How's it going folks. Quite a turn of events to start the Chase. What's on your mind?
Hey Terry, What about Greg Biffle it was a great time too get his first win of the year? And also do you think Kyle Busch can still win the champonship. I don't think he can with the attidue he showed after the race.
Busch definitely can still win this. I wrote a column today saying he should seek advice from Stewart, who's been where Kyle is right now.
Thoughts on Joey Lagano's performance on Sunday?
Very hard to judge. The jack thing wasn't his fault and that 96 car isn't very good. I think I'll wait to say after I see him in another Cup race
I was wandering who you thought where the top 5 best drivers are in nascar right now.
Edwards, Johnson, Stewart, Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch, who is a victim of a terrible team right now.
Hey Terry, with rumors of GEM merging with BDR and Ganassi merging with MWR, how serious is Dodge's problems???? They are already cutting back support in the truck series.
I think Dodge is committe to staying in Cup, but all the manufacurers are hurting right now. If Davis merges with GEM, that would help Dodge.
do you think we have seen the best of jeff gordon, yeah he got in the chase but just hasnt been a factor all year, how can a team so awesome a year ago be so average or below average this year, and do you beleive jeff when he says he might retire in 4 years or so.
Jeff still is a top driver, but his team hasn't adjusted well to the COT, and it doesn't fit his driving style. Things could change next year if change are made to the car. But I do think Jeff will retire within five years
So many items this week but what has caught my attention was the bump that JJ made on Biffle on the last lap. Did not think it was a big deal until Biffle mentioned it last night on Speed. Anything there?
No. There are both fighting for the win and both or title contenders. It's gonna get rough from here on out.
Are you surprised that Jay Frye isn't going to SHR?
I am a little, but this is great news for TRB. Jay's done a remarkable job there this season and the sky's the limit. No doubt TRB owner Dietrich Mateschitz told Jay to name his price.'
a couple of years ago ESPN ran their top-25 (or some # like that) NASCAR drivers of all time. Tony Stewart was somewhere around #11 and Jimmie Johnson wasn't on the list even though his #s were pretty close even at that point (in two less seasons). if Jimmie 3-peats where does that put him on the list?
This year we listed out top 25 of al-time across every series. JJ didn't make this list and Tony was 13th, but he'll defintely make the next one if the wins his third title. He would move up in the NASCAR ankins, but still fall behind Earnhardt, Petty, Allison and probably Gordon. Of course, he still can catch them
Terry, I think Kyle B. will bounce back and battle Edwards and Biffle at Dover this week. What non-chase drivers do you think will do well????????
Kurt Busch, Vickers, Ragan and Kahne
Terry, Which is the best track left in the Chase for racing? One that allows drivers to pass even with the COT?
Proably Miami, but we haven't seen the COT there yet, so it's ard to say. Dega should be a good race because the COT has raced well in the plate events.
A number of people seem to think Tony Stewart and company will have problems next year. Given how much Chevy invested in this deal, won't they do everything possible to ensure his success?
It's the sponsors making the big investment, not Chevy. No matter how much money they have, it won't be easy to turn things around in one year.
after watching the first race give me your top five after homestead now.
Edwards, Johnson, Busch, Biffle, Earnhardt
My weekly question Terry. Any news on Newman?
Only the rumor that the Army may be one of his sponsors next year.
Terry, Do you think that Matt Kenseth has a shot. To get back in contention.I know its just the first race but he is 177 back. Too much i think.
Kenseth is great at making up points, as we saw earlier this year. But it isn't just the points. He has 11 top drivers to pass. If he were second and 177 points down, the task would be easier.
There is a reoccurring theme with DJR that he does not communicate well what the car is doing in order for the crew chief to make correct adjustments. Any Idea why DJR struggles to communicate as is being reported?
Junior knows what to tell them to improve the car, but he gets angry when the car has problems. As Hendrick said, he just needs to stay calm and rational. But his crew and made major strategic mistakes this season that have hurt him, and it's wearing thin on Junior.
i never understood y nascar at sum tracks never practice or qualify in race conditions (example Richmond) y practice and qualify in the heat of the day ...when the race is at night ?
NASCAR tries to sked a practice session close to the time the drivers will race, but sometimes it isn't possible when NW and Truck events are at the same track. And qualifying at the same time means nothing. Qualifying set-up has little to do with how the car will race.
with a top 20 run and well in the top 35 do u think scott riggs will have a ride next year.....on his site he said something hopefully within 3 weeks...ne wonder who it would or could be with
It's pretty hush-hush, but Scott is the last guy out there with a lot of Cup experience, so he could land on his feet.
