Greetings Fight Freaks! There's a lot of boxing this weekend, so there's plenty to discuss. And make sure you check out today's new notebook and two new blogs from today and yesterday. Let's get too it.
And don't forget that after tomorrow night's HBO BAD card to come back for a little late-night RAD chat!
It seems like a Berto vs Hatton fght may be plausable. Don't you feel that would be an exciting fight that would ultimately put Berto on the map with a big win?
That would be an interesting fight for sure, but I don't think that is on Ricky's radar right now. He's looking at a possible fight with DLH next spring. Berto is probably a long way from being possible.
D$$, I'm about to get off in a few hours and see the Pacman/DLH presser. Hope we have a good turnout. If PWill does indeed go back down to WW and fights Delvin Rodriguez, how do you see Delvin's chances in that fight?
Have a great time at the presser. I talked to foks from the NY and Chicago events and both went well and the fighters were well-received. I think Williams would be the obvious favorite against Delvin, but what I like about Delvin getting the fight, if he does, is that at least he's a fresh, up-and-coming guy, not a retread with no future like some of the guys being mentioned (like Baldomir or Lujan).
D$...Great idea on the blog; Mosely/Quartey would be NICE! Also agree that the Punisher should stay heavier, and that in time Williams/Pavlik could be a real war.
I had hoped Pavlik-Williams would have been made when it was being negotiated a few months ago. Hopefully, we will still see it down the road.
Let's get it out of the way. Who you got? HBK vs. Jericho in the Ladder Match
My heart is with HBK but I suspect Jericho retains.
Dan, decent stuff tonight on Telefutura and Shobox. Alvarado is always fun to watch. Can you tell us anything about the undefeated kids on Shobox?
I don't know a lot about the ShoBox guys but the fight has sold a lot of tickets because of the fact that some of the guys are local. It's always great when a local show can bring out the fans. Hometown support for local fighters is so important to growing boxing at the grass roots level.
Dan, no offense, but with limited HBO/Showtime dates, I have zero interest in seeing Ike Quartey. Give the dates to the young guys.
Quartey against a younger guy to test him would be just fine. But I also like the idea of a Quartey-Mosley fight -- two stars who never fought in what would be a good fight in my opinion.
Yo! Danorino! I'm going to the fights tonight here in the mile high city! Please give me your take on Mike Alvarado and the co feature Brandon Rios!
Have fun! Alvarado is a sleeper rising contender. He's been improving fight after fight after a somewhat limited amateur career. Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman has done a superb job moving him along and making the right fights for him. He's fighting Manuel Garnica, who has been in with a lot of experienced fighters and should provide Alvarado with a little bit of a test. Rios' opponent, from what I understand, was way overweight so I am not sure what is happening with that fight. But Rios is another Top Rank prospect who doesn't get a lot of hype but gets better each time out. His manager, Cameron Dunkin, is high on him and Dunkin knows talent.
I popped Vargas-Quartey in the DVD player last night Dan after reading your blog. Bazooka was a monster!! He looked so slow against Winky though and I feel that was b/c of his age and not the weight. Your thoughts?
Ike was an absolute beast in his best days. Watch his fights with solid contenders like Oba Carr or Tiger Jones or even the smaller Vince Phillips (when Phillips was still really good). Remember, when he fought Vargas, Ike was coming off like a 14-month layoff or so and still was in the fight all the way against Vargas on the best night of his career.
Danno, I read that Paul Williams might be fighting Delvin Rodriguez. While I like Williams, I think its a pretty solid fight and should be exciting. Delvin always makes for a good fight.
dan, what is your prediction for the JM Lopez vs. Cesar Figueroa fight?
Lopez ought to punish him and stop him inside 6-7 rounds.
Do you think Mayorga will ever fight regularly again, or is he stuck being a fringe name who gets to hype up fights for aging superstars?
I think Mayorga will definitely fight again. He will need the money.
So Dan - what should we expect out of Gamboa tomorrow night?
A knockout against an opponent, Ramirez, who has a great record but has not been tested. I think Gamboa's speed is going to give Ramirez a ton of problems.
What makes you think that Oscar-Pac will be any different then when Oscar cleaned Gatti's clock?
Let's see: Manny is much faster, a southpaw, Oscar is a lot older and slower. Manny is just a much better fighter than Gatti ever was.
