Good morning gang... let's get started with some fantasy football chattage, shall we?
Will it be Tynes or Carney this week? Both still available in my league. Thanks.
Normally I avoid kicker Q's, but let's face it... they get hurt like anyone else. I'd avoid the whole situation since there's no guarantee of any stats even if Tynes is good to go, which I believe will be the case.
Would you sit Addai if you could start Thomas Jones, Le'Ron McClain and Ronnie Brown instead?
I'm not going anywhere near Addai this week. The Ravens D has been good, better than last season when they held him under 40 yards. More of the same.
It sounds like Colsten was at practice yesterday. If he plays this weekend, what are you expecting from him?
If he plays, I expect 4-60 or something in that neighborhood. Certainly Brees is going to target him frequently. The problem isn't production, it's simply whether or not he feels good enough to play, and it's likely to be one of those decisions you'll need to make at 12:50 on Sunday.
Was offered R.Grant for McFadden, Accept or reject?
I'll stand pat. McFadden's foot issues are frustrating, but at least that's a valid excuse for some pretty mediocre performances. Grant has no such excuses, and I'd be ready to trade him away myself.
Got a bye week dilemma. I still have Hixon on my roster (for Cotchery's bye; have Ward on bye this week). Should I drop him for Koren Robinson since I hear he'll be starting this week? Or, is Hixon in for a decent week?
Hixon isn't likely to have a phenomenal day like last week with Burress back, but he's earned a WR3 role. If it were 2003, I'd say go with Koren. Could he start this week? Sure. Do I think he does any better than Keary Colbert? No.
Hey A.J. who do you like better as a flex play this week, McClain. Lance Moore or McAllister? Non-PPR, Thanks.
McClain. Ravens should be able to run on Indy, and if Colston comes back then Moore's value takes a hit. Deuce is not being used in NO for some unknown reason, so I'd go with Le'Ron who will likely see more touches than McAllister.
Hi AJ. I have to drop Kevin Curtis, Deion Branch, or the Pittsburgh D/ST this week to field a full roster. Who should it be?
I'd drop Branch. He's going to have injury issues all season, and at some point this team may simply pack it in.
pick two Kevin Walter, Tory Holt,Roy Williams, Devrey Henderson, or Robert Meachem for this week
I go with Holt and Walter. Though there's not a one on that list I think is heads and shoulder above or below any other for this week.
AJ With Scheffler out do I pick up Donald Lee or Nate Jackson?
I'd take a shot with Lee.
Do you expect Tory Holt to do well this week?
Off a bye week, with Bulger back, if he's going to bounce back, this will be the week. The problem is that he did a little bit better with Trent Green at the controls. I'm not sure the coaching change changes the end results.
What are your thoughts on the Raiders running game? Fargas, McFadden, and Bush have all shown an ability to run well behind a strong line, but how does it shake out as fantasy playoff time rolls around?
Assuming health for all, in a perfect world, eventually McFadden takes over the bulk of the carries. But since Al Davis is calling the shots, he could decide tomorrow that Fargas is actually Marcus Allen in disguise and he is to get 100 percent of the carries. I think it can change on a dime, and we have no way of knowing this one.
Would you ever make a trade with the team you were playing that week? The team I'm playing has Warner and McNabb at QB (both have week 7 byes). I'd like to offer Rodgers for Warner, do I make the offer this week or wait until after I beat him this week?
If I'm making a deal, I'm doing so to make my team better. So why wouldn't I want to do it immediately?
ORTON? Do I start him over Palmer this week? Schaub is my other option. Thanks!
I think I go with Palmer this week. He has talented receivers, even if they are underperforming, and the Jets don't exactly put the clamp on opposing QBs. Kurt Warner anyone?
Dynasty trade Question... I receive Dustin Keller for Edgerrin James. Is it worth trading the 'Now' for the 'Future'?
In this case, I'm not so sure it's giving up on the now so much. Hightower's presence is slowly rendering James obsolete.
Forte for LT? who would you take for the rest of the year. I can't believe I'm asking this question, but the toe issue has really changed things. What do you think?
