Good afternoon and welcome. I am surprised you are still with us with the 1-4 record. I apologize and will try to get back on the right track at the end of the hour. At the rate things are going, I will need a bailout. I will promise not to spend money at some resort if I get a bailout.
Why is Charles Scott listed on a lot Heisman lists and Evan Royster is not? Royster has better numbers, the teams are both undefeated, and up until now, Penn State has played a tougher schedule. I by no means think Royster should be in consideration...but fail to see why Scott is.
It is still early. Royster has played well and Penn State is unbeaten. He will get consideration.
Beano, I have been reading your chats and listening to your podcasts for the last couple weeks, and you have been hating on Mizzou. Did this past weeks win give you any more respect for the Tigers?
Number one, I do not dislike Missouri. I thought what the Tigers did to Nebraska was unbelievable. Remember, Lee Corso picked Missouri to play for the national title. The Schwab has one of the Tiger jerseys and he told me he wore it on TV last week. Missouri has Oklahoma State and Texas in the next two weeks, and that will tell us a lot. Let's get one thing straight -- Missouri is a very good team in a very tough league! I have respect for what Gary Pinkel has done.
Beano, can you believe the Miami Hurricanes are in sole posession of last place in the ACC and looking up to Duke?
That does come as a surprise. Maybe the school gave up too early on Larry Coker. At Duke, the basketball team is becoming proud of the football team, but will it last.
Beano, I know it is early, but with the way Florida States defense is playing and the offense improving every week. Do you think they can beat Florida and their one dimensional offense at the end of the year?
Yeah, because the game is in Talahassee and two years ago the game was close. Bobby Bowden's team seems to be back on track after the loss to Wake Forest. By the way, is the World Series over yet? I can't wait for the NBA season to start to watch the Hawks battle the Nuggets.
Is it unreasonable to think a 2-3 Oregon State team should be favored to make the Rose Bowl? By my calculations they should be favored in every game for the rest of the season, with the USC tie breaker.
It is possible. I know the USC game is the tiebreaker, but don't make reservations yet.
Beano, do you know what a "write-off is" because Cosmo Kramer says the Post office writes things off all of the time.
I let Elaine do my paperwork.
Paul Johnson is doing a hell of a job at GT so far. If the Jackets can beat Clemson next weekend, do you see them winning 9 games?
Yes, it is possible. I am not saying that Tech will. It is unlikely Tech will win at Georgia, but it is possible. The Clemson game is a big one for the Yellow Jackets.
Beano you have now lived through 2 depressions. Which one is worse?
Reading your material.
Is there a defense in the nation that can slow down either Missouri or Oklahoma and who would it be?
Penn State. I have a lot of respect for Missouri, Oklahoma. Texas and Oklahoma State, and the two games in the Big 12 featuring those teams this weekend should be interesting.
Is there a reason you never pick USC, considering they have finshed no worse than 4th the last 6 years? East coast bias at its best.Pitt and
USC is usually favored and I pick a lot of underdogs. How can you not like USC and the song girls.
Wouldn't you say at this point in the season that the ACC is tougher than the Big 10?
Two weeks ago I would not have said it. I may agree now. The Big Ten actually has been stronger than it has been in recent years. The ACC has looked better recently.
Beano -- Ricky-Jean Francois had some choice words about how hard he would like to hit Tim Tebow in the game, if he gets a clean shot. What do you think of his comments? Seems like we're still playing football, not flag football, right? Isn't every defensive tackle in the game trying to get a lick on the opposing quarterback?
I think they were irresponsible and out of line. The young man said his comments were taken out of context but I have to go with what I read in the paper.
Which is harder to believe: Vanderbilt at 5-0 or the Rays in the ALCS?
Great question. Either one is really a shocker. It is like finding a bank that isn't in trouble -- it is tough to do. If I have to make a call here, I will say the Rays.
If both Missouri and Oklahoma make it to the Big 12 title game, would Missouri have an edge over Oklahoma because of the location and the sting of what happened to the last year?
The fact that the game is in Kansas City helps. Both schools get the same amount of tickets and the Sooner fans will certainly travel. The Big 12 people are forgetting about Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. The SEC and the Big 12 are by far much stronger conferences than the other BCS ones.
Beano, Will Alabama run the table?
If it wasn't for LSU, I might say so. The Tide may still run the table.
How good is Colt McCoy
We will find out on Saturday. It is amazing to me that he is the team's leading rusher. This is a school that gave us Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams as Heisman winners. Colt McCoy sounds like a sheriff in Dodge City. It is one of the best names in college football.
I called my state rep to include Tommy Bowden's buy out in the bailout. B. Johnson should and my prediction will replace him. Former Clemson player and DC.
It has been a disappointing season for Clemson. Wake Forest is up next and the Tigers are the underdog. Remember some people thought Clemson could challenge for the national title.
Is it a coincedence that UW hasn't been any good since 'Fraizer' went off the air? Who will be coaching the Huskies next year?
That is a great observation. I have no idea who the coach will be next year at Washington. It doesn't look good for Tyrone Willingham and he has had no luck. I would not fly on a plane with him.
