Hey David, is there any news on Scott Riggs and 2009 season? Could he go to the #41 for Ganassi?
Never thought I'd start a chat with a Scott Riggs question. As for his future, he's talked with several teams and Ganassi is one of them. He's the best drive available in my opinion. Unless Ganassi is looking to bring back A.J. Foyt or Mario Andretti Riggs isn't a bad pick.
whats up david, my boy JJ is getting hot just like last year. I hear they are pretty prepared for the chase but my big concern is Dega, he has been wrecked in all 3 restrictor plate races this year, do you think he will survive Dega this year and if he does do you think he will succeed at all of the other tracks? i mean he has a win on almost all of them except kansas and miami.
I believe I've been consistent in picking him to win a third straight title. You are right, Dega is a survival test, but Jimmie has proven he can bounce back from adversity more than once. Enjoy the ride. We could be seeing history.
Hey Fig, other than 18,99, and 48, who is the biggest threat to win the chase. Also who is the least favorite?
Never said I answered to Fig when the topic came up last week. Anyway, keep an eye on Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart. They both have a chance they wouldn't have under the old points format and have the teams to take advantage of it.
What's wrong with Jeff this year? The cars, his crew, himself? He's off (albeit still top 10)
He's off, but not by such a wide margin that if they hit on something he can't make a run at the title. His biggest problem, so he says, is getting a feel for the cars with the bump stops.
Do think jeff gordon can keep his streak of a victory a year alive or do you think his team should be looking ahead to getting things figured out for next year even though he is in the chase.
It's hard to believe he's g one this long without a win, but I believe he'll get one before all is said and done. And he often gets them in bunches, so watch out if he gets one.
I read when Nationwide cars go to a COT, they won't use the bump stops, but stick with the springs. Will that make for better racing?
It depends on who you ask. Some Cup crew chiefs prefer the bump stops, others the springs. It's all a matter of feel for the driver.
Whos your pick to win this weekend, i'm going with Hamlin(flat track master) or Jeff Gordon because he was actually having a solid run here in the summer race
Good picks. Hard not to put Kyle Busch or Jimmie Johnson in there. Johnson's team has won two straight and Kyle might have won last week had Junior not gotten revenge. Oh, I'm sorry, it was an accident. Right.
who's winless streak goes on the longest.. the 20 or the 24?
I'll go with the 20.
How do I finish the season? depressed and downed because i didnt make the chase, or do I get revenge and get a w in the chase?
You were happy to have a chance last week. What happened?
Jimmie johnson is going to win his 3rd straight cup
Think I've said that a few hundred times.
If cowishaw and garrow were nascar drivers, who would they be?
Kyle Petty and Morgan Shepperd. Back of the field or not in it at all.
haha to kyle last week. Revenge is sweet, go 88!
I believe it was revenge as well, no matter what Earnhardt says. His final comment about how ironic it was seemed to smell like the kid who played innocent while the rest of his friends got in trouble for something he did.
What's Dick Trickle up to these days? God I hope he's not dead or this is in bad taste...
I haven't talked to him in a few years. Last I heard he was enjoying life in North Carolina.
if logano makes the race, where do you see him finishing? he looked strong in practice at richmond before the rain out
Top 15. He's got a top 10 car for sure.
how do think OSU pass and runing game will hold up against the defense of USC, and with OSU main go to guy coming off a two week injury to think is going to be any change of mometum going into this game either team
USC will roll. I wasn't all that impressed with Ohio State last week.
did you watch lettermen, whats your take
I do watch Letterman from time to time. Not a Leno guy. My take on what?
Does NASCAR need to cut down on the tracks that get 2 races and expand to places like New Orleans?
I'd love a race in New Orleans. One of my favorite cities in the country to dine. And there are a few places i'd like to see lose a race, but NASCAR is pretty set in its ways. And there are other places, such as New York and the Washington area, that seem to be a bigger priority.
I know logano has the hype, but i hate to ask this because he probably has a boat load of fans who will hate me for it but do you think that cup right now and next year full time might be a bit much too early for the young man? Remember Atwood and all the next jeff gordon hype, do you think that might be the case with Logano since he is being pushed into it pretty early on in his career?
Logano has far more going for him than Atwood. He'll live up to the hype. Never seen an 18-year-old so mature.
last night's top 12 list
You know, I missed that one. Forgot the drivers were there. Fill me in.
i heard that several tracks are cutting down their ticket prices. I'm probably not lucky enough to have the richmond tickets slashed with the popularity of their races am i?
