Good morning to one and all. It's an action-packed hour of fantasy football goodness. So let's get this party started, why don't we.
I am concerned about Darren McFadden's "toe" injury. How dependable is McFadden this week and should I start him considering it sounds like he will get 20+ touches.
Raiders have two concerns - Fargas might not be ready to go either. I think McFadden will end up playing and getting 15-20 carries. Bush is the guy to pick up the slack for Fargas, and if I'm wrong on McFadden, he'll get even more work.
What up AJ?! Bench one (PPR): Welker (Mia), Bryalon (Bal), Chris Johnson (Hou). Thanks in advance.
I'm sitting Braylon until Derek Anderson gets his act together (or Quinn gets the nod and a few games under his belt.)
With Grant's hammy still acting up, should I go with him, Brandon Jackson, Slaton, or Felix Jones?
Slaton is the safest play, because I think Grant will play but maybe get only 15 carries... another one to watch how the week progresses.
Hey AJ, it's Tre' Day! Is Gonzalez really more valueable than Harrison now for the Colts?!?!?! Or is it just because of the knee issues of Marvin and injury of Dallas Clark.
Harrison looks good. It's more that A-Gonz was filling the Clark void. Signs are pointing to Dallas' return, so Marvin "should" be more valuable in Week 3.
What do you expect from Chris Taylor for the year
Right now I think Slaton is doing the job, so when Green gets back, Taylor won't be getting too many carries. Bu the does have one more week to showcase his stuff, since Green is iffy. A standout performance, and he might have a shot at some stats in 08.
Should I be concerned about MJD?
Concerned, a bit, yes. But MJD has never been a running RB... his value comes from PPR, and the yards accumulated through the pass. I'm more concerned with the ankle than the low YPC. Eventually the O-Line will improve.
AJ, tough call between rodgers and Big Ben(composite rankings have them tied). My thoughts are rodgers is not injured at all, is at home, a prime time game, and im an eagles fan (against pit) so rodgers is my start right?
I go with Rodgers. For one, Big Ben looked like he was in pain after every throw last week. I'm concerned about what happens if the blitzing Eagles knock him down. Plus, Pitt is not going to throw 25-30 times a game. It's not their style. I go Rodgers.
Whos your pick for this week... Dallas Clark (vs. jac) or Scheffler (vs NO)????
I like Scheffler. He's got a good matchup, and on top of it, Cutler is hot. Plus Clark is still not a guaranteed 100 percent.
Can you explain your stance on the whole "Craig Terrill scored an offensive touchdown and not a defensive one"? We're actively debating it in our league as it decides the out of a game. Do you think the TD should be credited to Terrill as an offensive player or to the Seattle Defense? I think ESPN has awarded it to the Seahawks Def/St currently, but that doesn't make sense since the NFL ruled it to be an offensive score.
In my mind, it goes to what the intent of the scoring rules are... you want the D/ST to be awarded points when they score a TD. A defensive player, playing defense scored the TD, therefore, Seattle's D should get the points.
Have been riding Shockey thinking he would explode in the NO offense... is he still hurt, learning the O or should I throw Donald Lee into my starting lineup?
I think Colston's injury is going to allow D's to focus more attention on Shockey. He's still always a 4-6 catch guy, and I'd start him over Lee.
Will STL offense ever get going, or should I bench SJAX this week for someone with a better matchup like C.Johnson or R.Bush
No. That offense is awful. That defense is awful. It's just not working. Now, I still think Jackson is a starting RB, but he's not top tier with the Rams needing to play catch-up all the time. It's a matchup thing, and I think Seattle stops him.
Good morning AJ. How much upside do you see out of Cassel this week? Do you think he's capable of the projected 24 points?
He's still got Moss and Welker, and the Miami defense is awful. Seriously, he could throw two five yard passes to Welker and get 80 passing yards out of it on the first series alone. It's not Cassel... it's the Dolphins.
John Carlson is my precious this week.
Sauron's not exactly sending the wraiths after Keary Colbert.