Why is it when there is always a crash you see the 55 car in the middle of the crash?
That's a little unfair, but part of it has to do with the fact that he's usually running near the back of the field where more things happen. By the way, Waltrip was the first driver to crash at the new zMax Dragway, hitting the wall in a exhibition match-up with Ron Capps.
How many point behind can you be from the leader as you go into the last race and still have a shot at winning the cup?
Mathematically, 160 if you win the race, lead the most laps and the points leader finishes last. But realistically, you better be within 50 points to have a legitimate shot.
do u see pocono staying at 2 races a year? and going to 400 miles ?
Pocono should have one event at 400 miles. But I don't see that happening for now.
I have always enjoyed the scanner chatter between the driver and crew. Now that ESPN has made a big deal out of it withe Stewart, Bowyer and Jr. could they be killing the goose that lays the golden egg? I would hate to see this limited the way it is in F1
All the drivers have known for years hat everything they say on the radio can ne heard by anyone with a scanner. They should look at it just as they would talking in public. A 5-year-old can listen to it if the child has a scanner.
How is that unfair? When the crashes happened you always see Waltrip near it or the one causing the crash.
No, you don't ALWAYS see it. But maybe you see the 55 more than a lot of other cars.
ne news on scott riggs with ganassi or petty?
Scott said he would have an announcement by the end of the month.
who the worst driver M.WALTRIP OR K. PETTY?
Not going there. Waltrip has won the Daytona 500 twice. You don't do that by luck, no matter how good your car is. Kyle admits he isn't the best driver out there, but he also doesn't have the best equipment.
If GEM buys BDR, will they keep Blaney? Or will Reed/Carpentier get the points of the 22 and the other stay in the 10 car?
I seriously doubt they would keep Blaney. I imagine Reed would get the 22 car points and Patrick would continue to drive the 10 car.
How did Dover get the moniker "The Monster Mile"? (Note: I understand the mile part.)
Because it's a monster to drive. I don't know who said it first, but it stuck and now the monster is the winning trophy, which happens to be the best trophy in Cup. And there's a giant monster statue in the infield with a full size car in his hand.
Do you think Kyle Busch will have a better car this week or not?
It couldn't be worse. And Kyle won at Dover in June.
Going into Dover, which I was fortunate to attend the race this past June and I bought my monster mile figure and have it displayed in my office holding up an 2004 Greg Biffle die cast. Are some chasers worried more than others about racing at the Monster Mile?
Stewart and Hamlin have had a lot of bad luck there in crashes, so they probably have some concerns about it.
do u think tony stewart would still be @ jgr if they didnt move 2 toyota?
No. Tony had a rare opportunity to own his own team. That was the deciding factor.
think jr has got a shot?
Absolutely. Just stay calm and race the way the car and team are capable of racing.
Okay one last question, Do you think Kyle Busch is a dirty driver?
No. I think he's a very aggressive driver. Has he knocked guys out of the way to get to the front? Sure. But so did Dale Earnhardt Sr. and lot of other drivers.
what are the odds newman and/or stewart will thank rick hendrick for the engines and body in victory lane in 09 ?
100 percent if they win a race.
nascar do you think it is growing among teens
NASCAR officials believe they are. Having Logano in Cup next season won't hurt.
Do you see another driver in the Dale Sr. mode of ownership? What I mean is driving competitively for one team, while owning another competitive team?
Dale Jr. is close to doing that now. By 2010, his NW team could move up to Cup, but he'll still be at Hendrick.
If you had to pick 1 driver to win you a million dollars, who would you pick and why?
It would depend on the track where they were racing. But in general, with the pressure on, I'd probably take my chances with Johnson because he has the best team overall.
be honest how much imput does rick hendrick have over at hass and stewart racing ?
Very little, Hendrick just supplies parts for a fee. He isn't teling Tony how to run the show.
Besides Truex Jr., who is driving for DEI next year?
Menard, Almirola and Smith if they find sponsorship for a fourth car.
Will Jr's Cup team be competitive? I'm sure he'll have help from Hendrick, but I would guess Keselowski will be in Cup by then (either splitting time with Mark in the 5 or in his own ride).
Junior is waiting because he wants to do it right and have full sponsorship. Brad could replace Martin in 2011 or he could stay with Junior. Dale advived him to stay in a Hendrick car if he has that option.
With the passing of Ricky Hendrick the rumors had been that Jay Frye would take over when Mr. Hendrick stepped down. With the new multi year deal at Red Bull does this change anything?
No. The man in line to replace Rick is Marshall Carlson, Rick's son-in-law.
Gotta run folks. Nice chat today. Have a great week. Peace.
