Chat with Bill Williamson

Tim (California Viking)

Hey Bill, do you think that Jyles Tucker will be a good replacement for Merriman? It sounds like they are real high on him and that maybe they will trade or let Merriman go after his contract is up after next season just because of this kid. They gave Tucker a 5 year extension and havent even talked to Condon about a Merriman extension yet, and with all the other big ticket contracts coming up, maybe AJ will let him walk or trade him? What do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

If Tucker does well, I can see it Merriman getting dealt next year. A lot of peeople in the knowidon't think Merriman will signed after the 2009 season. But it all depends on how Tucker reacts to his chance.

question to bill WILLIAMSON HI BILL BEARS OR PANTHERS SUNDAY

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Pant

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

Panthers. I think this is a team on the come. They were impressive in San Diego on Sunday.

Kevin (Austin, TX)

Bill; The Broncos offense obviously was great against Oakland. But what did you think about the Denver defense? What do you expect from it the rest of the year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

The Denver defense was good too. When the game was still in question the De nver run defense stuffed Oakland.Of course, we will learn more about when Denver plays San Diego on Sunday.

Steve: (San Diego, CA):

Hi Bill, Do you see the Chargers going after any free agent linebackers or D-linemen. I hear Roosevelt Colvin's out there? How about Junior Seau for a season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

Maybe. Seau would be fun. But it would be a surprise at this point. I think San Diego feels good about its linebackers especially when Stephen Cooper returns after three more games.

Kirk - Louisville, KY

Is there any hope for the Raiders? Or is it another wasted season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Sure, there is hope, Kirk. It's one game. Now, if Kansas City blasts Oakland on Sunday, the start to worry.

Will J (Portland, OR)

Bill, who is worse Oakland or Kansas City?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Tune in on Sunday.

Almar from San Jose,CA

Hey Bill, great work on your AFC west blogs. great reads all the time. Watching the Raiders play this past Monday night was horrendous especially with that recieving core that theyve got, I've been telling everyone, Mr. Kiffin should give some significant play time for that rookie Chaz Schilens. Big guy, great hands, easy target. Better than starting Higgins in that position. Whats your take on this, More Schilens or should the raiders pick up another "proven" reciever??

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

Thanks, Almar. I agree. Let Chaz get some on the job training. He has a chance to be very good and every other Oakland receiver is a stop-gap answer. Use Chaz.

Aaron: (Huntington Beach, California)

Will DeAngelo Hall be able to cover somebody in the future or are teams just going to be able to pass away from Nnamdi as they've done the past two years?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

If not, the Raiders are going to be torn apart. Hall needs to step it up and he knows that.

Larry (Pasco, WA)

Bill, with all the injuries how much trouble are the Chargers in, on the road, against the Broncos?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I think Gates need to

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I think Gates need to

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

I think Gates needs to have a big game. Denver will be ready for this game.

Brenden (Casper, Wy)

Bill, What do you know about James Martin the new tackle the Raiders picked up from Dallas? is he a developemental player or does he have ability to step in right away and be an impact?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

He's a former third-round pick. It was a nice pickup for a team that needs o-line help.

Stan (The Man)

Yes, brutal.

Josh (Lombard, IL)

It's looking like the Broncos have some solid pieces now on the O-Line. Have you been impressed with their development so far?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

Yes, they destroyed Oakland's D-Line Monday. Theackles, Ryan Clady and Ryan Harris, were great.

Matt San Antonio, TX

Bill, say the Broncos can play some decent defense this year and the offense remains explosive with Marshall and Royal...this could be one of the best teams in the NFL and Superbowl bound. What do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

It's early but this team has soem nice pieces. Defense is the key.

Shaun (Los Angeles, CA)

Hey Bill, Thanks for all your doing. If the Raiders come out on sunday with a strong performance, over what I believe to be a weaker Chiefs team, by playing the kind of defense they are capable of, do you think that they could save the season? Or do you think that the week one game was so bad that it will be nearly impossible to rebound from? Thanks

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

Yes, Oakland can save this season with a win at Kansas City.

matt (mass)

hi what about brady for the playofffs possible

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

No, he's on the injured reserve. He's out untl 2009. Sorry.

Os (Jersey)

Hey B-Dub, who's the better leader, Rivers or Cutler?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

Philip Rivers is one of the best leaders in the NFL.

Matt (San Antonio, TX

Any word if Boss Bailey will be good to go Sunday?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

I believe so, yes.