I picked up Justin Gage based on Berry's suggestion and now I see he is hurt and might not play this week. So which is a better pick up now...David Patten or Armani Toomer?
I'm not declaring Gage out just yet... Wednesday practices are frequently missed by banged up players w/out a serious injury. If he's not out there today, I'll be a bit more concerned. -- I like Patten a bit better than Toomer this week if the need does arise, though.
Howdy AJ! Which underperforming WR should ride the pine...Housh or Holt? Thanks.
I don't think either goes nuts, but I'd actually start Housh. Giants tend to always fall asleep in the secondary for a quarter here and there.
Is it time to panic on Derek Anderson? Is he still at top 10 QB?
I never thought he was. (Go back and check my 32Q's on the Browns for that one.) I'm not starting him, and if he has another bad outing or two, neither will Cleveland.
IS Sproles a viable option even if LT starts? I don't think they will rely heavily on LT
I think he's worth a look at flex even if LDT starts. We can see he's not fully healthy, so the odds are that he'll either be rested late even if he does start. But, I'm not using him as a RB1 or RB2 if I have other options.
Is it time to sell high on Kurt Warner or do you think he can keep it up?
Both. I think he can keep it up, but with his injury track record, if I can use him to get better at other positions without taking too much of a hit, I'd sell high.
I picked 11th and got Larry Johnson with my second pick. I feel ashamed for taking him. What do you think his season will look like?
Sit down, Gavin...
Which of these disappointing QBs has the best opportunity to get out of thier funk this week? Palmer, Schaub, Delhomme?
I'd argue that Delhomme has been OK, actually. Therefore, I go with Jake.
I'm in a keeper league where you can pick people up off waivers and keep them the following year for (at the moment) a 7th round draft pick. I have six bench spots and a pretty shallow WR & RB crew (Westbrook, MJD, Kevin Smith, Chris Perry, Chester Taylor; T.O., Boldin, Mason, Galloway, Berrian.) Is it worth it to drop one of those guys, pick up Brady and keep him on the bench all year so I can have him in the 7th next season?
Bye bye Chester.
How much can you see Jones cutting into Barber's carries? Would you consider trading Barber for a good RB and a top WR?
I think because Jerry Jones si a big Felix fan, we will see him a bit more in a "slash" capacity. But Barber is still going to get close to 25 carries a game when healthy, especially the ones near the goal line, so I don't think it will impact his fantasy value.
Am I worth owning at all anymore?
I just hope you survive the 8 sacks this week, Marc.
How do you feel about Colbert and K-Rob (as pickups, not just this week)?
Better about Koren than Keary, since he knows the system and has performed well in it in the past. Week 5 could see a return of some of the real Seahawks receivers, but Robinson may hold on to the No. 3 job through that.
Rules question. Before the year it was decided that kick and punt return td's counted for the individual player also. For one reason or the other it won't reflect that on our scoring settings and the scores would have to be manually changed. Now the league is going back and says they don't count. Changing a rule after the draft isn't fair is it?
I agree it's not fair, especially since it seems the only rationale for the change of heart is laziness.
Hey AJ, I know there are far worse fantasy decisions to be made this weekend but, should I start Cutler over Romo this weekend? I like the match up and the fact Cutler is at home gives him the edge.
Then go with it. Let's face it, we're all making guesses. Some people's are more educated than others, but when we rank QB's, if I hypothetically have Cutler three spots ahead of Romo, and by two fantasy points, it's really saying it's a coin toss anyway.
On the kick and PR TD question - if the player gets credit, and the D/ST gets credit, doesn't that in effect double count a TD? Or is this not how it works? Just curious...
Indeed... this would be a "double count" -- which is fine with me. It's the same as the rare case when say a QB fumbles, the defense recovers and returns it for a few yards, then fumbles themselves... the QB picks it up and runs it in for 6. That's a TD for the QB AND his own team's Defense. It's fluky play, but it happens.
Does Chris Cooley's photograph mess him up this week or should I still start him over D Lee?
