That is the German telvision network that carries Sauerland-promoted fight cards.
Is there a reason ESPN stops showing boxing after August? Are they aware that it's not a seasonal sport?
ESPN has committments to a lot of college football and other sports, hence the lack of live boxing in the fall. I don't like it but that is the way it is.
SportsCenter Live, how long until the Freak Chat gets some TV Love?
Well when I was on FNF a couple of weeks ago my man Joe Tessitore asked what I had chatted about with the Freaks earlier in the day, so you got love!
Fights from Montreal are great to watch, AWESOME crowds -- crazed soccer atmosphere. Remember Ngoudjo-Bailey under the lights in the rain, thunder, solid action!
Will you be able to actually type, "John Ruiz, 3-time heavyweight champ?"
No, but if he wins I be just fine typing "John Ruiz, three-time heavyweight beltholder."
D$ - Does Larry Merchant have any other "crazy" dream fights to share? Pavlik-Wlad?
He did mention Pavlik-Margarito for down the road to me not too long ago.
Dan, if Larry Merchant doesn't get to work the Oscar - Pacquiao fight it would be a travesty
I think it is safe to say he will be ringside for that one.
Winky is chilling with me, we're waiting for the big money fights
Hey Dan, can you please go have a chat with your Yahoo buddy Kevin Iole. The man needs a reminder that this sports need a big event and Pacquiao v DHL is just that.
I read Kevin's column. He's a friend of mine. We sit next to each other at most fights we attend and I have tremendous respect for him and his writing. However, on the topic of this fight between Oscar and Manny we simply have opposite opinions.
I was there at Ngoudjo-Bailey. I also attended Bute Berrio. The show they put on when Bute made his entrance was crazy!
Bute's entrances rock.
Pavlik-Margarito at 160. (Margs comes in round 156?) would be an amazing fight. Give them a 6 foot ring and give Dan a rain coat at ringside!
I'm actually really excited for Dawson/Tarver. If they fight like they should, I see a possibly trilogy in the making.
I like the fight too, but don't count on a trilogy.
Buy or Sell; A third fight between Jermaine Taylor and Kelly Pavlik could be possible for next year?
Now that the Oscar fight (even though it was never a possibility) is out of the way, will we see Margarito-Clottey II on November 1st?
That fight is not a done deal yet, but they are working on that bout. The Clottey camp told me they want that fight. From what I am told, the Margarito people are willing to do the rematch. Now it comes down to what Top Rank will offer each guy for the fight.
Pavlik-Margarito isn't a far-out-there idea at all... in fact it makes a ton of sense. Margarito is a big welter who could go to 160 easily. Both high activity action fighters, both Arum promoted, etc.
Now that they have agreed to fight I can't see Manny even coming close to winning it will be De la hoya vs Gatti all over again hopefully the knockout loss dosen't completely ruins his career
Oscar may very well win, but Manny is a lot more skilled than Gatti, much faster also.
Did any one in the fightgame give you a birthday present? Any signed boxing gloves? Any loud bellows from Dong King?
Don King did call me and wish me a happy birthday (as I had done for him the previous week). He was talking so loudly my wife could hear him through the phone.
Can people stop using the "Manny started at 106 pounds" excuse for why this isn't a legit matchup? The only reason he started so low was because he was still a teenager. If he turned pro later like American fighters, he would've started at 122 or so.
Any word yet on who some of the Olympic boxers are accepting promotional offers from/talking to?
I've been talking to managers and promoters and several of the Olympians are fielding offers and contemplating pro careers. Over the next few months you will see guys trickle into the pro ranks both from the US team and other countries.
What's the deal w/ Paul Williams fighting at middleweight in Sept?
He is taking a nontitle fight vs TBA at middleweight. It will be on Versus. There are more details on the situation in today's notebook, which should be posted any time now.
We gave Dan an autographed shower door for his birthday.
Any news from TR regarding a potential foe for Mike Alvarado on Oct. 3?
Just for you, I made a quick call to Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman. He says no opponent is set yet, but it could be Jose Antonio Izquierdo.
Do you think DLH/Pac has a chance to break DLH/Mayweather records?
The fight will do a ton of business, but I strongly believe the DLH-Mayweather record is safe.
Do you think a US network will pick up the Julio/Dzinziruk fight?
Anything is possible, but who knows? I would love for it to end up on ESPN Classic or Versus.
Dan, I completely agree with your birthday wish of "More of Tavoris Cloud on television." So when will we see this?