They are cutting the prices of some tickets. Not sure you've noticed, but there haven't been many sellouts this season. Even Richmond had its streak broken.
Do you think Tim Tebow will win the Heisman Trophy this year or will another "Superstar Player" win it?
Tebow has a strong team behind him and the reputation already, so if he has a strong season you'd have tomake him the favorite even if somebody puts up better numbers.
why can't the final 2 in the top 12 go to NYC
NASCAR seems to think this builds some drama having drivers racing to make the top 10 and get to N.Y. Not.
David Newton : (2:12 PM ET ) Top 15. He's got a top 10 car for sure. so should i pick him up for the chase on my SCC team ?
Not sure I would go that far, but I'd pick him over a couple of guys in the Chase. Not sayin who, though.
they were on letterman, the top 12 was on the top 12 perks of being a nascar driver. you should try to find it.
Can't leave the chat site to look now. Give me a preview.
I was just curious if you knew whether or not Bowyer ever apologized for his remarks about Michael Waltrip during the Bristol race. Lol that was funny and probably somewhat true.
Never heard an apology. I don't think the accident was theonly reason he said that.
David, Have you been able to find out anymore about the alleged gm-ford hybrid engines in the Toyotas? Great information from you by the way.
Sorry, but not. Bottom line, there's not the advantage people think. The advantage for Toyota was in Nationwide.
any chance the blue duece gets things going during the chase?
I wouldn't bet on it.
any word on newmans sponsorship plans? and is borland going to be his crew chief? what do you expect from newman next year
Nothing new. And if Borland were going to be his crew chief I'm guessing he already would be named.
Will Kevin Harvick finally be able to break the winless steak and make some noise in the chase and do any of the RCR drivers have a shot?
I still like Bowyer of all the RCR drivers, but Harvick has been on a roll with six straight top 10s.
Who are your top 5 to win this week at Sylvania 300 New Hampshire Motor Speedway
Johnson, Busch, Hamlin, Stewart, Bowyer, Gordon
whats my chances in the chase?
You won't be so happy if I tell you.
What they hell was TOny thinking last week? He got beat fair in square in a close battle, i'm sure it is frustrating to have not won yet when one of your teammates has 8 and the other at least has one but blaming it on your crew isn't the answer.
Nobody ever knows what Tony is thinking for sure. Just take it with a grain of salt as we have learned to.
12. Matt Kenseth: Crazy gas prices? I don?t care?I?m not payin?. 11. Kevin Harvick: Bring your helmet to Taco Bell and they?ll fill it up with guacamole, free. 10. Jeff Gordon: Don?t have to shave your body like Olympic swimmers. Although, why not? 9. Greg Biffle: Hasselhoff promised me one of those talking cars. 8. Tony Stewart: I use old checkered flags to make fabulous throw pillows. 7. Jeff Burton: There?s nothing like going through a car wash at 190 miles per hour. 6. Denny Hamlin: GPS underpants. 5. Clint Bowyer: Sorry, I forgot my joke ? I was thinking about Jessica Alba ? man she?s hot. 4. Dale Earnhardt, Jr.: Run out of olive oil? A little Quaker State will spruce up any salad. 3. Jimmie Johnson: Traveling to exotic locations like Martinsville, Virginia and Dover, Delaware. 2. Carl Edwards: At high school reunions, it?s fun to ask, ?So what do you do for a living?? 1. Kyle Busch: After a race, your butt vibrates for days.
LOL!!! Thanks for catching me up. And if Jeff Burton could go through a car wash at 190 then he would have won more races.
what happened if greg biffle got sick last week and couldn't have started the last week
They would have strapped him behind the wheel for a lap and taken him out for a substitute driver. Nothing would have kept him out of the car.
Do you think tony was right to throw his team under the bus last week? In my opinion I think it is going to be a happy split for the crew and Tony come the end of the season.
Yeah, I'm not so sure Tony and Zipadelli are the best of friends at the moment. I've sensed for quite a while that Zippy has felt betrayed.
anytime that I need something I'll call you up
Just know my resources are limited.
david, first time here... what effect do you think dodge not making the chase and leaving the truck series will have on the other 2 series?
