Howdy Mr. Garrow! Can you please narrow my selections down to the standard yahoo 2,4,2 format in the respective groupings? A - 07,11,20,24,29,48 B - 1,6,8,9,12,18,88 C - 02,15,28,66,84

Mark Garrow
  (4:02 PM)

11 and the 29 or 07...B) 18,88,9,8..C)84,28...but might want 44 if he's in there too.

Michael (Landover, Md)

Good afternoon Guru. I have a very simple and basic question that I think alot of fans ask themselves from time to time. Why are practice times for each race weekend not scheduled for the time of day and the track conditions that the race will be under. For example, if the cup race is going to be run at night why is it that teams are forced to practice during the day when the track conditions are not even close to how they will be during the race. We are told over and over that there is a fine line for this car when it comes to nailing the set up. Yet week after week the tracks (or Nascar) schedule the practices at times when the track is nowhere near how it will be during the race. and we wonder why it seems like only a few cars hit the setup each week. Seriously mark, Why is every effort not made to have practice times mirror the race time?? I understand that the Nationwide race sometimes could interfere with this effort but in my opinion that needs to be changed to allow for better Cup races. Perfect example...this weekend in Richmond we have a night race with daytime practices. Your thoughts?

Mark Garrow
  (4:05 PM)

Michael, that's one of the biggest complaints these guys have..because you're absolutely right it's becomes at times more of a guessing game..Remember though these guys have mountains of old notes on what they've done in the past with certain track temps, time of day etc...that helps them a lot..I also think this is why NASCAR is going to change it's testing policy next year and allow teams to test on the actdual tracks they'll race..and if given that chance a lot of the teams will try to practice at the same time of day they'll be racing...Now as to why the schedules are the way they are now..to get right teams would have to come in a day earlier and that's a cost and expense NASCAR doesn't want to see them hit with.

Tex (Enigma, TN)

Red Bull has not resigned the "Dinger" for 2009?!? Does that mean Scott Speed is getting that ride? Or is Team Red Bull hedging bets and waiting to see how the "Dinger" finishes out the season? If Red Bull keeps the "Dinger" in Cup, what does that mean for Scott Speed next year? thanks Guru, you are the best!

Mark Garrow
  (4:07 PM)

Super Tex...Red Bull could very well be ready to start a third team..but the fact "Dinger" hasn't heard anything yet about this deal for 2009 has to be a warning sign they might want to replace himn with Speed. That would be a shame because Allmendinger is getting this thing figured out, he really is.

Jason:Alabama

Hello Mark; thanks for the help last week;got 788 on my scc;i had 48,11,17,9,84(dropped 99 for the 11); for richmond what about this team; 29,11,07,9,84 or 29,11,20,2,84 or 29,11,07,8,84. Thanks for all the help.

Mark Garrow
  (4:09 PM)

Jason, 788..very impressive...I like the third team a little bit better..all three pretty good..but I think 8 out runs teh 2 or the 9 with Martin back behind the wheel.

Kyle (WV)

Hey Mark. Would you find it acceptable for carl edwards to allow ragan to pass him on the last lap of saturday's race if it would put ragan in? or vise versa with say harvick and bowyer?

Mark Garrow
  (4:11 PM)

Absolutely man and no one would expect or should expect anything else. It might rub some people as being unfair...but with the amount of money sponsors put up you want your guy in...AND..imagine what kind of problems you'd have as teammates if you were the one that blocked him from getting into the chase..that would certainly spice up the team meetings don't you think?..lol.

Bob,Columbus,Ohio

What drivers will be just riding around this week? Seemed like Stewart and Burton were last week.

Mark Garrow
  (4:12 PM)

I think everyone will pretty much be hitting it pretty hard this week..top 11 are pretty much assured a spot in the Chase..only Bowyer, Ragan and Kahne on the hot seat..without much to lose and ten bonus points to gain I just don't see a lot of "cruising".

Rich (Saint peters, mo.)

2 Wins in the last 2 weeks....Thanks Guru.....I need to pick 1 driver in the top 5, 1 driver 6th thru 10th and 1 outside the top ten. I was leaning towards 18,29,11...what do you think?

Mark Garrow
  (4:13 PM)

You're welcome...I like you're number Rich..I think you could hit the lottery..