Good question. Nothing in the near future.
Ever seen Mike Jones fight? On Telefutura tonight, legit prospect or pretender?
I have seen Jones. He's a prospect. His promoter, Russell Peltz, is very high on him and taking his time to develop him the right way.
Any word on when Anthony Thompson will be awarded his technical decision victory over Arvin?
Still no word, but for what it is worth the IBO withdrew its recognition of Arvin, who had been given one of the IBO's regional titles after the fight.
Was Edner Cherry a mandatory or did he just get picked by Bradley?
Cherry was picked as an optional defense.
During his next interview, what's the over/under for the number of seconds it takes Floyd Sr. to start bashing Roach? I'm going with 3 at the moment.
Why so long?
If De la Hoya and Hatton fight at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City next May, that would be one of the coolest sporting event atmospheres ever. Oscar's Mexican fans in their capital with Hatton's crazy British fans following him, singing the whole time. Love to see it.
Would be quite a spectacle. At the end of the day, that fight probably winds up in Vegas. It's always about the $.
Versus showing Williams? So, what is the deal with Versus? Are they going to have regular shows? Are they going to have one regular promoter or pick and choose?
Read the notebook when it's up in a little while.
Dan, I know it's impossible to know everything about the sports they covered, but it was still frustrating having to explain to my friends how Oscar-Pacman is a good fight, when the people on Jim Rome is Burning made it seem like Manny had no chance.
Jim Rome is not the place I would go for boxing coverage. Any yam can have an opinion on boxing.
Danno, I read in the Ring this month that someone stole Abraham's IBF belt. Does he get a new one, or is he screwed?
He was given a new belt.
Does HBO plan to do a 24/7 for both De La Hoya-Pacquiao and Calzaghe-Jones? Also will Oscar's new Latin Boxing series be aired on HBO Latino? The press release made it seem like it would only be available in Latin America.
HBO likely will do 24/7 on both fights, but neither has been made official. Oscar's new series is going to air on the HBO network in Latin America. It is possible that Golden Boy will secure some outlet where it will be shown in the US, perhaps HBO Latino.
I have a take on boxing and it doesn't suck!!
I read Meza-Clay may be on the Pavlik/Hopkins undercard. What are the chances that happens?
He is one of two possibile opponents for Luevano on that card, but there is no deal yet.
The only person I trust on ESPN is Dan Rafael and Brian Kenny. The others have no clue about boxing and do not follow the sport. It would be like Dan talking about water polo on national TV!!!
You can trust folks like Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas also!
That is so.............not true My boxing coverage is........PHE-nominal.
If Pacquiao beats De La Hoya, what do you think the chances are that a certain former pound-for-pound #1 will unretire and take on Pacquiao?
I would say anything is possible.
Dan what the ratio so far of haters vs excited for the fight? Mark me stoked!
It seems based on the feedback I received about the fight for the past few weeks that way more people are interested/excited about the fight than those who don't like it.
I really hope Larry Merchant uses his soliloquy before the fight to get in a big "I told you so" to those who laughed at him back in October.
I do too.
Mister Rafael, I know you have thousands of fights on DVD. How do you categorize them? Alphabetically, by decade/year, etc.?
They're all kept track of in a data base and each fight is alphabetized by winner (and by the fighter I like better in the event of a draw) with the DVD or VHS volume number in () next to it.
The notebook is not up on the boxing page. I even just search the espn site with the keyword notebook and Dan Rafael and the last one that show up was Aug 22th. Thanks.
Just relax. It will be up shortly. Patience.
I'm making a You Tube Video right now requesting that Flyod fight Paul Williams on the 6th of Dec. on Showtime, which would completely destroy the DLH/PacMan freak show fight. Mu HA HA HA!!
Go make all the videos you want. It won't mean anything because Oscar-Manny would stomp any fight in its way on that night, including a Mayweather fight. Have fun wasting your time.
Does Lacy-Taylor have a home yet?
Can you please send me a copy of the Vazquez v Marquez trilogy on dvd?
No. If you were a real Freak you would have recorded them as they happened or any of the 1 million replays that have aired on Showtime. You don't deserve one.
Random question Dan. Do you ever get upset when talking t.v. sports heads, praise guys like Tiger Woods for playing Golf hurt. But then fighters like Cotto and margarito that displayed real courage, are brushed aside as just doing their jobs?