After two fights with Forrest, and one with Tito, Oscar and Mosley, what does Mayorga do with his money that he needs to fight?
Blows it on nonsense.
Hey Dan what?s up, how about Berto vs. Bradley at 143.5. What do you think about this matchup?
Not bad but I dont really have much interest in that at this point. I'd lilke to see them both establish themselves more as champions in their weight classes and then if Bradley decides to move up, that would be a good fight in a couple of years.
Hi Dan!! What do you see next for Cotto?
He'll be back in February, maybe against Lujan, and then probably a rematch in the summer with Margarito.
Dan, since he put Diaz in a coma, do you think that Delvin will have a hard time pulling the trigger in his next fight? That would be very bad against someone like PWilliams.
I spoke to Delvin a couple of weeks ago when Diaz came out of his coma and he was very relieved. Delvin seems like a sensitive guy and I know he was concerened for Diaz. But with him out of the coma, I think it put Delvin's mind at considerable ease and that will make it a lot easier for him to go about his business and fight like he's supposed to fight.
Dan, do you think if Williams settled at 154 he would clean out the division?
I think that would be a distinct possibilty.
Sup Dan, who are your winners for the HBO "BAD" show?
I like Gamboa by knockout inside about five rounds, Angulo by mid-rounds KO and I'll take Bunema on the upset special via decision.
So now that Amir Khan is being trained by Freddy Roach, is there a chance that Khan will end up as a sparring partner for Manny?
I think it's possible. Amir will be in LA training in Manny's camp and Amir is a fast, tall fighter, who could give a bit of an Oscar look. I wouldn't be surprised if they do spar. It would certainly be good for Pacquiao and great experience for Khan.
I think that speaks to Delvin's character. While this is a sport made of violence, no boxer wants to permanently injure another.
Of course not. But fighters also know it's possible that it could happen. If it does happen, it is in the course of doing their job.
Dan, with Diaz out of a coma, is there any word on his progress with his motor skills? Will he have a close to normal life?
Other than Oscar coming out of the coma, there have been no other specific details.
Good Friday afternoon Rafa - looking forward to RAD tomorrow. Could you see a scenario where Paul Williams could face Arthur Abraham (assuming he gets through Marquez) at 160? Maybe for a title that Kelly Pavlik may have to vacate? or Abrahams? (obviously)
Anything is possible although that particular scenario would have to have some things happen to make it possible.
Did anything happen between Roach and Oscar, or is Roach just telling it like he sees it? He's thrown quite a few barbs at a guy he just trained a year ago in his biggest payday.
I think Freddie is still a little ticked off at how he was replaced, that he never heard it from Oscar or anyone at Golden Boy. Honestly, I think the way he found out he was out as Oscar's trainer was from me when I called him to ask him about it and he didn't know.
hey dan how are you buddy, hey did you see oscar and the pac man? wow does oscar already look in shape or what? oscar is already at 150 and manny still at 154 interesting isnt but i cant wait forthe fight
I think if you put them on a scale today, Manny would weigh more than Oscar.
Ok so seeing Leonard Ellerbee Ringside Sat night gave me a sneaky suspicion that he and F**** may have been scouting. Your Thoughts?
I wouldn't read too much into it. Leonard is a boxing fan and has a good relationship with Golden Boy, which promoted the fight.
Hey Dan, any idea when the Taylor/Lacy tickets will go on sale in Nashville? I'm stoked and can't wait to make the trip.
They had a press conference in Nashville yesterday to officially announce the card and tickets have gone on sale.
dan, give us some info on that bunema pick that would be a huge upset in my mind.
Bunema has been fighting good opponents recently, has been a little more active and has a lot of confidence right now after his wins. I think it will be a competitive fight but just have a funny feeling that Bunema might get it done.
Is Travis Walker still the likely opponent for Chris Arreola?
Dan: Great notebook! I am glad to see Soto getting back in action.. what do you think the chances are that Lorenzo gets back in the ring with him??? Mandatory or not, he wants nothin to do with another but whoopin! That fight never happens, right?
I suspect that Soto-Lorenzo 2 will have a way of not happening.
On Saturday night Margarito was mobbed by fans like only Chavez and Tyson get mobbed. He never stopped smiling the whole time. It's great to see him get his recognition
It is. Margarito has worked hard for it and I know he must be savoring it.
