Good morning, gang. We're ready for your fantasy Q's. All topics welcome, though with Week 1 under our belts, we're sure football will be at the forefront. Let's get started shall we?
Yo AJ, should I drop Mendenhall for Eddie Royal?
Usually, the rookie WR isn't a great pickup, and I'd like to see how he does once Brandon Marshall rejoins the team this week, but yes, Royal will be the team's No. 2 and clearly has the skillz.
I own Turner and Bush and want to trade 1 for a QB (i had Brady) - who is the better "sell-high" option to get rid of?
You're not dealing from a place of strength, Noah. Brady owners who didn't have a Plan B are at the mercy of the rest of the league. You're going to have to pay what your leaguemates are willing to take.
How do you feel about Sammy Morris going forward as an RB2 in PPR league?
He looked good, but remember that Faulk was suspended and may eat into those receptions. I'd wait and see before diving in.
Stewart, D. Williams, or MaGahee this week?
Williams. I like McGahee to get better numbers if he were healthy, but since I'm not even sure he's getting any carries (way to go, Coach!) I will go with the surer bet.
Especially if Faulk gets the munchies...
Whatsup AJ, do u project either ricky williams, devin hester, and/or ray rice to be fantasy worthy anytime soon?
Rice is saddled by lack of opportunity, once Willis is back. Hester is saddled by the fact the Bears O is not all that good, Forte notwithstanding. Williams is fantasy worthy as a flex in certain situations, but not as a No. 1.
So I got teased a little when when ESPN said Jay Cutler threw for 300 yards which gave me extra points that I needed to win my fantasy matchup, but all of the sudden it said he only got 299 yards passing and because he took a knee at the end only 9 yards rushing, which caused me to lose another point and I lost my fantsasy matchup 99-98. Is there anything I can do?
Man up and deal with it. Many a fantasy matchup has even been lost on the "two-step kneel" versus the "one-step kneel" -- that's even harder to take. But the stats are not negotiable.
AJ, what's your take on the Denver RB scenario after watching week 1? Any one worth starting at this point?
Is any one ever? Denver is always going to run the ball well... but which guy gets the bulk of the work in Week 1, Week 2, Week 10, Week 13? Nobody knows.
I can't trust Hasselbeck anymore. I'm dropping Burleson, but should I pick up Pennington (brutal schedule), Huard or Collins until Branch/Engram get healthy?
Huard to Bowe could get you some points. I actually think that Collins is a better fit in Tennessee than VY, but those receivers are nothing special.
It might be too early in the week, but would you recommend starting Barber and Felix Jones on Monday night? I started Jonathan Stewart and Lendale White this past week, so Jones would take one of their spots.
I'd start Barber for sure. By Friday, you'll know better if the ribs are a legit factor and can swap out for Jones. I wouldn't start both - White could have an OK day.
AJ Please Help!!! What do you think of Matt Cassel? I need QB help. Who would you drop to pick him up out of Kevin Walter, Ray Rice, and Desean Jackson.
I think Cassel will be in the 15-20 range of QBs. Those weapons aren't any different. Moss and Welker will help tons. But I bet you could get a better QB by trading Jackson today, before the big boys return.
Whats your take on teams dumping all thier players once they've been eliminated from the playoffs? This is my first year playing fantasy baseball and now I feel like I spent all that making trades and picking up players for nothing cause my opponents are just going to pick up this team's "studs."
Teams eliminated from the playoffs should not be allowed to make pickups or drops. The LM should correct these bush league actions.
Who'll be Burlson's replacement???
Hopefully, Branch is healthy enough to give it a try in Week 2. If not, my prediction... Payne!
Better option next week Baltimore D (vs Houston) or KC D (vs Oakland)?
I'd go with KC. Russell looked sad out there.
Baseball Q: can only start one tonight...Kazmir vs BOS or Dempster vs STL? Thanks!
I'd avoid the Rays versus Boston. The pressure of that series looks like its getting to them.
The Rams offense looked awful last weekend. In a 12 team league, I have SJax, McFadden, Thomas Jones, Matt Forte, and Chris Johnson as my running backs. I'm seriously considering benching Jackson against the Giants for Johnson against Cincinnati. Am I crazy?
You're not crazy... but I'd still take my chances with SJax. I think he gets 100 combined yards.
Need OF help in all categories besides SB. Who do you prefer: Werth, Lind, N. Cruz? thanks
Werth is an absolute monster of late and with Jenkins out, shouldn't lose any at-bats the rest of the way.
Is Delhomme an every week starter? Like him better than Garrard or Hesselbeck?
Yes he is.. and he's only going to get better in Week 3 when Mr. Smith gets back.
Would you deal Moss and Palmer for Cutler and Wayne?
I'd certainly consider it with the way Royal looked on MNF2... but I've always liked Cutler, since the Vandy days. But I don't think you worry about Moss going into the toilet w/out Brady. That's not why I'd do it.
Who should I start this week Bowe or Evans.....Mcnabb or Romo
We like Romo over McNabb in the head-to-head (though McNabb may well get more yards - Romo more TDs) and so help me, Evans over Bowe.
Hit the panic button on Garrard?
No, as Del Rio said, it's just one game. If the line is as porous in Week 2, I'd fret a bit.
You fantasy guys get SO wrapped up in hype. Matt Cassel is a top 20 QB!? Are you kidding me? The guy is a career backup who looked awful in the preseason, most people think Guitierrez is better. At least give the guy a couple of weeks before you call him top 20!
It's not hype... he'll put up better numbers than Tarvaris or Flacco or Ryan or Rodgers or even Favre most weeks b/c the system is built around the pass.
Give up on Chris Cooley?
Not at all. It was one game, against a good defense that really knows the Skins well. He'll be fine.