I still go with LDT, but yes, this question is not as absurd as you would have thought Week 1. I still need to see Forte in cold weather do the job, and I'm not sold on Orton maintaining this balanced attack.
Folks... my computer is acting a bit funny... so if for some reason we slow down a bit, I apologize. Hopefully, we'll be able to get through...
Manning vs Ravens....or Frerrote vs Lions?
"You have to start Peyton Manning" would be the answer most folks would type. And if I have both, he's who I start, because why draft him if you don't start him every week? But the better matchup and the likely better day? Gus. It all depends if you're gutsy enough to pull the trigger, and willing to live with being woefully wrong.
Somehow, despite being 1st in receiving, 1st in rushing and 2nd in passing and being favored by 10 to 20 points every week I am sitting at 1-4! Is it common for good teams to miss the playoffs due to bad luck or should I expect things to turn around for me?
Yes and no. Good teams sometime get unlucky. It's part of the game. You can have score #2 for every week and finish 0-for the season. And you shouldn't *expect* it to change. Odds are it will even out, but hey, you never know. Point is, as long as you start your best lineup each week, there's not much more you can do.
Good Morning AJ, In this week's projections, MB3 is only projected to get 8 points, while Felix has 11. What is going on here? Should I even consider starting Felix over Marion?
What you have to understand is that TD predictions can skew everything. The way to use the projections is to look at carries and yards, and leave those 6 point swings out of the equation. If you do that, you'll get a better feel for it all.
My owner is benching me behind Willis McGahee, Antwaan Randle El and Tory Holt. Is he crazy? (ppr league)
Sorry guys... had to reboot. But I am back.
The last question was about Deuce, and well, he SHOULD be getting more touches, but he isn't. Until the Saints start to use him more, he's not worth starting.
Should I really play Thomas Jones and Julius Jones over Addai?
Yes, you should. I mean, the Colts haven't exactly looked good of late (take away 4 minutes vs Houston) and Baltimore is a formidable foe. Not worth the risk IMO.
Is it too early to be thinking about the playoffs. I'm undefeated in one league and one loss in another with Michael Turner in both. His matchups in the playoffs are awful (TB and Min). Have good running back depth in each league. Should I try to trade for a guy with a good matchup those weeks even if I lose the trade?
And what happens when the guy you trade him for breaks his leg in Week 12? Look, I'm all for selling high and upgrading, but trying to project which matchups are truly good or bad for your players weeks in advance is a fool's errand.
You have to give your computer a red bull--haha~! Braylon Edwards for Lendale White...fair trade?
LOL. I don't think it's even talent-wise, but if you don't think Edwards and Cleveland snaps out of it, and want to get SOMETHING for Braylon, I wouldn't veto the deal. Edwards SHOULD be a Top-5 receiver, and White is nowhere near that level of fantasy goodness should Cleveland start scoring.
You say start PManning over other options with better matchups, not great qbs but average, compared to a Mcclain at RB whos turned into an average RB, fantasy wise. I am assuming cause if someone has him, they drafted him as there #1, so you roll with him...Would that not apply to Addai? You say sit him over Mcclain? Thanks
Fair point, Adam. But I think it's different for RBs. If a QB is facing what amounts to a tough defense, and he falls behind, the likely result is a lot of passing to catch up late and a huge padding of his final stats due to garbage time/prevent D passes. A RB in the same situation gets fewer touches and his early failures build on themselves. That's why I have a different attitude there.
Would you start Toomer over Muhammad this week? Would I be smart if I dropped Sea Def and picked up Car Def?
I would start Muhammad. Toomer is a decent flex type guy, but with Plax back and the emergence of Hixon, I'm not sure he gets a lot of looks, especially if the G-Men run up the score early on the Browns and go to run run run. Dumping the Hawks however is a sage move.
Westbrook a buy low now?
If you can get him away from his owner for 75 cents on the dollar, absolutely. But remember, it's not what you or I think, it's what hos owner thinks, b/c that's the only person who can determine his value in your league.
Trade Reggie Bush for Colston? I cant seem to get Bush in the line-up. He just sits on my bench.