Dan, I don't want to get my hopes up, but since King and company came to an agreement with Cunningham fighting in December, any chance Devon Alexander gets on the card?
I would say it's possible but it's not in the works at the moment. I just spoke to Devon's manager, Kevin Cunningham, yesterday and will be blogging about our conversation in the next couple of days.
Dan, if F**** does come out of retirement, which alot of us think he will, who do you think his first opponent will be? DLH, Hatton, Mosely?
Not Hatton but certainly DLH or Mosley would figure to be the guy.
Dan da Man, please offer your opinion on this- my contention is that Oscar DLH is not a great fighter ( very famous and polarizing yes) because he never beat a great fighter in his prime Close against Tito, close with Moseley, Sweet pea and Chavez were way past prime
I think we've been over this about 4,557,903 times in these chats. Go read the old transcripts.
What was your scorecard like before the Shane TKO?
I had Shane up 7-4.
What's up dan? In your scorecard you wrote that Guillermo Jones had "lost a very debatable split decision to future titleholder Steve Cunningham", aren't you afraid of the wrath of Marc from Philly?
No. I have the tape and it was very debatable.
Any chance you make it to Newark for Cunningham-Adamek. The Prudential Center is supposed to be top notch
I am planning to go up for that fight.
hey dan, regarding dlh. i can't remember the last time oscar fought a south paw. do you think his decision to go with nacho is because of his experience fighting against pacman twice and casamayor??
That was certainly part of it. It's been awhile since Oscar fought a lefty. I think last time was Camacho and before that Whitaker.
In the latest Ring, they have an article about who from the current generation is headed to the HOF. They say Winky and Hatton are definites, and Chris Byrd is probably in. Do you agree with this?
Not to say how I would personally vote, and I do hold a vote, but I think Winky and Hatton both will be elected and that Byrd won't be.
If Manny got past Oscar, don't you think that he would be an option for F****? Personally, I would love to see that fight.
If Manny beats Oscar, yes, that would be a huge, huge, huge, huge, freakin' huge fight.
Speaking of scorecards... I saw a replay of the Tua-Ibabauchi fight, great action and fight! How did you score it?
I don't remember my exact score, but I had Tua winning close.
When can we expect the final undercard to be announced for DLH vs. Pacman?
No set date but Top Rank and Golden Boy are working on it. Victor Ortiz almost certainly be in one TV fight and Arum told me that if JM Lopez wins this weekend he would also likely be on the undercard. That would leave one more TV fight.
I know you're not surprised Oscar will continue to fight after Pacquiao, but are you surprised he confirmed this before this fight? I find it refreshing actually that he did this before getting all the retirement celebration.
Not at all. Oscar said the same thing two weeks ago in Vegas.
It's wonderful that Diaz made it out of his coma...but it makes me wonder about Victor Burgos. I never heard either way on him...do you know whether he made it or not?
My understanding is that Burgos is doing OK, living with his family in Mexico. I don't think he's 100 percent but he's OK from what I have heard.
Hey Dan I have Molsey going in the hall of fame do you?
100%. I will vote for him on the first ballot.
Sup Dan, I see from the Notebook that Williams' people are now looking at fighting Delvin Rodriguez now that the Verno Phillips fight fell through. Would HBO sign off on such an underwelming fight...?
Williams-Rodriguez is not an underwhelming fight at all.
D-Nice, are we any closer to a site for Mijares-Vic??
It likely will be at the Home Depot Center tennis arena, same place where Mosley-Mayorga took place. That is what Lou DiBella, Mijares' co-promoter, told me this week.
Dan, so lets say Hatton loses his fight with Paulie, will he still plan on fighting DLH or Pacman? If DLH wins, which i think he will, it would be pointless for him to face Hatton.
I think if Hatton loses to Paulie there won't be an Oscar fight.
Speaking of Berto considering 140, did you hear the interview w/ Bradley where he says he may drop to 135 because thats where the money is? Might be interesting...
I did hear that. Sure it would be interesting because lightweight is so loaded.
D$ - Speaking of hometown support. The turnout for LA's Shane Mosley was quite sad at the Home Depot Center.