Yes. Tiger is a great golfer and athlete, but what kind of courage would he have if he had to take a tee shot with another guy swinging a 3-wood at his head? This guy can't even function if someone is snapping a photo or yelling "you da man!" when he steps into the tee box.
I've heard conflicting reports, will Hopkins-Pavlik be 12 rounds or 10?
It's scheduled for 12.
When is the last time a fighter jumped up 2 weight classes and beat a top opponent in his first fight at the new weight? Leonard over Hagler? Mosley went from 135 right to 147, but he had warmup fights at 147 before beating Oscar.
I frankly dont see the big deal. In the old days, this would be a one division jump when there were no nonsense junior weight divisions.
ESPN should give you a half an hour spot once a week before or after FnF.
Dan, I was under the assumption Mosley-Mayorga was taking place at 154, but when I looked at the promotional poster it was billed as "a night of the welterweight elite." Is this fight taking place at 147? Didn't Mayorga's last fight take place at like 166?
The poster is wrong. The fight is not at 147. False advertising on HBO's behalf or just a horrific error.
Sports Illustrated ranks Tiger the toughest athlete in the world. lol
Is SI still relevent?
Dan the man! Im at school in the library prentending to type my english essay thats due at the end of the day but. I think my librarian is getting suspicious from the fits of laughter I go into when reading the chat!
Dan, you thinking death, taxes and a Calderon decision tomorrow???
Do you believe Oscar will even try to make 147? I don't think he can. He'll probably come in over and just give Manny some money.
Oscar will make the weight, I have no doubt.
Dan, I can watch the Iron Boy fight or the Mijares fight this Saturday (I live close to the border), but I have chosen to watch neither and go to Phx to watch the DBacks-Dodgers series...should be a good one, plus I get to see YOUR BOY ManRam. I don't lose Freak points for that, do I?
Not only do you lose your Freak status, but you're pushing banishment.
Bernard Hopkins jumped from middleweight to light heavyweight to fight Tarver.
Yes, he did and was dominant in doing so.
By the way, for those of you worried about the weight difference between PacMan-ODL, there is a certain unamed heavyweight title(Not Championship) fight this weekend with an 80 pound weight difference!!
Dan, Obviously no one knows what kind of shape Vitali will be in when he faces Peter. But would Vitali of 2004, be the favorite of Sam Peters of 2008?
He probably would have.
Dan is The Amir Khan vs Prescott with Alex Arthur Vs Nicky Cook card next week worth GBP;15 ????it's ppv in the UK or should I keep my cash ???
Since I am big Khan fan and have always loved Arthur's exciting fights, I like the card.
Happy belated b-day dan-o! What weight will pacman want to come in at for DLH?
In talking with Freddie Roach about this topic when I was recently in Las Vegas, he said he would want to see Manny weight in the low 140s. They think it's something of an advantage to them to make Oscar get all the way down to 147.
Any more word on if Cotto fights before the end of the year?
It's unlikely he will fight before the end of the year.
Fact or Fiction. Deontay Wilder is the next great American Heavyweight.
Dan - is it me, or would those Georgia idiots claiming to have had bigfoot in the freezer been better of just kidnapping Valuev and trying to pass him off as the mysterious sasquatch?
Good question. I'll get back to you.
I love the Manny vs. Oscar match! People will say it's a mismatch all they want, but this isn't Oscar from ten years ago and this isn't Manny from ten years ago.
I havent heard anything on Z Gorres in awhile, any news?
On Sept. 9 there is an IBF purse bid for a junior bantamweight eliminator between Gorres and Pramunsak Posuwan.
Dan, any word on what ticket prices will be for the DLH/Pacman fight? I was looking at the tix for DLH/Mayweather and the cheapest I saw were $300. Would you think cheaper or about the same?
I think there is an excellent chance that the cheapest ticket will be less than $300. But tickets have no been officially priced yet. The sides along with MGM officials are working on it. The fight was just made and these are the sorts of logistical things than need to be worked out.
Chill, King Freak! I will be taping BOTH of those fights, for my later delight. Are you sure your judgment is not being affected by the whole ManRam thing?
I need a DVD of the Mijares fight.
I need a DVD of the Mijares fight.
Dan I believe you can vote for fighters eligible for the IBHOF. Lennox is a lock for next year, how about fighters like Micky Ward and Vinny Paz who will also be on the ballot?