Billy (TN)

All Hail the All Knowing-All Seeing Guru, Please rank these and thanks for your weekly insight, 29,11,20,24 then 8,12,9,1,6 and last 28,15,44,84 Thanks

Mark Garrow
  (4:15 PM)

11,29,24,20...9,8,12,1,6...84,44,28,15...First group all four in really good shape..Second group feel pretty good about everyone but 6..In third group..Have 84 first but will be keeping a close eye on 44..Reutimann is really coming on and might wind up the top "budget" pick for Richmond.

Geoge (DC)

will anyone change thier strategery based on chase positions this weeK?

Mark Garrow
  (4:17 PM)

I think the only guys that have to go for brokes are Bowyer, Kahne, and Ragan..They'll throw everything at it..others will try to do their normal deal.

Big Mama (Yazoo City)

Denny "Hambone" Hamlin will win this week. Mark it down. I also see a top 5 for Clint "Rawhide" Bowyer.

Mark Garrow
  (4:17 PM)

No big arguements from me Big Mama.

Justin (Sacramento)

i am curious about the 88 and 31 this week. can they get it going at richmond?

Mark Garrow
  (4:19 PM)

I definitely think the 88 can..I believe he can run top-five..As for Burton, I can see him maybe running top-10.

Joanie, somewhere in NC

Hey Mark, you are the one-and-only True Guru where I am concerned, the only columnist I read! And, with your help, I am flying in the leagues where it counts - if it gets much better, I'll have to ask you the name of your favorite charity so I can make a donation in your name....now, I've been falling off in low level picks and its starting to hurt. Right now, how would you rank these five: 44, 28, 84, 66, 15 for this weekend. Many thanks!

Mark Garrow
  (4:20 PM)

Thanks for the kind words..84,44,28,66,15

scott, alabama

hi guru which two would you pick out of 29-31-07-24-48-11-20-17-99 thanks for your time

Mark Garrow
  (4:20 PM)

11 and 29...maybe 07

Mark Garrow
  (4:20 PM)

11 and 29...maybe 07

ray gordoN REID RALEIGH NC 27695

question to MARK GARROW AT 4.05 PM HI MARK WHO;IT GONNA SATURDAY 99 CARL EDWARDS 0R 48 JIMMY JOHNSON

Mark Garrow
  (4:21 PM)

Ray Gordon Reid, sorry man..neither of these two guys will win Saturday.

Joey Logano (richmond,virginia)

How come im not in the SCC? Dont you know i play SCC and will pick myself this week at richmond. Im a top 10 fo sho.

Mark Garrow
  (4:22 PM)

Yo Sliced Bread...You're dreaming ..wake up...The big boys are going to rock your world.

Henry (san diego, florida)

I was about to change my SCC lineup and I couldent find joey logano or his price. Will he be avaliable this week(what price) or do I have to look elsewhere?

Mark Garrow
  (4:24 PM)

Henry..sorry about that..I'll need to check on that..that's not my "domain" so I'll have to find the right person to get you fixed up.

Eric (Wautoma, WI)

Hey Guru!...I won my weekly pick em league last week with Biffle and Vickers...$25 in my pocket...Picking 10th & 11th this week...Any ideas for who to pick at those positions?....Also, my SCC team last week scored a whopping 791 points...My best week ever...I have 99, 48, 29, 17 & 84....Think that is good enough to leave alone for the rest of the season??...I have Kenseth locked in at 18. something...Thanks Guru!!

Mark Garrow
  (4:26 PM)

Way to go Eric...I think you will do okay in the next two races at least with that line-up..but I might want to swap 18 for 99 at Richmond...48 hasn't been all that great there either..

Rick (CA)

Hi Mark. Do you think the problem with Hamlin or Harvick going for the win this week is their place in the Chase point standings, esp. Hamlin? That he'll points race to play it safe? Same with other drivers in the 12th place area.

Mark Garrow
  (4:29 PM)

Rick, I think the safest place for Hamlin and Harvick is out front...clean air..a flagman helping to clear the slower race cars...I think Hamlin and Harvick are both far enough ahead to go for it..Bowyer is the guy caught between the rock and hard place..He's going to have to push it..but not too hard with the two guys breathing down his neck, Ragan and Kahne, going for broke.

mike (LA, CA)

youve got jr 5th in rankings - ive seen no signs of him turning things around yet ... this "slump" is getting lengthy ...