Downright pathetic. Unfortunately, Shane has never been a big draw as an A-side. The fight would have actually drawn more had it been in New York or AC. Shane has always had a good following on the East Coast. It didn't help that Golden Boy did such a poor job promoting the fight.
Please tell me that Yuri Foreman isn't going to be on the PPV portion of Pavlik vs. Hopkins
His fight is off TV, fear not.
Hey Dan, what fight are you looking forward to most on HBO saturday night?
Probably Angulo-Tsurkan or Bunema-Martinez.
Holy crap, for whatever reason I had never though of a F**** vs. Pac-man fight. That would be freaking awesome. That just gave me reason to cheer for Pacquioa. Do you think the jewel-less F**** will seriously concider such a fight?
If he comes back and if it makes dollars, it makes sense.
Is Nate Campbell now looking at a rematch with Juan Diaz?
Hey Dan, In you blog you spoke about Paul Williams staying up at middleweight while in the notebook it says that he may fight Delvin Rodriguez. Whats a freak to believe?
In the blog I wrote that I personally thought he should stay at at middle or go to jr middle. In the notebook, I wrote what is actually in the works, which is a welter fight.
If anyone went the Guzman v. Campbell debacle, you can go to the box office at the Beau Rivage and get a complete refund. All you need to do is bring your ticket stubs to the box office. This can be accomplished in person or through the mail.
Good to know.
Who is your pick for the contender? I have to go with Ding.
Tough to say and I don't know any results yet from the taped shows but I think Wilson, Troy Ross and Cora might do well.
Dan, do you think the Love Child has a chance against Angulo or Kirkland?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the grounded Love Child. If Joel Julio beats Dzindziruk for his belt I'd love to see him defend against either guy. I think they're all toss up fights.
Dan, I saw you reporting that Judah is thinking about heading to 140, any follow up information on his next move?
There's nothing new other than he is considering it. I told him to call me when he makes a decision.
King Dan: Last week I asked if PWill was avoiding Clottey. You said no, bad money and promoter issues. However I read this week, that Clottey's camp has made an official offer and HBO would be interested, which means money.$$ With Verno out, it has to be his best option, after talking all that smack about cleaning out the Welters!!
There is not enough money on that date to satisfy both sides to make the fight. Period.
Hopefully you don't jinx Vitali by constantly mentioning his health. The man could get a hangnail at any moment!
Dan, buy or sell: Gamboa fights for a belt at feather by the end of 2009
I will definitely call you, I am a huge fan of the batphone.
Danno, I was a big Quartey fan in the day and guess I still am. What would be the ultimate goal for him to come back at his age. He's financially set so what would motivate him?
I think like a lot of fighters, he's a competitive athlete who enjoys boxing.
More devastating uppercut: Zab Judah's against Cosme Rivera or Andre Berto against Miguel Rodriguez?
Both were sick shots, but I will take the Berto shot.
What do you make of David Haye stating that he will retire if he loses to Monte Barrett? (he seems serious when he's stated this)
I make nothing of it other than typical fighter BS.
Dan, when will the official date of DLH-PacMan be announced? I want to get some tickets to that one!
Are you an idiot?
In the notebook you list Martinez/Bunema as the opening bout (of the the telecast) but in Pechanga's promotional materials it is getting top billing. What gives?
According to HBO, the order of the live telecast is Bunema-Martinez followed by Angulo-Tsurkan followed by Gamboa-Ramirez.
Dan - instead of my usual spot at my desk in Seattle, I'm coming to you LIVE from McCormick Place in Chicago, at a trade show, on my laptop. Viva my Version wireless card!
Any word on verus getting the Cunningham vs Adamek fight
Someone didn't read today's notebook or blog.
Whats up Dan, Do you have Raul Marquez any chance of beating Arthur Abraham tomorrow? Raul seems to be a great guy but faces a bigger hard hitting opponent who seems to be in his prime.
Raul is a great guy but I give him virtually no chance to win.
Wassup Dan?? Great call on Alyssa Milano -- she's amazing. REMINDER TO ALL FREAKS TO CHECK THE FIGHT SCHEDULE BEFORE ASKING TIME-WASTING QUESTIONS!
DanDan - are you watching the showtime fights tonight?
Do I ban someone every week?
Corey - click on me please - - you might learn something
Wow, Jason from Seattle! That is so exciting! Could you tell us what you're having for lunch today??!! Please!!????