I will vote for Lennox as soon as he is on the ballot. Micky Ward was a great action fighter, but has no prayer of being elected. Vinny Paz was a great showman, but I would not vote for him either.
surprisingly, Vitali Klitchko is the betting favorite over Peter for their upcoming fight
That is surprising to me considering he hasn't fought for four years.
Dan any news on David Haye's opponent yet why is it taking so long?? I would love Toney to fight him any chances in that ??
No news on Haye opponent yet other than they are talking to the Rahman people. The fight isn't until mid-November. No rush.
I like the way verus tries to keep boxing on there network still don't understand why they stopped showing legends of the ring
If they have stopped showing those Legends of the Ring shows it is because those belong to Top Rank and once the deal was over, so was Versus' rights to air them.
Danaconda, Happy Friday!!! Assuming a Margarito-Clottey fight can't be made, who else may be a possible opponent for Margarito in November, and does Bob Arum still intend on having Chavez Jr. in the undercard?
I am not sure who else they are even considering. I think the Clottey fight will be made. And, yes, Arum intends to put Chavez Jr. on the card, which is why he scrapped a Chavez headline PPV that was going to be in September.
As a Boxing fan, I WILL NOT criticize DLH for his decision to fight Pacquiao. All boxing should be happy with the fight. HOWEVER, I will criticize DLH until the day he dies if he blows YET ANOTHER BIIIIG oppurtunity to load up a decent undercard for his big fight!!!!
Any picks for next Saturday's fights in H-town? I love Diaz but think he's in a very tough fight. I also wonder if Juarez is turning into a "gate keeper."
I like Diaz but the undercard fight could go either way in my mind. Should be two really good fights. And, by the way -- HBO told me the other day that next weekend is an HBO free preview weekend, so if you don't subscribe to HBO you can still check out the fights (although if you are in this chat and don't have HBO you really should be banned).
Is HBO ever going to do another Legendary Nights series?
They've talked about it and a second series was in the works, but they changed their minds and have put it off. I think at some point we will certainly see a new batch of shows.
Dan, whats going on with Duddy? Is he fighting for a world title next at 154 or 160? Please shed some light on this.
The fight with Verno Phillips at 154 was offered and they were far down the road and looked like there was a deal, but the Duddy camp, from what I am told kept delaying signing the contract, etc... And now it looks dead.
Hey D$ happy late B-DAY I noticed it so happend to land on the same day as mine AUG. 25. Now that thats out of the way i just seen the undercard for B-Hop and the Ghost....just wondering if there is going to be a rematch between luevano and that puertorican fighter? the first fight was a great one!
Luevano will be on that card and it would have been great if it was a rematch with Mario Santiago, but it won't be. Luevano will fight someone else. Maybe down the road we'll see a rematch of that excellent fight.
although there are no immediate plans for Margarito-Williams II, do you see this fight coming to fruition in '09
I'm not sure we'll see the rematch anytime soon because I think Williams only has one or two fights left at welter before he moves up to middleweight to stay.
Hey Dan...Given the fact that Manny has been the "mexicutioner", and that Oscar has never really been embraced by mexicans like a Chavez/Barrera/Morales...would a big win against Manny change his legacy in the eyes of latinos, and would he finally become a "great mexican fighter"?
I'm not sure Oscar will ever be considered by anyone as a "great Mexican fighter," but I think the Mexicans will at least adopt him for this one fight the way they did when he fought Trinidad.
Is Showtime going to show Vitali vs. Peter at the same time as the Dawson vs. Tarver fight?
Same telecast. They'll show Tarver-Dawson live and show the heavyweights on a brief tape delay from Germany.
Dan, I know you stated that Oscar made a consession about the weight of the gloves and that Manny like reyes gloves. Does the weight and brand of the gloves really make much of a difference?
Oscar wanted 10-ounce gloves and Manny wanted 8. I'm not sure that makes a huge difference, but I do think the brand can make a different. I'm not sure what brand they are using (or perhaps they can use whichever brand they want) but if you were to hold, for example, a Reyes glove in one hand and Winning glove in another, there is a HUGE difference. Reyes are hard and sharp. Winning's soft and puffy. I don't like to get hit at all, but I would much rather be hit by someone wearing Winning than Reyes.
If Pacquiao pulls out a miraculous win over ODH, What's more realistic in 2009 -Pacquiao/Hatton or Pacquiao/Mayweather (obviously Floyd comes out of retirement for this one).
I think both would be possible. Hatton has to beat Paulie and F**** would have to unretire, but they're both big.