Tom (Simi Valley, CA)

I'm being cautiously optimistic but I can't help thinking Denver might have its best WR corps in forever. Even in the Smith/McCaffrey/Sharpe glory days they were constantly looking for a 3rd WR. Now, they have possibly 4 good WR plus solid TEs as well.

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

We'll see. That was a great group.

Os (Jersey)

Sort of a 9er question, but now with DJax getting a score for DEN and Lelie one for OAK, were the 9ers wrong about them?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Monday night, they were.

Toast (NM)

Bill, Do you still think that the Chargers are the clear favorites to win the AFC west? Will things change if the Broncos win on Sunday? Also do you think it will changes peoples views on Denver if the win? No one is really giving Denver any credit right now even after playing really well against Oakland, why? Yet the Jets get all this attention by just betting Miami at the last second.

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

If Denver wins and wins in a big way, then it is the favorite. But it's still early.

Denver, Colorado

Do you think jarvis moss will make a impact this season at all?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I'm not sure. Him not being active at Oakland is a bad sign.

fernando (argentina)

i took a loss with nateburleson being out for the season should i start matt jones or james jones???? HELP PLEASE!!! GOING NUTS!!!!

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

James Jones. Better QB.

Ryan (San Diego)

Lets not forget that Denver started 2-0 last year and finished at 7-9. Good starts are nothing new for them

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Very true.

Toby (Corpus Christi, TX)

Does LT look like he'll be 100% for the game at Denver this week?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

I don't think he will be 100 percent. But expect him to play for sure. He will be a big test for Denver's run D.

Paul (Houston, Tx)

Texans looked dismal against the Steelers, is this a trend for the entire season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

That shocked me. I had Houston as a wild card team. That was a bad start.

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

That shocked me. I had Houston as a wild card team. That was a bad start.

PT (Franklin, NC)

Will Mcfadden get more touches this weekend than he got on Monday?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

I think his numbers will increase as the season goes on.

PT (Franklin, NC)

Is Ronald Curry really as bad as he looked on Monday?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

I don't think he's a No. 1 receiver.

Brenden Littleton, Colorado

Do you think the Broncos offense could be even more potent when Ryan Torain comes back?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

The Denver run offense wasn't great in that game. It didn't need to be but it will have be strong as the season goes on. Torain could be back at New England on Oct. 20. He will be needed.

Os (Jersey)

Talk to me about Michael Bush, I thought he could start in the league. Should the Raiders trade him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

Not yet. He is a weapon who can help.

eric ( fort lauderdale )

The Broncos Eddie Royal: First game fluke or star in the making?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Flukes don't burn solid vets for nine catches and 146 yards. Royal is the real deal.

Ooga (Boston, MA)

With Brady out, what's is your prediction (win/loss) for the Pats season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

10-6

Dan (Philadelphia)

Do you think that Will Franklin will make an impact in the Chiefs passing game?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

He has to get healthy. But the Chiefs really like him. He should make an impact as a rookie.

Brian (Philly)

Some people are saying JaMarcus looked bad Monday. I thought he showed a lot of composure and didn't try to do too much. Granted he made some "rookie" mistakes, but overall I was impressed for a guy with no WR's making his 2nd start and his team getting killed.

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

He was OK.But, you are right. He didn't get much help.

Kev (NYC)

How do you predict Giants record?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

11-5

Jason (Michigan)

Any chance at all the Michael Turner has anything close to what he did last Sunday??

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

I love that guy. 1,500 yards and a Pro Bowl trip.

Mike(Dallas)

Hey Bill, who has the better secondary? The Iggles with Samuel,Lito, and Brown or the Boys trio of Pac Man, Newman, and Henry?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

Eagles.

PT (Franklin, NC)

Will Lelie end up being a bigger threat than Javon Walker this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

If so, Walker is in trouble.

quentin (wilmington, nc)

Why wont u answer any of my questions? I'm really a super guy.

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Nothing personal. Keep trying.

Brain (Pawleys Island, SC)

With the recent injuries to San Diego Chargers, do you think they are still the team to beat in their division as well as the AFC? Thanks.

William (Philadelphia, PA)

What's the word on Javon Walker's preparation and availability for the Chiefs this weekend?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

He practiced some Wednesday. I expect him to play at Kansas City.

Keith (Aurora, CO)

Hey Bill why isn't anyone in the league interested in Shaun Alexander the former Seahawks RB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Not yet. If he goes a few more weeks without getting interest, it will likely be over for the former star.