All the manufacturers are struggling financially, but Dodge seems to be hit the hardest. Leaving the Truck series isn't that big of a loss. I'm told they're committed to Cup, and as far as I know the Nationwide Series.
Can J.J yeley get top 10 this Sunday? He has finished in top 10 last few years at this track.
Last I looked J.J. was looking for a job, not a top 10.
How long is a NASCAR season?
The right answer is too long. Alas, 36 races plus the All-Star race and Budweiser Shootout. It runs from February to the end of November, with testing in between. There's not much of a break.
David last week Jimmie mentioned tony as being his teammate next year, is the relationship of haas/stewart and Hendrick really going to be that close they will be considering themselves teammates?
I haven't heard of Scott Riggs going to any team meetings at Hendrick, so I would asume most of the sharing will be among engineers and crew chiefs, but that won't go as deep as the four Hendrick teams sharing amongst themselves.
david, do you have a solid following in this chat? do you remember seeing people week to week? appreciate the nascar knowledge getaway from classes..
Yes, there are regulars. Speaking of that, where's Tank this week. Miss him.
give us your predictions on how the chase will finish
Let's seem. Johnson, Edwards, Busch, Gordon, Hamlin, Bowyer, Earnhardt, Burton, Biffle, Kenseth, Stewart and Harvick.
where do u think scott riggs will land for the 09 season
We started with this. Ganassi wouldn't be a bad fit.
Speaking of too long...isn't it time some of the races were shortened???... i mean really 4 hours in a car...and those blasted commercials..its gotten so bad they interrupt the commercials to air the race!
Four hours is a long time to keep a fan's interest. It's the reason I like the NFL better than college football. The games are too long.
I was a huge senior fan, and I have lost a lot of interest in Jr. recently. The hype and expectation was so great and he hasn't really lived up to it. Only 18 career wins , no titles, he has missed the chase a couple of times, 70 somethin races without a win. And in my opinion he has been a disappointment at hendrick, only one win when i remember people saying he would have at least 5 or 6 come chase time. Yet this guy still manages to get mentioned among the likes of gordon, johnson, stewart, edwards and busch, hell busch and edwards and even johnson have been around a lot less time than junior and have gotten more accomplished. As far as i'm concerned Junior has been a bust and should not be considered a top driver in NASCAR, a tier B or C rating will suit him perfect.
All I can say is to compare Junior to his dad is a bit overstated.
Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards...... cage match...... who walks out?
Edwards is stronger, but I wouldn't put it past Busch to pull hair or hit below the belt.
Everyone seems to pass over Matt Kenseth, Do you think he can make a break through in the race for the cup?
He's done nothing through 26 races to make me think so, but if anybody can get on a consistent roll it's him. That there are five mile and a half tracks helps as well.
we've got frost warnings in the North country for this evening...not that we'll have snow this weekend (haha), but how might cooler temps effect the race? (tires, track, cars, etc.....)
So I should pack warm is what you're telling me? The cooler temperature will make the cars slightly faster, but it shouldn't impact who wins.
What non chase drive would finish the best if in the chase?
How about Martin Truex. He would have been in contention if it weren't for a 150-point penalty. Maybe Kasey Kahne as well.
Newt -- It was a lot of fun meeting you this weekend before the race. My buddies said I was a putz for interrupting your chat with Gibbs...I figured meeting "Johnny from NYC" was a once in a lifetime opp...oh well. It's amazing how nice everybody is down there...met Reutiman & Blaney...nicest guys in the world. It was fun meeting you...thanks for taking a minute to say hi!!!
No problem. I can talk to J.D. Gibbs anytime. You were once in a lifetime. Let's keep it that way. Just kidding.
Mark (LA,CA): Who are your top 5 to win this week at Sylvania 300 New Hampshire Motor Speedway ? David Newton : (2:24 PM ET ) Johnson, Busch, Hamlin, Stewart, Bowyer, Gordon. sounds like 6 to me??
Good catch. Two of them will tie.
Ok so why is jessica so sure of the cowboys so sure the cowboys are goin to beat the eagles after they beat the D-Less browns.noone on the browns is even close to Mcnabbs status lol
She's a bit biased don't you think. I like the Eagles.
Is Busch overrated? I dont think so i think hes the future of nascar .
Not overrated at all. He's the best thing to happen to the sport in a few years.