Dan....do you honestly seeing Pavlik defending his middleweight titles ? I mean we all want to see him fight Abraham but with all the other "big" money fights out there I wonder if he will ever fight at 160 again.
I sort of doubt we'll ever see Pavlik defend his titles again and if he does, certainly not more than one or two more times. And I also have serious doubts we will see him fight Abraham at middleweight.
You mentioned earlier in the chat that Barry Tompkins will be doing the ringside broadcast for the 9/13 PPV on HBO. Why no HBO regulars for that telecast?
HBO is only distributing the PPV, not producing it. When it doesn't produce the telecast, they don't use the HBO announcers.
Dan, would you agree that a Vitali win is the worst thing that could happen to the Hvywt division, as it would preclude a unification fight to determine one true Champ
I have no rooting interest in the fight, but in the big picture, I agree with you. A Vitali win is a disaster for a heavyweight division that is already a mess.
coincidence that Dan & Gene Simmons share a b day?
I think not.
You think if joey Gilbert and Jesse Brinkley fight it will get some TV time? That is a good grudge match.
I couldn't care less about that dreck.
I know the Olympics is over, but man, it sucked seeing Lampley and not hear one thing about boxing come out of his mouth. Not his fault though.
At least he ripped the scoring system.
How laughable is it that I am appearing on PPV?
It's downright pathetic.
You believe Joe C. Wales is really going to retire after the RJJ fight? I don't. Then again, it might be worth to see if he breaks his hand at the retirement press conference or gets hurt some other way.
Am I a mind reader? You know what I think about boxers' retirements and their announcements.
Nobody on me cares about Gilbert vs. Brinkley either.
Dan - I dont think Manny beating Oscar would be considered miraculous. Manny stands a fairly good chance of beating Oscar don't you think?
NOTEBOOK IS UP!
Dan, I think one of the best aspects of the coverage of Olympic Boxing, was how well they contrasted to the rest of the Olympic Coverage on NBC. They were the only ones that consistantly spoke their opions, particularly when it came to China getting some ridiculous decisions.
That is an excellent point.
Dan, take 5.
LOL. Now is a good time for me to go and refresh my beverage.
I disagree about Vitali winning being a disaster. Wlad already beat Peter and he's beaten everyone else. I really don't see a need for unification right now.
You don't see a need for the heavyweight division to be unified? Then I don't see a need for you to remain in this chat. And since my man Banishment is undoubtedly hungry, you are BANNED!
All this talk about birthdays, from reading the notebook you need to help your son get a better promoter for his birthday. Taking about $50k less for no TV exposure and flying to hostile turf...Ouch!
Not ouch, Stupid.
After reading the Notebook, I think The Love Child is due much more than the normal grounding.
Come Here Billy Boy
I am an OFFICIAL HATER I dont like Oscar/Manny I dont like Margarito (over rated) and I dont particulary like you Dan
Good because I don't like you either and I hope you have a crappy weekend.
does dlh-pac come close to 2 million buys?
I don't think so. I'm thinking in the 1.2 to 1.5 million range.
Dan - I think that Manny slaps oscar around the ring, he may not have pure power but he has som sharp stinging punches that will make oscar's face look like mincemeat at the end of round 12.
Nice Notebook: Arreola on HBO on 11/29. Same telecast at Haye?
No because Haye is not slated for HBO.
Manny is a beast, a straight up savage. why don't people give him a good chance of winning despite his smaller frame?
A lot of people do give him a good chance.
Danno! Just wondering your overall thoughts on Joan Guzman? Because I am a huge fan, maybe I am not being realistic.
He's an excellent boxer and a ton of talent. He's just been too inactive. But I think because of his skills he's the favorite to outbox Campbell.
Whatsup Dan, Do you think Pacquiao will still be agressive and put pressure on Oscar or will he be running around cause of the size advantage?
Manny is going to have to find a way to get inside Oscar's jab. But Manny is fast and I'm sure Freddie will devise a plan to help him do that.
Can we get your analysis for the Valuev-Ruiz fight?
Big guy vs. short guy. Big guy's turf. Big guy wins.
Dan, I wonder what Banishment looks like. Maybe the Rancor from Return of the Jedi?
I thnk that's him. Either the Rancor or maybe the Wampa (before he had his arm cut off).
Dan I think we both know that JMM is going to send Joel C. into retirement!Agree?
First, De La Hoya says margarito should avenge his loss to paul williams and refused to fight him, then there's talk of a margarito/clottey rematch. Is margarito really ducking williams or just moving on?