Mark Garrow
  (4:30 PM)

He loves Richmond, has won there before AND he had another potential win taken away back in May..Junior gets right Saturday night.

slick rick

top 5 1.11 2.18 3.29 4.88 5.02 is logano in the SCC driver pool, i cant find him

Mark Garrow
  (4:31 PM)

Logano fifth? You're crazy man..lol...as for geting him posted I just sent an e-mail to commish to a value posted for Joey.

cactus jack (santa fe)

any big differences between this race the spring race?

Mark Garrow
  (4:32 PM)

Track will be a little bit different, but there should no major differences..

mike (LA, CA)

how will joey "sliced bread" lagano fare in his first outing?

Mark Garrow
  (4:33 PM)

A top-20 with four fenders would be nice for him..top-15 might take a lot of prayer..

JC (rancho crodova, ca)

if i am look ing at 29 and 07, how much weight does the 07's chase position matter? i understand he will go for broke, but dont they do that every week?

Mark Garrow
  (4:34 PM)

They don't necessarily go for broke every week and I don't think Bowyer goes for broke this week..unless 9 and 6 are running top-10..then Bowyer will have to throw caution to the winds.

Felipe, Dallas

Hey Mark, any chance Montoya leaves Ganassi soon???? I'm a huge JPM fan and it is so frustrating seeing him with such a bad team!!!

Mark Garrow
  (4:36 PM)

Sorry Felipe..he doesn't appear to be getting ready to go anywhere..Some of JPM's problems might be of his own doings..A crew member told me JPM isn't putting in the kind of work an Edwards, Busch or Johnson are putting in to get on top and stay there.

Mark Garrow
  (4:39 PM)

Is that it today folks?

josh (pc)

the question i have i cant find anywhere! so what spots do the drivers need to finish in to make the chase? biffle just needs to start so what do the other drivers need to do thanks.

Mark Garrow
  (4:42 PM)

Josh..if you've never been to this website you'll love it..go to jayski.com...hit the button in the left hand rail for Cup Series news..and he's got it all laid out perfect..

JJ (el paso)

i need a lower level guy. kvapil, reutiman, regan smith, someone else?

Mark Garrow
  (4:42 PM)

I think Reutimann or Allmendinger might be your best bets in that regard this weeke.

josh

i go there all the time.

Mark Garrow
  (4:44 PM)

Great..well today he posted all the different scenerios and I think that will be what you're looking for.

Kyle: (Taylorsville, KY)

Having a hard time with yahoo B picks this week. Choose 4 out of 18, 88, 8, 6, 9, and 1. Thanks for the help in advance. I don't trust Newman like you do.

Mark Garrow
  (4:45 PM)

Kyle I feel pretty good about 18,88,8, and 9...take them and then tap someone on the shoulder and say "show me the money!"

josh (pc)

since bowyer will be in the 33 next year does he lose his crew chief? if so isnt that kind of dumb considering the cemistry they have?

Mark Garrow
  (4:46 PM)

I don't think Richard Childress has settled on what he's going to be doing yet totally next season...he just might have the 07 guys just change into 33 shirts..because of exactly what you're talking about..

Mark Garrow
  (4:48 PM)

Well folks since there's nothing else ...I'll be signing off but remember our race day chat coming up Saturday from Richmond at 4:30 eastern...catch you then.

mike (LA, CA)

mark - small crowd today? guess everyone is focused on football for the moment - im juggling both my question - im trying to decide between the 6 and the 12 as my last pre-qualifying option in yahoo group B (im using 18,9,8 - then narrow from 4 drivers to 2 after qualifying) - i know newman has a good track record here, but he just hasnt been finishing well and ragan has much more to shoot for ... any thoughts? thanks!

Mark Garrow
  (4:51 PM)

It's a tough call because Ragan keeps rising to the occasion..but I just don't see him doing much or better than Newman...He did finish third in this race last year but other finishes 20 and 17..Newman a little more consistent...but say this for Ragan...He will drive every lap like there is no tomorrow and that has to count for something..I'm rooting for Ragan, but little birdie in my head says he won't make it to the finish pushing as hard as he'll have to..At least that's my thought right now..could change on race day.

Mark Garrow
  (4:52 PM)

Again, catch everybody race day..4:30 eastern Saturday..from Richmond..The "Guru" has left the building..