I didn't see the photo in question, but unless the playbook was (ahem) also (cough) plainly visible, Cooley should be fine.
If Turner has a great weekend running the ball(like some are predicting), do you think it would be wise to sell high on him, or do you think he keep up similar stats all year? If you were to sell, would SJax be a good target? Anyone else?
I would sell high, especially because I see him as an every other week guy. He gets big numbers, then the defense the next week keys on him, and he's ordinary, so the next week the defense doesn't worry about him, so he puts up good numbers, etc. As for who to target, Jackson might be the best talent you'd be able to grab - or perhaps a panicky LDT owner.
Can't a lady get an answer? :) Who do I start at RB this week (pick two) Chris Johnson, LT, McGahee, S. Morris, S. Young, T. Hightower?
Johnson for sure. As for #2, I'd wait until after Friday - if signs point to LDT, I start him. If it's looking iffy, then I go Morris.
I need a RB2! Who do you go with? Julius Jones, Chris Johnson or Jonathan Stewart?
Chris Johnson would be my pick.
What do you think of Matt Jones of the Jags for a backup WR
I think he's starting for me in many leagues as my WR3. He's got size and talent and the Jags have few other options right now. Then again, he's my fantasy kryptonite.
I need a WR for week 4. There is not much out there, do I pick up Gage or Branch since Branch started practicing this week?
I don't buy that Branch is ready and Seattle has bye in Week 4 anyway...
Would you trade portis or gore for addia right now?
No. I'd stick with either.
Graham, T Jones, or Run DMC?
This week I go with Jones.
Anyone in the Raiders passing game worth keeping on your roster or just cut losses and drop people like Curry Walker and Lelie?
I actually drafted Curry in my long-time keeper league, as he was the best player on the board at the time, and couldn't even bring myself to keep him on my roster for the start of Week 1. Nothing to see here... move along!
Bowe, or Bryant Johnson this weeek?
This week I'd go with Bryant. Not going to trust Tyler Thigpen with my fantasy fate.
AJ, do you think Kerry Collins at QB will adversely affect Chris Johnson or will it increase his productivity?
I've said for a few seasons now that VY's presence hurts the Titans b/c teams look more to stop the run with a scrambling QB like him. Collins' more traditional style forces them to play more honest which helps where the Titans are strong... at RB.
One last try...Better handcuff for B. Jacobs in case of injury...Ward or Bradshaw?
I think you can't go wrong either way, because the G-Men will go to a two-back split if that happens. I think Bradshaw is the better back, but if you have Ward, that suffices as an insurance policy.
Hi AJ. McGahee or Eddie Royal at Flex.
Royal. I need to see Willis in action before I am willing to insert him.
Dan (NYC) asked that question on both chats yesterday!
Well, it's a legit question that a lot of people might want to know the answer to. Clearly, other analysts agree b/c they chose it out of the thousands received in an hour as well. We go to what catches our eye.
Does the Bengal offense ever get back on track and with that do I bench Ocho for Roddy White or Desean Jackson this week?
I think they do, and it's tough to sit a guy like 85... but having said that, do I sit a guy who has two 100 yard games and is hungry to make amends for a bonehead play last week? No I don't. I go DeSean.
Will Tim Hightower value rise as the season goes on and we'll see more of role other then goal line back?
I like Hightower a lot, and yes, I think as the year goes on, Tim slowly gets a little more PT. Right now though, he's only a vulture.
Buzzer Beater!!! Am I still a top 5 WR for the year.
Yes you are. You're just not going to have too many 10-130 and 3 TD days... just a lot of 5-90 and 1 TD days with the occasional breakout... like against the Dolphins.
Hail Mary! Would you trade LT for Brandon Jacobs and Brandon Marshall? I already own Adrian Peterson and need a receiver.
That trade I would make. If you get that kind of value, you're not panicking.
That trade I would make. If you get that kind of value, you're not panicking.
Thanks gang! That's all the time we have today. Don't forget to get those Pigskin Pick Em picks and Eliminator choices in. We'll see you the next time on Villa Allegre!
