Welcome Everyone!! Hope you all are well and ready to talk some recruiting!
Will either of Michigan's QB recruits coming in this years class (Forcier and Beaver) be decent enough to start next season?
I believe Forcier could step in and play as a true freshman -- he is a good fit for that offense - very athletic - accurate - and also a confident kid.
Does Chris Bond's latest injury scae off any teams?
Been some tough injuries over the last week - one with Bonds getting a set-back -- i do not think it will scare off teams -- it was a minor set back and if needed i believe he could be back this season -- but i think he may play it safe and just heal -- he should be fully ready to go by next fall -- still a good prospect.
Please give me some hope as a suffering bruin fan that they have a good shot at some legit olinemen.
Brian -- UCLA seems to be in the hunt for some O-Line talent - Big Stan Hasiak is looking hard at UCLA as is John Martinez -- Michael Philipp is another option out there. Martinez may be a long shot, but they could have a legit shot at the other two.
What kind of impact could Cody Green have in Lincoln next year?
Good athlete -- could help in several ways and if not at QB but as a WR or on defense he could help quickly -- if Nebraska wants to develop him as a QB - don't know if he will be able to have a quick impact and may need some time to develop at that position.
do you really believe trent richardson is looking around or is he pretty much committed?
I think that Richardson is on board with Bama, but i don't think he is keeping his options open and if i was a Bama fan i would not consider that 100-percent yet - but naturally they are in the best position.
Is the early playing time and success of Julio Jones, Mark Ingram, and the rest of the 2008 class paying dividends for 2009?
Sure - the success of those young guys help - but beyond that Saban has Bama fully back on the scene as a recruiting power -- good class so far for them and working on cracking the top 10
Aside from the usual suspects (Fla, USC, OSU) who is looking to have a big recruiting year? (I know it is early, but still was wondering)
Outside of some of the names that have been near the top the last few years some others doing well are FSU and Tennessee - both interesting to follow this season to see how the classes shape up if they struggle on the field. Also watch South Florida
With the type of D-Line commits (see Marvin Austin, Richard Quinn, Quinton Coples, Donte Moss etc) manages to get to UNC, is it safe to say that John Blake is the best recruiter in the nation?
The best? not ready to commit to that - but i will say without question one of the best -- he can recruit with the best of them -- most would argue top 10 and could even push for top 5
Reuban Randle to LSU or do Florida or Alabama sneak in there?
Not many big prospects leave Louisiana -- McKnight was really the exception -- I think it will be tough to get Randle out of there.
How do you feel Petrino's first full recruiting class is coming along at Arkansas?
Good -- he really did a good job in a short time last year and is following that up well. Not a top 10 class - but keeping key in-state guys and dipping into Texas.
If (when) Syracuse gets a new coach next year, where would you see there recruiting base being? School in the area such as Rutgers are heading south, do you see them doing the same?
I really think it will be tough for them to turn that ship around no matter who takes over -- they can not turn their back on their recruiting base of the Northeast - that needs to be where they do their most damage
But they need to do better there - right now they are getting beat on their "turf" so to speak -- but also need to try and start stretching down south some and maybe get back into the midwest.
What does ECU coach Skip Holtz have to do to attract North Carolina's top recuits to play in Greenville as opposed to other schools in the state or region?
Keep winning - basically -- when you are a non-BCS school you will always struggle some against BCS programs, but if ECU can win and get to bigger bowls or crash the BCS party they can steal some guys here and there.
How good is Georgia's class shaping up this year and do you think they win (dominate) this weekend?
Bulldogs have a very good class - right in the mix of the top 5 and i think they will win this weekend - but i would not say dominate -- Bama is getting better and quickly - that is a good team.
Do you think that WVU recent losses will hurt recruiting and is Logan Heastie good enough to start as a true freshman?
I wouldn't buy too much into the losses -- if the wheels completely come off the bus it could hurt some -- but solid class now and they should keeping moving along in a positive manner recruiting wise as they have a good core class set up right now. Heastie i think can play right away because he is fast and can contribute at least in the vertical passing game.
Which conference (aside from the SEC and it's proximity to Texas, Georgia and Florida) has the best natural recruiting base?
After the SEC - i would say ACC (with great access to Fla,, Georgia, Bama) then Big 12 -- good access to Texas and Louisiana as well as Illinois) and then PAC-10 -- (because of the size and talent of California)
Any PSU recruiting news? Are their any elite prospects left on Joe Pa's radar?
The big fish for them out there is OLB Jelani Jenkins
Devod Kennard got some bad news with his ACL. Does ASU still push hard to bring him aboard?
I would hope so -- Kennard is an excellent prospect -- it is a bit of setback this injury - but times have changed and with good surgery and hard work in rehab - athletes can return as good if not better then before. I am sure all his top 5 still want him -- his impact as a true freshman may have dipped a little, but big picture -- still a great prospect.
Top 5 recruiting head coaches who ya got?
off the top of my head in no particular order - Carroll at USC, Meyer at Florida, Saban at Bama, Brown at Texas, and Tressel at OSU.
Is any part of recruiting: I need to get this guy not because I need him but my rival wants him and needs him more than I do so I best keep him away?
A little bit - Programs will recruit first with their own best interests in mind - but there is games being played out there -- i am sure schools offer some kids and recruit some kids to make things tougher on rival programs and try and cloud the water some for the school that really wants him. So it is a small part of recruiting.
I gotta run -- thanks for stopping by -- be sure to check out the Recruiting Insider on ESPNU on Thurs. and Fri. nights. Take care.