How do you see Penn State doing in Camp Randall Saturday night? Wisconsin is always tough, but last weeks 20-6 "close" win still seemed pretty controlling. Hopefully our many different offensive options will be opened up a little more than last week.
Before the season began I felt Penn State and Ohio State would fight for the title in the Big Ten and I still feel that way. I think the Nittany Lions will win this weekend, but I would not be shocked if they did not. I also feel that if Penn State wins this weekend it will also beat Ohio State.
I really like the way my Heels are playing of late and thus I think they'll take care of the Irish at home this weekend. I expect that you, as an Irish loyalist, may think otherwise. How do you see this one playing out?
Before the season began I felt Notre Dame would lose to Michigan State, USC and maybe North Carolina. What Butch Davis has done in two years have been incredible. To answer your question, I do feel North Carolina will win this game.
What is the possibility of changing the USA TODAY poll voters to retired coaches & players who have more time to watch the games every week?
There is another poll like that out there already. It just doesn't get as much publicity.
what is your favorite seinfeld episode, beano?
The Merv Griffin one. I love Kramer's line...Seinfeld asked where he slept and Kramer said, backstage.
Is there any possible chance that T.P. can lead Ohio State into a third straight BCS title game appearance. With Terrelle, Ohio State seems to have that "spark" that they have been searching for.
Yes, but the Buckeyes need help. Obviously Ohio State has to win the Big Ten to get in. I honestly think America doesn't want to see Ohio State playing for the national championship again. I believe they want to see Oklahoma in the title game against someone else.
Were you alive the last time Notre Dame won a bowl game?
Beano, what are your thoughts about LSU at UF?
Florida is at home and it is tough to pick against them at home. Ivan Maisel thinks LSU will win. Then again, Ole Miss won at Gainesville.
Beno, the best line from the Merv Griffin episode is when Kramer changes the format to "Scandles and Animals." Everyone knows that. Is Tennessee really that bad, or are they even worse than they appear?
Not bad...good point. Tennessee is not as bad as the record shows, though the Northern Illinois score was surprisingly close. Tennessee has problems and will have more after Saturday.
Has Clausen really gotten that much better, or has his O-line just gotten more experience? I remember chatting with you last year about how bad the O-line was at ND.
He is playing very well. It helps to have a receiver like Michael Floyd and the OL has improved. Floyd will be a star at the next level one day.
Does Dez Bryant deserve to be mentioned for Heisman?
If Bryant has a big game against Missouri his name could pop up.
Has BYU hit a ceiling on their ranking, now that they're going into their conference schedule? They won by 20 this week and dropped.
That is tough to answer. I would say no they haven't. Obviously they have to run the table. The winner of that conference should automatically qualify for a BCS bowl.
Do you think certain schools gets better poll position after they lose? For instance when WVU lost to ECU they had a dramatic drop in the polls. USC lost to Oregon St they only when to 11. Same with Florida they lost to Ole Miss but they dropped to 12th. Do you feel the same?
Vandy fan? How do you think Vandy will handle not being the underdog?
Playing Mississippi State in Starkville is not easy. I would want Commodore fans to hold off on booking Sugar Bowl reservations yet. I will say it is great to see Vandy, Northwestern, Duke all doing well.
Should a 1 loss Big 12/SEC team get passed by an undefeated Big East or big 10 team for the National Championship.
Depends on if Penn State is unbeaten. The Nittany Lions would get the bid over any one-loss team, no matter the conference.
Let's talk about the hot coaches and their next gigs: SKip Holtz Pat Hill Mark Dantonio Brian Kelly Ty Willingham (just kidding!) Who is most likely to move on to a big time program next year? My bet is Skip Holtz to Clemson
I think Skip Holtz will have his choice of jobs. We will have to see. In my opinion, Al Golden at Temple and Turner Gill at Buffalo could merit consideration if and when other jobs open up.
Why do fans think their teams should get a mulligan for losing? Certain conferences may have more depth but that does not always mean their team is absolutely the best if they lose a game.
I am saying if Penn State is undefeated it will get the bid over any team with one loss in any conference...and they should. However, let's say Oklahoma, LSU and Penn State all go undefeated. Then the Nittany Lions would be left out because the other two conferences are stronger.
Beano, are you really conviced that Notre Dame is back, and do you think they are going to win at UNC this weekend? Also, is USC deserving of that ranking they currently own in front of the two SEC teams with one loss that lost to tougher opponents?
It is a five-game span. They are improved over last year and this is still a young team. Let's see what the record is at the end of the season. I am not saying Notre Dame is back and I said I liked UNC this weekend.
Do you think that Lane Kiffen will coach the Washington Huskies next year?
OSU-Missouri is being played on ESPN2, thats like a slap in the face for these two programs. ESPN2 is for small conference games with no meaning, this game means more than people think!!! What do you think?
Pardon me, but ESPN2 is in around 90 million homes. Your perception of ESPN2 is simply wrong. There have been many good games on that network and certainly Oklahoma State-Missouri will be a very good one.
Time for the pick. I have little confidence in my pick , but here it goes...Oklahoma 34, Texas 31. Hope you join us again next week.