Danimal, who do you like in a bout between Nate Campbell and Humberto Soto?
I'd love to see that fight. I would favor Nate but not by much.
Is Lennox Lewis in your top 10 heavyweights of all time?
Has Calzaghe defeated anyone of real talent other than Kessler and an aging Hopkins?
Joe has beaten plenty of quality opponents. Maybe not great fighters, but very solid guys like Eubank, Woodhall, Sheika, Mitchell, Brewer, Lacy, etc... Do some homework.
Dan. Do you still think that we have seen the most upside we will see on Vicente Escobedo? Love the way he finished Salcido.
I thought the way he rallied to finish him in that fight was a tuning point in Escobedo's career. I'm sure he has gained a ton of confidence because of that win.
Is Kessler being the top S. Middleweight in the world an error on your rankings?
No. Now that Calzaghe has officially vacated his titles and is staying at 175, Kessler is the best of the division even if his fights since losing to Joe don't excite anyone.
Why does Antwun Echols keep fighting? Does he really need money that bad?
He needs it bad. He literally has like 15 kids and no skills to do anything but fight or steal.
Buy or Sell? Pavlik never fights Abraham and ducks him through 2009!
Buy. I am skeptical that fight happens.
Dan, I'm curious, do organizations like Golden Boy and Top Rank have large staffs of people making and putting on these shows or do they run a surprisingly thin ship?
Those two companies have staffs of people that do all sorts of things. Top Rank, for example, this week alone has some folks in Puerto Rico for the Lopez fight, some folks in Denver for the Telefutura fight and other traveling with Pacquiao on the press tour.
Can you settle a debate...who would of won the rematch between Lennox Vs. Vitali....do you agree that Lennox was kicking his butt before their 1st fight was haulted?
Lennox had some hard moments early but he was in command by the time it was stopped and I believe he was going to knock Vitali out. I was at that fight too -- what a great fight.
Nice comment on Echols.... "...no skills to do anything but fight or steal." That might be my all-time favorite quote from you Dan.
I aim to please.
C'mon Dan, give Antwun some credit. Being from Davenport I can tell you that he has a knack for being shot at outside of Save-A-Lots...
Where does Taylor go if he beats Lacy and vice versa? Who are their possible next opponents?
If either guy wins there should be all sorts of potential fights. Super middleweight is a nice division right now. Maybe a Kessler fight, maybe Bute would come to the US.
Dan Im taking Bunema by TKO. His KO over Mathysse was one of the more underrated KO's of the year.
That was a great knockout.
Kessler/Bute - any interest?
Sure, would like to see a fight like that.
I know that Taylor beat Hopkins twice, and held the middleweight title for a minute, but wouldn't you characterize his career as a bit disappointing?
Did anybody from the general public have the opportunity to purchase tickets for Pac vs Oscar other than ticket resell companies?
Yes, plenty of people bought tickets on Ticketmaster. But a lot of people were shutout also.
Why is Sam Peter training in Germany? DOes he normally have camp here in the U.S.
The fight is in Germany and Peter wanted to be used to the weather and time zone. Makes sense.
Manny vs. F**** for the undisputed P4P championship. Love it!
Hi Dan , I am a huge boxingfan but my biggest problem is that there is no way for me to watch the big PPV events over here in sweden. I have searched all the chanels possible and all the pay per views but with no luck. Is there any boxingsite where I could watch the biggest PPV matches like Hopkins Pavlik and Roy jones jr Calzaghe ??? I dont mind paying.
Unfortunately, you're probably out of luck. But if you search the Internet you may be able to find bootleg streams of fights.
I don't know how anybody can call TAYLOR's career disappointing. The only thing happened to him was to lose to PAVLIK.
Exactly. People are too quick to label a guy disappointing after a loss or even two.
I know you're going to disagree with me here, but if Manny beats DLH I think a Manny/F**** fight does more business then DLH/F****
I dont agree at all.
Who is the #5 ranked Flyweight on your list? Can you spell his name without looking?
Child's play: Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.
You probably can't put this up, but channelsurfing.net has PPV fights on there sometimes. It also has the feeds of most pro sports games too.
my career wasn't disappointing although I lost to Roy Jones early in my career.
And your pro debut.
is the solis fight on HBO on Oct11?
