Chat with Scouts Inc.'s Bill Conley

Bill Conley
  (3:00 PM)

Hope everyone has settled down since upset Saturday. A lot of young talent coming to the forefront in college football. Let's talk recruiting; fire away!

Brett (Texas)

Is there anyone on USC's roster that is less than a four star? Just wondering, didn't think it was possible.

Bill Conley
  (3:02 PM)

Can't really find a weakness in any of their recruits that are verbaled. They do need some more defensive linemen but they did get three in '08. Very good class already in '09.

Andrew (Hoboken, NJ)

Did Shaq Evans visit to ND put them back in the race with USC?

Bill Conley
  (3:04 PM)

I think he was really impressed and ND definitely helped themselves out but I still see USC as the team on top.

Jason (Detroit, MI)

Who are the REAL candiates to fill out the Mich. State class. Good solid core thus far but any suprises you see???

Bill Conley
  (3:06 PM)

Their class is top heavy on offense; 11 of 15 commits. They need more defensive players and players with speed. No real big names leaning their way but they have an outside shot at William Campbell and Hageman; but thoes are outside shots.

David, Texas

What have you heard about Abilene High School LB Chris Williams and his college plans? Thanks!

Bill Conley
  (3:08 PM)

I think its a close race between LSU and Nebraska; the Cornhuskers are hanging tough against the Tigers. Tech and TCU are longshots.

John maze

Is Russell Shepard going to be a big part of the LSU Offense next year

Bill Conley
  (3:10 PM)

The Tigers have young quartebacks but this guy is indeed special. He is an elite player that has all the tools; speed, quickness, vision, and hips. There's got to be a place for him on the field.

Dan (San Diego)

Bill, any news on Manti Te'o? In recent comments he is strongly suggesting that his choice will be based on how well his religion (LDS) fits into a college community. Does that mean BYU is the front-runner, or is USC still tops? Thanks.

Bill Conley
  (3:11 PM)

Religion is very important and BYU will hang tough to the end. USC and BYU have the best shots but UCLA may be a sleeper.

Will (Denver, CO)

Are the Hurricanes a front runner for Ray Ray Armstrong and Andre Debose? Are they a packaged deal?

Bill Conley
  (3:14 PM)

These guys are buddies and they go to games together, etc. It woud not surprise me if they do go to the same school and I'd have to say Miami and Florida are close with FSU in the wings.

Nick (Shrewsbury, PA)

It is beleived that it is an ND - USC race for WR Evans and DL Bonds. Do you see the Irish landing either of these recruits.

Bill Conley
  (3:16 PM)

ND is in the hunt and as already mentioned, USC and ND are fighting it out for Evans with USC leading. Bonds really seems confused and is tough to get a read on lately. He truly seems to be wide open.

Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)

Bill, What do you think of Trent Richardson will he be a good running back for Nick Saban?

Bill Conley
  (3:18 PM)

Trent Richardson is a great one. He has that great ability to run over defenders or race by them. He is tough to bring down and has great balance. Possesses the speed to get to the perimeter instantly. He should make the Tide roll in the future.

chris (fresno, CA)

what are the chances Notre Dame lands J. Jenkins or any of the top defensive guys left. Also do you see another top five class for ND.

Bill Conley
  (3:21 PM)

ND is really coming on strong and their season is helping out. They are already a solid top ten and if they land a few great ones like Jenkins, it would help out. There ae already several players from his area on the ND roster.

Jason (Corvallis, OR)

Bill, what are some prospects that the Beavers may end up landing? And also do you think the big win over #1 USC will help with recruiting?? Thanks!

Bill Conley
  (3:23 PM)

It definitely helps out to have a big win like that for recruiting purposes. They aren't going to beat USC for any recruits but it could help out against Oregon, Washington and WSU.

Bill Conley
  (3:24 PM)

It could also help out for in-state players like Siddoway and Lokombo.

Baseball Fan (Detroit)

William Campbell a silent verbal to Michigan? What's the story?

Bill Conley
  (3:25 PM)

I think he really wants to play defense but he may end up on the offensive side of the ball.

Pagel, Wadsworth

Does Ohio State have the room and are they still in on Marcus Hall and Corey Adams and if they get them how would you rank their class?

Bill Conley
  (3:26 PM)

They are still on them hard and I expect OSU to get at least one but possibly both of these guys.

Bill Conley
  (3:27 PM)

Where they end up depends on how the outstanding talent around the country is distributed atte end. They will definitely be in the top ten.

Andrew (Hoboken, NJ)

Give us an early top 5 of the 2010 prospects.

Bill Conley
  (3:29 PM)

QB Jake Heaps (Sammamish, Wa./Skyline) RB Marcus Lattimore (Duncan, S.C./Byrnes) RB Corey Brown (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) WR Jeremy Jackson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) S Marvin Robinson (Eagle Lake, Fla./Lake Region)

Bill Conley
  (3:31 PM)

Those guys are some food for thought. That's not really a ranking but some players that are already getting a lot of play. There are many more to go.

Dylan (Orlando, FL)

How is Florida's class shaping up for this year? I know they have has top classes under Urban Meyer, but I haven't heard much about this year's class.

Bill Conley
  (3:33 PM)

I wouldn't worry. They have ten solid players verbaled and they always finish strong.

Ben (Atlanta)

What is your opinion of Jonathan Davis of Tucker, GA? I know Georgia Tech is recruiting his as either a slot back/rover. He's small in stature, but many believe he is the best player in the State of Georgia this year. Thoughts?

Bill Conley
  (3:36 PM)

I don't think he is the best player in Georgia but he is a physical player that has good quickness. He really packs a punch.

Bill Conley
  (3:36 PM)

As usual, thanks for all the great questions. See you in the endzone!