In PPR, Bush is like the #1 RB, so I'll assume that you're not in one. Certainly it's far better to have a top-WR than a not being used Bush sitting in reserve. Go ahead and deal.
AJ, are you still a Reality TV junkie!!!!!...and who's the darkhorse on Survivor (the pin-up girl maybe)?? Also, this week QB starter Hasselbeck, Orton, Schaub, or Gus? (sorry, just threw up in my mouth a little).
I know what you mean on the QB front. I'm going to pick Orton here (did I really just type that?) Oh my. And I think the Olympic medalist is the dark horse on Survivor. She's strong enuf to win immunities and the other, stronger tribe's power base is not imposing. Once Ace gets booted, I think she's golden.
Me or Wes Welker at the flex?
You, because of Selvin's injury.
What Manning should I start?
The way this week's matchup set up, I'd go with Eli.
I struggle every week choosing between the Giants and Eagles D. Which one do you like more this week and do I have a clear starter between them?
Assuming you get enough points for sacks and turnovers, I'd go with Philly. But both are facing favorable matchups, and should be near the top for the week.
AMAZING RACE is the best reality show on TV..true or false? Also, Which of these players should I cut? Darren Sproles(don't have LT), Chris Perry, Kevin Smith, Mewelde Moore, or Harrison? I have Tony Gonz on a bye in 10 team league...do I just cut him?
No. Keep Gonzo. I'd cut Smith or Moore. FWP will be back and Moore's value will return to near nil, and the Lions can't run the ball. And while I like TAR, I cannot find a single person to root for this season... they're all either too jerky, annoying or brain dead.
It seems like you guys dont like the projections either, so why even have them?
On the contrary, I think our projections are quite accurate and helpful... if you take the TDs out of the mix because while I think it's very helpful to know that Player X is getting 15 carries for 60 yards, which usually pans out... it's impossible for anyone to predict TDs. Go ahead and try... pick one non-Qb for each team this week to get a score, and see how many you get right.
Dallas and his mom are the team to root for...they are classy! NYJ D, Indy D, or SD D this week?
Are they? They've gotten close to zero screen time, and this notion of "helping everyone" is sure to backfire. Yawn! I go with SD D this week, though none of the matchups thrill me. Cassel is bound to get pressured.sacked and make a few mistakes.
Why is Gostkowski not ranked this week? Chargers D has been pretty bad this year.
Flip a coin with kickers my friend. Team A scores 42 points. Kicker gets 6. Team B score 6 points. Kicker gets 6 (and maybe more depending on distance bonuses).
Is Sproles worth owning if you don't have LT?
You're certainly not going to start him if LDT is playing, but perhaps he's VERY valuable as trade bait to the guy who does have LDT.
what's with all the "do I start Def A or DEF B" questions...? There's a reason why you wait until the last round of the draft to pick one....THEY DON'T REALLY MATTER!!! Trade Grant for Eli Manning...?
I agree you don't DRAFT them early, Tom. But there's a huge difference between starting Tennessee and Detroit. Once the season is under way, they can matter plenty. And yes, I do that trade yesterday.
Need to pick one to start from Engram, Megatron or Reg. Brown....leaning Engram....???
Engram's OK. I might lean Brown, but it's a close call between the two. Not going with Megatron though, at least not with that possible QB mess.
I DESPERATELY need a win this week! Who should I start at Flex? DeSean Jackson, Braylon, Coles, Berrian or Edge?
Desperate men go with biggest upside and take risks. Jackson's return potential elevates him to top of that list.
Pick two: Gore, Portis, or Turner.
This week sit Gore.
start the drafted guy or the free agent guy? Calvin Johnson vs. Devrey Henderson and Jonathon Stewart vs. LeRon McClain
Start the best guy. Again, once the season starts, who really cares, right? Unless you get extra points for the FA guy simply by virtue of him being a FA. I go Calvin b/c Henderson is all or nothing and if Colston is back, nothing is more likely. And I go McClain.
Thanks guys... close to 4000 Qs this week, and we got to as many as we could, and even went a little overtime to make up for the mid-chat snafu. Another chat looms at 3pm. We'll see you the next time on Villa Allegre! Ciao!
