Thanks for joining today. It looks like we already got a lot of good questions.
Do you think top backs Bryce Brown, Trent Richardson and Jaamal Berry will stay commited until next February?
It looks like Brown will be taking visits, but out of the three I see his commitment sticking the most unless his brother Arthur is currently unhappy at Miami -- but I have not heard that.
I felt like Richardson originally committed just to have an insurance policy set up.
Think some of the Florida schools will have a shot at him before its all said and done.
The emergence of frosh RB Mark Ingram could deter Trent a bit as well.
Berry might be more sold on Ole Miss than people think. He would be the MAN there.
Billy, what did you think of Jelani Jenkins performance on ESPN last Wednesday night?
I thought Jenkins played well -- he never came off the field and is physically very impressive considering he is only 16
Did he dominate like the No. 9 overall player in country? No. But he did not appear to be 100% healthy either.
Billy, Do you think Dre Kirkpatrick will be in crimson and white with his former high school teammate Jerrel Harris? What about Kenndell Kelly?
I think Kirkpatrick and Kelly will end up being a package deal and think the Tide will land them.
If they get those two studs as well as LB Tana Patrick, Alabama could sign the state's top 6 players (all 150 prospects) and I see that being a trend for many years to come now with Saban at the helm
Which players do you see decommiting from RU after their horrible start?
I actually don't see many. Schiano has built that program with a solid foundation.
I think recruits understand they are still rebuilding to become a perennial top-15 program
Just curious if ESPN is going to reevaluate the top QBs in this class? I just think with his play and skills Garrett Gilbert is showing he is the top QB in the class and Barkley is showing he can throw a lot of interceptions. The top overall prospect should absolutely dominate and Barkley is far from doing that. Gilbert plays on a decent team, but carries the team with his play. Time to put Gilbert at #1.
Wow, a ton of questions today about Gilbert moving up. Coach Bill Conley just wrote a piece yesterday about prospects with rising stock.
The article is up there now to take a look at. It acknowledges Gilbert's great performance thus far which resulted in a bump up to the No. 19 overall spot on the ESPNU 150.
Gilbert will get a chance to show his stuff versus Barkley, Shepard and all the other fine quarterbacks in the Under Armor All-American game next Jan
What is your take on Shaq Evans recent change of heart? Also if you had to compare his game to an NFL receiver who would it be?
Anthony I can give you a college comparison in my eyes -- WR Jeremy Maclin from Missouri.
When will you update the espn top 150 ?? Who could be the biggest movers ??? Thanks
We will be writing a Stock up/down column at the beginning of each month. Our one for October got posted yesterday.
Any potential Wisconsin recruits to be excited about?
Brian I think you will love QB Jon Budmayr, our No. 15-rated QB prospect who is greatly underrated in our eyes. Did get hurt this year though.
With J. Jackson, Ricardo Miller, and possibly Marvin Robinson in a few weeks, does this set up Michigan for a monster class in '10?
I think they will have a good 2010 class with a major focus on the offense skill like you are seeing.
Had a chance to see Jackson on film. He has great size and vertical speed to open things up underneath for Coach Rod's spread
Penn State is putting togther a nice year so far. Any chance their recruiting class gets bigger? Doesn't seem they have a ton of targets left.
John they might not have the room to add a ton more but PSU scored big last week.
Devon Smith was a great discovery by Larry Johnson out of Maryland. Had no junior film because he transferred but Johnson saw Jr. scrimmage film and it impressed him enough to offer.
Legit 4.3 speed and a great "space player" for this HD spread. Carson was a heck of a pickup at LB as well
Billy, Zeke Motta has stated that he is going to announce between ND, FLA, and Auburn within a week. Of course as an ND fan I hope he committs and I have heard he had a great visit last weekend. Where do you think Motta lands? Shaq Evans lists ND as his leader. What kind of wide out is ND potentially getting if he does make a committment to ND?
Sounds like Motta enjoyed Auburn too when he visited, I would give ND the edge though, particularly if they can keep some momentum on the field.
Shaq Evans would give ND another great vertical threat with size across from Michael Floyd. Scary thought for opposing defensive coordinators.
Thoughts on Yarnway verballing to CAL? any other big names on the horizon?
Saw Yarnway in person at the Stanford Nike camp last spring, very impressive physically.
He is very strong, and has deceptive in-line shiftiness for a 215-pounder.
His tendency to run upright and stiff at times concerns me at the next level as well as his lack of great top-end speed.
Is WVU football dead? No commits in forever and Stew looks like Coker part deux. Talk me off the ledge.
Things are looking bleak. Team really has no identity/life on the field which is a tough sell for recruiting. More and more prospects are following the teams that recruit them closely on TV today.
How is Tennessee's class looking like? Is the Vols season hurting the recruiting?
I think it may have hurt with QB Nunes but it looks like they landed ESPNU 150 LB Jerod Askew today
This kid lacks great overall size -- but is one of the more explosive LBs in this class.
What do you think about the Canes scooping up Lamar Miller? We already have two backs the coaches like.
There is speculation about him qualifying so they may have taken a pledge from him now thinking about his services a few years down the line.
Is Maryland still the favorite for Travis Hawkins or have his recent visits changed things?
I spoke with Travis a few weeks ago when we invited him to the Under Armour game and Maryland was toward the top of his list.
Hey Billy, What is up with Brewster and the Gophers being so quiet in recruiting, even though they are much improved on the field this year? Are there any more big recruits they are going to add before its all said and done?
I think Brewster is one of the better recruiters in the country and will close strong, particularly if they keep it up on the field.
Billy, non-recruiting question. Who do you like Saturday Oklahoma or Texas????
I think the Sooners' have too many weapons on offense. I am interested to watch how Texas' frosh safety Blake Gideon matches up
He has been very impressive as a starter. A kid we actually had rated as the No. 13 safety last year but was not well known on the national level
What do you guys think of 2010 Florida safety commitment Matt Elam?
Watched him today, he is on our 2010 ESPNU 150 Watch List.
Elam has a great blend of size, speed, acceleration and explosiveness.
I liked him as a downhill runner but will most likely grow into an OLB for the Gators.
Can you comment on the job Mark Dantonio has done at Michigan State?
Tony I think he has done a good job with his team on the field and recruiting off.
Tackle Barrent is a top-10 positional prospect and he will be opening up holes for two strong/potential high-carry backs in Caper and Baker who fit that scheme well.
What do you think about Kraig Appleton??? Any chance he ends up at Texas Tech? He is taking an official this weekend to Lubbock this weekend.
Wow, would he be a great fit for that offense and they are rolling. I do think it will be tough to lure him away from in-state Illinois though, particularly with teammate and fellow WR Hawthorne heading there.
What position do you see Jordan Hall playing at OSU?
Think he will enter as an RB, real quick and sudden and good zone-read runner. Still not sold on his top-end speed and durability, DB is a good possibility
Thanks for the great questions today, I got to run. Looking forward to some great football this weekend!