Almar from San Jose,CA

Will we ever see that big arm of JRuss in Oakland with really no deep threat other Lelie who definitely lost a step after all those injuries??

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

We should. Oakland needs to find some points somehow. The threat of the deep ball will help the running game as well.

David (Denver, CO)

I know you said Rivers was one of the best leaders in the NFL, but if you had to build a team around Rivers or Cutler, who would you be taking?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Cutler. He is ready to become one of the best QBs in the league.

Wes (San Diego)

Over/under: Mario Williams 18 sacks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Under. Barely.

Sean (Philly)

Giants 11-5? Does tha mean the Eagles and Cowboys each have 12 or more?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

That is one good division. Each are going to give each other losses.

Zach, Syracuse

What's the word on DeAngelo Hall? Didn't practice today, is this an injury or is it second degree burns from Sunday?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

Brutal, Zach, brutal.

moose (ma)

with brady out what are the bills chances at winning the devision

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

The Bills sure looked ready to make a move Sunday. Let's watch out for this team. it may finally be th year in Buffalo.

Brett (LA)

Yes, Denver might have started 2-0 last year, but they were two wins where they skated by. Denver hasnt blown out a team like this in a while (even if it was the raiders), hence the optimism...but yes, lets wait till they play a few more like it before we declare them the favs

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

This is a good weekend for Denver.

Brandon (Seattle, WA)

I miss the AFC West. The Seahawks don't have any legit feelings of hate towards their new division opponents. It is hard to hate a team you can't respect. Will the AFC West take us back?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

You want to stay in the NFC. Who cares about a rival. Just be happy to beat up weaker talent.

Chad (DC)

Will Fargas continue what he is doing or is he a good sell-high person.

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

I like him. Stick with him.

Keren (Maui)

Could Jarvis Moss be more valuable as a hybrid DE-Linebacker? He looks overpowered by most tackles.

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Maybe. He isn't very big. That could be the right call,

Redskins Fans (DC)

In case anyone was wondering, we already hate Jim "Clock Management" Zorn.

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Zorn may be in for a tough time.

Brody (LA)

Alex Smith: worst #1 pick ever! I'll hang up and listen.

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

He's a pretty solid candidate isn't he?

Mack (Colorado Springs)

What is your take on kiffins comments last night?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

He's amazing. The guy tells the truth like no other coach in the league. It may bite him but it is refreshing.

steve (Syracuse, NY)

Titans are a better team without Vince Young--agree?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Hate to say it, but maybe for the time being.

Keith (Aurora CO)

Bill, who is your darkhorse team for this season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

It was Houston. Not really fired up about that one right now.

chauncey (teaneck)

I don't know Tim Couch was pretty bad to.

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Another fine candidate.

Ed Johnson (Unemployed)

Uh yeah, I got cut by the Colts today. I guess I screwed up pretty good, huh?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Not good, Ed.

RS (Denver)

Still like your prediction of the Raiders finishing better than Denver in the West?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

No.

Jason, Oakland

What are your thoughts on McFadden. After watching him on MNF all that hype about seems to be gone. Is he just an mediocre RB with great speed or is he a legit bell-cow?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

He will be a big-play threat. Maybe not a 25-carry guy. But he has skills. He nearly busted a few big runs against Denver.

chauncey (teaneck)

no player set back a franchise like mike vick.

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

At least he won some big games before destroying the franchise.

Mike (Glen Ellyn)

Bill, who would you rather have as your starting QB? Tavaris Jackson, or Kyle Orton?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Today, Orton.

Os (Jersey)

Uh Ryan Leaf?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

He was the No. 2 pick behind Peyton Manning in 1998. So, yes, Leaf was the worst No. 2 pick ever.

Phil (NJ)

C'mon, Courtney Brown was lousy.

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

He has some momens before the injuries kicked in. Couch was worse for that franchise.

Brian (Greenville, NC)

Could Peyton Hillis be the reason behind all the hype surrounding McFadden and Felix Jones?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Denver really likes that kid.

Kim Deal (CA)

Fantasy question...what are your thoughts on DeSean Jackson and Sam Morris? Who do you think will be a more integral part of their respective O's?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Go with Jackson. He can be a star.

JOE BIDEN

Joe here, huge Bronco fan. Who ya got Billy boy? Chargers?? Or Denver?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I see a great game. I really do. Wow, that hour just flew by. Thanks for the fun times. Talk to you next Thursday/
