Its great to back chatting about recruiting. Looks like we have some good questions --lets get started.
BIG pickup for the Wolverines from Anthony LaLota this past weekend, whether is OT or DE the kid has great athleticism for someone so big (seems to be a good character guy as well). We are hearing a lot of good things about AZ DE Craig Roh, do you think he's Blue tomorrow?
I agree about LaLota, huge pickup. Great upside and his continued physical development will most likely dictate position
I give Mich. the edge on Roh.
Only school he visited and it went well
Tune into ESPNU at 3:30pm PST on Thurs for his announcement.
Billy, Is Michigan's poor start going to hurt recruiting?
With LaLota and my above choice of where he I think Roh could end up, no.
You can always spin recruiting, particularly if you are a traditional power.
Coach Rod is selling kids on early playing time as they rebuild.
Billy, how does USC continue to land the top skill players in the country if they know they could start off 6th on the depth chart?
On the chance to play in huge games, compete against the best everyday and maybe most importantly -- receive top-notch NFL grooming.
Having QB Matt Cassel starting for the Pats after never starting at USC is a great selling point
Billy, when does Craig Loston make the switch to the Longhorns?
My hunch would be he will make a switch, but I am not so sure it will definitely be in-state Texas. LSU will be in the mix
Are the Buckeyes ready to hand the keys over to Pryor? What other freshmen have impressed you?
I have been just as impressed with Pryor's poise not just his physical skills thus far
I thought OSU's offense was more potent last week with him in there
There have been a bunch of true frosh I have been impressed with. WR AJ Green (Georgia), RB Mark Ingram (Alabama) and OLB Sean Spence Miami (Miami) are a few that come to mind
Berry is lobbying hard to get Telfort to the Buckeyes. Where do you see him landing? and how loaded is the OSU class?
Jason, I still give the edge to Florida. I know they have been recruiting him hard for quite some time
Billy after watch ND this fall, what positions do you think the Irish need to finish with in this class?
I actually like the way they are gelling up front and all around as a team
Still think they need more perimeter speed on both sides of the ball. WR Shaq Evans across from Michael Floyd (who I have been impressed w/) would be ideal
Are there any true freshman around to country who are contributing that you didn't forsee?
Safety Blake Gideon for Texas is a surprise
We had him as a top-15 safety and were impressed with his instincts and athleticism but what he is doing is very impressive
Billy, give me your surprise recruiting classes this year.
Off the top of my head I would say Duke, Mississippi State, Stanford and ECU.
My biggest disappointment would be Boston College after the year they had.
I believe Duke had 11 losses and BC had 11 wins. Duke is blowing them away right now and its academic standard is just as high
Heard Bryce Brown was still looking around, and looking into taking visits. What are the chances he decommits from Miami?
I would say very unlikely and have not heard that rumor. Unless his brother Arthur Brown is unhappy and transfers but that is not likely either
Will there be any significant changes to your ESPN 150 after seeing some kids play this fall?
We recently moved ILB Petey Smith into the 150 after his dominate performance in Armwood's win over Plant and No. 2 QB Aaron Murray
His teammate DE Ryan Giddens moved up as well
We are going to breakdown RB's Jaamal Berry and Trent Richardson after Trent went for over 400 yards last Friday
He could be pushing for the top RB spot if he continues to tear it up, Berry is playing very well though
OSU still #1 rated in classes and how loaded is this class coming in?
They do have a loaded class but currently No. 2 behind USC
It is filled with some top players but tapers off toward the bottom
How does ND have such a highly rated recruiting class every year, yet they still stink? Are their recruits being overrated or is it coaching?
The big question is can Weis develop talent, didn't have to do that in the NFL.
I think he will and it is starting to show, how they finish this year will tell a lot.
Any idea on when/where Knile Davis will commit?
This kid is a great back who is under the radar a bit due to injury last year. Has some visits set up, (Missouri is one I believe) and will most likely be a kid who decides later.
It is quite obvious that recruiting has is beginning earlier and earlier. Do you foresee a lot more 'decommits' as the progress is quickened, and high school kids make what are often rash decisions? Or do you believe the number will stay static (I know basketball is early in the same way, do they have a lot of decommits, don't follow it that much). Thanks
I think you will see a heavy de-commitment period right after the major official visits happen later this fall
I don't personally like the early commitment idea unless prospects can get out and see schools extensively like on official visits --which would be tough to squeeze in.
Are you guys adding anymore players to the Under Armour game or is the roster we see online the final?
We have a few spots remaining and tracking a lot of guys this fall for those remaining positions
We added Georgia commit TE Arthur Lynch-Fontaine this week
How much has USC's dominance in recruiting out west affected the rest of the PAC-10's ability to compete nationally?
Ray I think the rest of the Pac-10 schools realize they are probably not going to win head-to-head battles with USC for top national prospects or top guys out West
Instead you might see more Pac-10 programs go for system fitting/program fitting prospects like Stanford has done this year
Will the Under Armour game compete with the Army AA game, or are they scheduled at different times? Please say different times...
We are scheduled to play on Sunday night Jan. 4th, 8:00pm EST on ESPN, different than last year.
Do you see Kentucky getting any more big time commits? People are starting to get very excited about UK football this year!
I think they will if they have a successful fall. I really like its class at this point w/ QB Newton and Ath Sims -- fans should be excited
Hey Bill, What do you think of Michigan's class? Do you expect them to land Roh and retain Will Campbell?
I like Michigan's class and think they have done a good job filling in some much-needed system-fitting holes on the roster, particularly at QB w/ Forcier and Beaver.
I stated earlier I think Roh will be a Wolverine and they could have stud bookends for the future with him and LaLota
Campbell should be retained, sounds like he just wants to experience visiting other schools and get back in the chase; everyone wants to feel wanted
Thanks for joining today and remember to tune into Roh's announcement on ESPNU tomorrow at 3:30pm PST