How is Margarito ducking Williams? They fought a year ago. Williams lost since then, although he gained revenge. Margarito just fought a huge, grueling fight. And now he's going to fight a rematch of a competitive bout to unify belts. How is that a duck?
What is the incentive to remain an amature boxer fighting in the Olympics?
Well if you are from certain places you get a big stipend to remain amateur and have all of your daily needs taken care of.
I always pictured bashishment as the Sarlaac pit...trust me it's no picnic in there!
What's next for Larry "The Legend" Donald?
Are you serious? If you are, seek professional help. Quickly.
Do you watch FNF, or only the big shows w/celebrities in the crowd?
I watch everything.
Is it just me or does this weekend's PPV look way more attractive then it should just because of the lack of pro boxing for the last month?
Yo Dan! Any chance of Mackey Shilstone in pacman's camp??
Not that I am aware of but I thought the other day he might be good for Manny to train with.
Who ya got...HBK or Jericho at Unforgiven?
I am psyched for that match. Can't see HBK possibly losing that one.
Do you have any idea of who Cotto's next opponent will be? I've been hearing Cintron but I don't know how reliable my sources are.
Cotto is not fighting Cintron any time soon. Cintron has another fight to take care of in November.
If somehow Manny dominates DLH... You think he's tempted to stay at 147?
You never know, but I would think he would go back to at least 140 where there would be some good money fights.
Dan, from now on you have give people the sweet chin music then send them inot banishment.
I prefer the Tombstone.
I may get nominated for banishment, but am I the only one who does not have a big problem with Casamayor/JMM, Forrest?Mora being PPV? Of course, I'd rather watch it free, but there are many worse PPV's every year...
I agree. It's not the best ppv and it's not the worst.
Watching Gatti v Robinson and Jim Lampley is the best. 'Oh! what drama!'. I just love that guy. Between that, the 'It happened!' and the 'Maskaev knocks Rahman through the ring! Right next to me! Right next to me!' he's my favorite announcer. Though Emmanuel Steward in Toney v Jirov fight is a close second. What about you Dantasm?
I've always said Lampley was the best. He has more memorable calls of dramatic moments than anyone.
What should Berto do after he beats Forbes?
Fight a real welterweight like a Collazo or a Judah or a Mosley.
well i hope De La Hoya fights again on May 5th and takes on Margarito ! that would just be the greatest fight to retire with and he can pass the torch to Margarito
I'd love to see that fight.
Here's to hoping Meza-Clay is on the undercard. I thought his fight on ESPN2 was one of the most exciting of the year and he has a really smart, aggressive style.
We have breaking news from the BAT PHONE.
Luevano will be facing Billy Dib, NOT Meza-Clay. Sorry.
Being that Manny has so many big money fights out there, and JMM is getting up there in age, what kind of chances do you give that we see another Pac-JMM fight?
I think it's certainly possible. Other than Oscar and Hatton (and maybe F**** if he comes back), Marquez is Pacman's biggest opponent.
Who is the baddest man on the plant?
I'd have to say Triple H.
Mr. Rafael, with the last nomination of Dantasm, you have just supplanted or current rcord holder for most nicknames in the world!! A whopping 978 678 942. We forecast you topping the million nickname mark in late November. Congrats
I will crush you. Then I will make you shave me slowly, very slowly...
I'm not sure if I am supposed to be aroused or disgusted by that last comment.
Any word on the negotiations for Klitschko-Povetkin?
Not sure how they are going, but if they don't make a deal the IBF has ordered a Sept. 16 purse bid.
what do you think of dib's last fight
I did see his fight in March and I have seen others on tape and in person. I'd rather watch John Ruiz. I'm serious.
Hi Dan, have you seen bantamweight prospect Martin Lindsay who is based in Canada, if you have, what do you think of him..
Never seen him. Never heard of him.
Look people Manny IS NOT BEATING DLH, I agree that Pac Man is a beast at 130/135 and possibly at 140, but at 147, and fighting im a sure a determinded DLH, no way, DLH is going to have his way with him BIG TIME.
The Earth, The UK, and Ricky Hatton belong to this category... for $100
What is something there is only one of?
Speed kills and Manny has that in spades. I see Manny winning a close decision.
OK, Freaks, thanks for the chat. Hope you enjoy the fights this weekend either on FNF or on the PPV if you're buying. Check out the new notebook and I'll chat with you next week. Peace.