First. Will you come drink some beer with my buddies and I this weekend? (X lot is a whole lot of fun) and Think we will see another suprise pole winner this weekend at Loudon?
I might be convinced to have one as long as it's not way out in the campground. Last time I went out there didn't think I would get back.
Jeff gordon has fallen off the last 2 seasons whats his problem?
Are you nuts? Last year was one of his best seasons ever. If it weren't for Johnson having an unbelievable year he wins hands down.
Jessica is HOT, she can do whatever she wants.
You must have watched the Dukes of Hazzard movie.
Is Danica Patrick done because I never hear of her anymore?
She has been quiet lately, but no she's not done.
Well i already know he isn't his dad and never will be as good, i'm just tired of people mentioning him as being one of NASCAR's best when he clearly hasn't accomplished as much as the drivers i mentioned above.
Only a handful of drivers have accomplished as much as Dale Earnhardt, so it's unfair for anybody to be compared.
Hey, tonight we're supposed to get frost in the north country (cover those pumpkins....)sonot that we are expecting snow or anything (but wait a minute and the weather will change...)but how would/could cooler temps effect the race?
Cooler weather won't make much difference in the competition.
Have to agree the end of race comments by Tony and the reply from Zippy that were broadcast on the network really indicates a "little" friction between those two.
Friction is a good word.
I don't know if i'd pick kyle, sure its chase time but that was a track they were not as strong at, but i guess you never know.
He wasn't strong on plate tracks or road courses before this season, either.
He wasn't strong on plate tracks or road courses before this season, either.
Note to self -- 46 minutes into a chat session and no questions from Tank...be sure to attend church this weekend to thank god.
You know that is a fake Newton because the real one never would say that about Tank.
How would modify the Cali Track to set the condition to have exciting racing.
Tear it down and move it to a cooler climate.
Take a left out of the infield tunnel and its not that far of a walk. Do you think Tony Eury will be on the hook if Jr keeps dropping off the pace like he has been?
I doubt we'll see a change before the end of the season. That is a touchy issue and if a change were made I suspect Rick Hendrick would make it during the offseason.
Where does Dan Wheldon end up next year?
Panther Racing I read somewhere.
You're good at digging me a hole lol, but you can't disagree with me on the fact that right now in the sport (no one being compared to senior) Junior has not accomplished near as much as the drivers i mentioned but yet is he mentioned amongst them as one of the best. I don't know how you can disagree unless you are junior biased which i don't think you are.
I am not Junior biased. He gets mentioned so much because of his popularity, which in large part was passed d own from h is dad. He's still one of the top 10 drivers out there in my opinion.
When I got cut from the high school choir my grandmother used to say "you are in a league of my own." After watching Robby Gordon fall 1/2 lap behind the field after about 2 laps, I decided that he might be joining me that special league. I stopped singing...maybe Robby should follow my lead!
Great analogy Catfish. And we all are thankful you quit singing.
Tonyis just dumbe he got beat and his team as out smarted
As I've said before, take what Tony says , particularly after a race, with a grain of salt.
I'd love to stay and change your opinion but i have to go to work, good talking to you Newton.
Thanks for participating. Not sure we are that far apart.
if you could change how drivers got into the CHASE..what would u do??
I would require a win to get there.
Hey David, What "tweeking", if any would you like to see done to the Chase format????
As I said before, make a win mandatory to get into the field. I'd also like tosee winners in the Chase get more points to encourage winnning even more.
they aint tearing down the track and they are moving the date to cooler weather in October. I heard talk mid season about modifying the track to improve racing...see that happening?
They've talked about making the banking higher for years. We'll see.
which tracks would you take out of the chase and which tracks would you replace them with, why?
My 10 tracks would be, in this order, Las Vegas, Sonoma, Bristol, Texas, Darlington, Charlotte, Phoenix, Martinsville, Atlanta and end at Daytona.
It seems to me that one of Jr's major problems is that his crew can't make the changes to keep up with the changing in the tracks, what do you think?
The crew can't make the right changes without the right input from the driver. It all goes hand in hand.
Did you ever think about doing these chats jeopary version...we make comments and you have to ask questions?
Would certainly shake things up.
Thanksfor stikingup for me! Johny says Blaney is the most nicist guy in the world...is that true?
Tank. I was just about to give yp on you making it. Yes, Blaney is very nice. Having said that, I'm running overtime and have to go. See you next week.