Hi Dan, why is it that Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather, JM Marquez and a lot of good boxers out there wants a piece of Manny Pacman?
You ever hear of this thing called money?
Dan, what do u see as Hopkins' biggest threat to Pavlik? The overhand right over Pavliks jab? Is that the only way he can catch him?
That is one thing, but Bernard's best attribute is his defense and ring smarts.
Any closer to Holt-Torres being signed for 12/5?
It's still being discussed.
Tecate is gonna do that buy a 12 pack promo again for the DLH fight, thats awesome.
Yes, I heard that, which is good news.
Mijares moves into your top 5 if he knocks out Darchinyan. True of false?
Unlikely to move that high at this point.
Dan-o, got a quick question for ya. What is the outcome to Mijares Vs Darchinyan? Do you give Darchinyan a chance in this one?
Vic of course has that big puncher's chance. But I think Mijares' skills will pay the bills.
Any word if Juan Diaz and JMM are going to fight?
Nothing definitive. I know it's something many people have talked about and it's an obvious fight but I don't know of any specific negotiations at this point.
Hey DTM will we see Nate Campbell fight before the years over?
Hopefully, he will. There are few things being discussed.
What did the VP debate and Ricky Hatton have in common?
There's only one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's up with the Roy vs Joe PPV Undercard? Looks like crap, Salita vs TBA?!?!? For such popular fighters, thats terrible!!!
They're struggling right now with it and so far it looks horrible. Hopefully, they'll put something credible together.
What's being discussed for Showtime in January?
Hearns-Duddy, as we have discussed.
I enjoy watching both Abraham and JuanMa Lopez fight, but I'm a little wary of their cards on Sat. Think they might be blowouts with weak undercards. What do you think? And if you had to choose one, which would it be?
If you read my blog today you would know I agree. If I had to pick one, I would go with the Abraham fight. It's 10 bucks cheaper and I am more interested in seeing Abraham than Lopez. And even though I don't give either opponent much of a shot, I'd rather watch Raul Marquez than Cesar Figueroa.
I though Hearns-Duddy is going to be on BAD?!
You're right. Not sure what Showtime is doing in January.
Never thought I'd see the day when MAB fights on an undercard in China.
Sad isn't it?
Never gets old. Thanks, you made my day!!!!
Now get back to work.
Dan, are Raul Marquez, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Rafael Marquez all brothers, or just the last two?
No, Rafael and Juan Manuel are brothers. Raul is not related.
Excited for the Cunningham/Adamek fight at the Prudential Center - it's a great building - easy train ride, which means adult beverages without fear of driving home - hopefully we get some more fights there after this one.
Heya Dan...Wat did u think of Antonio Margarito being named the WBA's Super Champion at Welterweight, without even unifying. Bring on more of the sanctioning fees.
Purely disgusting. If I could vomit on them from Virginia to the Domican, I would do it.
Give anyone give me details to this Tecate promo of 25 bucks off the ppv fight? I live in AZ and I remember someone saying that for the Marquez fight but when I went to the store to go buy my 12 pack I didn't see anything about this promo.
The promotion goes like this -- you buy a 12-pack and you can get a rebate for half off the ppv.
I thought that Duddy's fights were exclusive to MSG network in the US. Was that ever the case or is that agreement up?
Who will be the HBO commentators for Saturday?
Lennox, Max and Jim Lampley will be filling in for Bob Papa.
What were your impressions of Guillermo Jones from last weekend's fight with Aslan?
Jones is really good and looked excellent in beating the crap out of Arslan.
I enjoy watching Librado Andrade fight, because of his relentless style, but I don't know much about Bute. Do you think Andrade has a chance for the upset?
I think Bute should be a big favorite. But, like you said, Andrade never stops coming, so that is what he will need to do -- pressure, pressure, pressure and try to wear Bute out. But Bute is much more skilled, faster and has a big advantage fighting in Montreal.
before you i get banned i ask this as a notre dame fan lol...what is up with tommy zibikoski's career? has he even fought other than that one time?
Just that one time.
I might have missed Jorge Linares on the schedule. Anything more definite planned for him?
Nothing scheduled for him yet, but at least he's back in the gym training and hopefully his injuries are behind him.
When and against who does Clottey defend his belt?