Out of Roddy White (vs TB), Patrick Crayton (vs Philly) and Jerricho Cotchery (vs NE) who deserves the start at WR this week?
Cotchery is the best bet of the three. Crayton will get his yards thanks to TO and Witten getting attention, but I'd go with Jerricho.
hasslebeck vs. san fran or cutler vs. san diego??
Cutler. It's a bit closer if Branch does return, but even then, Cutler.
Is Dante Rosario worth a pick-up?
Tight end is one of those positions where you either have a solid guy or you don't. If you have a T-Gonz or Gates or KWII or Witten, you're golden. If not, you're always rotating guys in and hoping for the best. If you've rolling the dice anyways, he couldn't hurt... but it's a week to week fingers crossed affair.
Whoa whoa whoa... As a pats fan saying Cassel will outperform Rodgers or Favre seems a bit much. If he is as good as Trent Edwards I think the pats will take that. With 4 decent RBs, don't you think they'll run more?
It's simply a numbers thing with Cassel - throwing to Moss eight times a game will yield more yards than Rodgers, handing it off 30 times to Grant against the Lions. Belichick strikes me as the stubborn type, no? He'll run or pass at a level befitting the weakness of the foe, and not worry about Cassel versus Brady.
In case the Barbarian is out this week which 2 rb's would you start. Edge, Forte, C.Johnson, or K.Smith?
I'd sit Edge. Kolby Smith didn't even dress in Week 1 - no thanks.
Is grabbing players who have double headers scheduled, a viable strategy?
If you aren't worried about batting average, wouldn't you rather have 8 shots at a HR/RBI rather than 4?
I'm sure Grant against DET is a must start. But do I dare bench Portis for Turner as my RB2? No flex :(
I'd ride the hot hand with Turner. No, he's not getting 200+ yards, but another 100 yard day isn't out of the question, even if it's a grind it out, 25-100 day.
I have Didier Drogba in my ESPN league. Will he be able to step right in and start scoring immediately or do you think there will be an Olympic hangover for Drogba? Also, is Samir Nasri for real?
I'm sure there are some who may wonder if Chelsea or Arsenal will have the better 11 this year, but my expertise does not travel well across the pond. I just root for Fulham b/c of all the Yanks.
Quit calling me Kolby.
Ah, the dangers of initials.... Lions passing too much in a come from behind capacity.
Hey AJ! I have #1 waiver this week, but don't need QB help, should I grab Cassel anyway and try to trade him or perhaps take a flier on Pittman and drop LaMont Jordan??? Thanks!
Depends on your league -- if they will trade with you, then by all means see if you can get a better RB than Pittman in a Cassel deal, especially from Brady's owner. But if vetos abound, or nobody wheels and deals, then you're better off doing what's best for YOUR roster.
In the year so many EXPERTS wrote to drop RB RB draft strategy, the number 1 non-RB they encouraged you to take in Round 1 gets injured in about 5 minutes. Your thoughts?
And if LDT broke his ankle Week 1, we wouldn't have been any more right. It's about the concept, smartypants.
Should I start Thomas Jones or Chris Johnson this week?
I go with CJ over TJ... nothing crippled the NE D.
Would u rather start De.Jackson or Bowe this week as a flex? Huard and Bowe seem to have something special lol
I'd go with Bowe, actually... Jackson hasn't seen a MNF crowd on the road yet.
any word on the mcfadden injury? Fargas a must add?
They're saying a "stinger" which should mean he'll be fine... but that also means a good likelihood of a repeat injury. I'd certainly want Fargas.
I was offered A. Boldin for Felix Jones. I need a WR. It is a no-brainer, right?
I think so. Jones is going to be a nice vulture, but unless Barber breaks a few more ribs, Boldin will outscore him more weeks than not.
So if you like Chris Johnson more than Thomas Jones, do you like Matt Forte more than Thomas Jones as well?
I do, but it's not really a knock on Thomas Jones. It's just the teams and matchups for Week 2.
Who would you rather have on your team, T. Holt or Brandon Marshall?
Marshall... especially if he now has a legit partner to take the heat off.
Zito going forward...yea or nay?
Holt will be a stud right?
He'll be OK, but with Bennett out, somebody else better step up to help him... Avery? Burton? Hall? It's not pretty.
Hey AJ....who dou you think will take the #2 WR spot for the Saints...Meacham, Henderson or Patten?
Meachem has the best talent, but I think Patten holds him off, at least for the near future. I'm leery of Devery.
Hey of these three in a PPR league who would you start; Marvin Harrison, Lee Evans, or Hines Ward
I'd start Marvin. Colts will throw more than Pitt or Buffalo.
AJ, Do I give Palmer another chance this week or go with Schuab against the same BLT D? I also have A Johnson to go with Schuab. THX
I'd go with Palmer, as I hate to double dip against a good D.
Worries about Joey Addai? My thinking is Jeff Saturday is so vital to that offense that with Peyton having a short pre-season we can't expect the numbers we should be getting until October.
It's a legit concern. People usually underestimate the loss of an O-lineman. Plus, Addai has a history of not taking hits well.
is it time to sell on Reggie Bush while his value is high?
I think this is the Bush we will see more weeks than not.
BUZZER BEATER: Is Alge Crumpler a bust this year in PPR?
I think he'll be a lot better with KC than VY. Let's put it that way.
should we be worried about ocho cinco?
I didn't see him anywhere on the field... they had this Johnson guy in there.
morgan gage or d.jackson..???
I'd go D. Jackson of that trio.
Pick 2: MJD, Jacobs, Turner
Nice decision to have - if you are PPR, then sit Jacobs. Otherwise, sit Drew.
Thanks gang. I am out of time for today. Appreciate the Q's as always... TMR up at 3pm. We'll see you the next time, on VIlla Allegre!