TBA. Nothing scheduled. However, I would expect that he will land on either Cotto's or Margarito's next undercard in January or February.
With the promotion non existant at this point, do you tink that RJJ and Joe are starting to understand the importance of having a promoter?
I think they're learning.
MadDAN '09 - I've been reading a lot about how Mosley has lost some speed and power. I thought he looked solid against Mayorga, and would love to see him take on Margarito. If that fight is made, what kind of chance do you give SSM ? Thanks.
Dan, any chance Cotto/Margarito fight on the same card or that won't work?
That has been brought up and talked about, but at the end of the day, they'll probably wind up on separate shows.
I dont like Tecate, I only drink 60 beers that have flavor, like Killians Now I must go run 6 miles after drinking a 12 pack, burp!
what do you think of berto fighting judah?? do you think this will happen??
Judah is one of the possible opponents DiBella has mentioned for the future. Would be an interesting fight in my opinion. Zab fought well against Clottey even though he didn't win. Zab is fast and an excellent puncher as well.
This might sound sick, but how about putting Alfonso Gomez in with Berto, I would watch it.
Do you have something against Gomez?
Dan I'm going to my first card tomorrow! SUPER STOKED!!! Any advice?
Don't spill your beer.
I was happy to see Dirrell v Organov on the undercard of the Mijares fight. A) Do you think they will air it and B) Isn't it highly likely that Dirrell does the same thing Zuniga did to him?
Dirrell's fight is supposed to open the telecast. As for B, I think that is what Dirrell's people hope.
Hey Dan, was wondering if the outdoor arena at Ceasers Palace still exist? There were some great fights at 147-154 there back in the Duran,Haglar,Hearns, sugar ray days.
The old one you are thinking about is long gone. It was an arena that was only temporary -- they would construct it event by event.
Dan, all time fight... Does Bob Foster KO RJJ at 175?
Foster was a great fighter and I think at 175, he would drill Roy. Foster is one of the best punchers ever p4p.
I have some advice for Jeremiah. Dont drink too much beer because you will have to get up alot to use the restroom and miss some action. I learned the hard way a couple weeks ago here and missed two knockouts! lol
Did Bernard Hopkins really learn how to box in jail?
I think he had boxed before jail, but, yes, he did learn more in jail.
Really pumped for the Pavlik-Hopkins fight coming up. Do you see this one going the distance? With a Pavlik win is there ANY shot we get to see Pavlik v Calzaghe? And who would you give the edge to in that match-up? Friday special, three questions for the price of one!
I do think it probably goes 12. If Calzaghe beats Jones and Pavlik beats Hopkins, I think there is a very good chance for a Calzaghe-Pavlik fight.
I think in last week's chat you mentioned that the N'Dou / Cintron fight will not be televised. Am I crazy for being interested in that fight?
It's an interesting fight for Freaks, but still won't be on the HBO telecast. Perhaps, they'll show highlights.
Dan, If Pavlik, Pacman, and Calzaghe all win their fights, who do you think will be FOY?
Depends how the fights go. But certainly all three would be in the picture.
Why don't they sanction Triple Threat boxing matches? It's brilliant!
King Dan: I read that King Arthur is really struggling to make the Middle weight limit. With Pavlik looking upwards, do you see Abrhah following him up? There are a lot more big fights for both moving up.
I dont think there is any doubt that Abraham will eventually campaign at super middle. His last fight was at 166 when he crushed Miranda in their rematch.
One thing i liked about Jermain taylor was for a couple years there he went directly from big fight to big fight. Why cant that happen more often. Just because somone is in a good fight doesnt mean they need to step down the competition for a while, right?
Right, although I dont think Taylor's fights with Ouma and Spinks were big fights.
Will you be watching both PPV's tomorrow? I'm excited about Abraham's fight just to get another look at him. He looked sensational against Miranda!
Yes, I will watch both. But I am more excited for the No Mercy PPV on Sunday, which has more competitive fights.
Did you once say that Pavlik could be a heavyweight?
OK, Freaks, thanks for the chat today. Enjoy the blogs and notebook and this weekend's fights. Report back here tomorrow night around midnight (in other words, after the HBO card) and we can discuss all the fights of the day. And after that, I will talk to you next week from Las Vegas, where I will be covering Tarver-Dawson. Peace.
