Chat with Bill Williamson

Eron -- Laramie, WY

What is going wrong with the D line trio drafted by the Broncos last year? After earning some playing time and showing progress during a disappointing season, I thought Marcus Thomas, Tim Crowder, and Jarvis Moss would step-up and boost a poor defensive line. If anything, these young players have taken a step backward this season (10 tackles, no sacks between them). Is there any hope that Shannahan didn't strike out on all three picks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Sorry for the late start, Computer issue. Thomas is doing well. He's a startrer. Moss has been a major dissappointment and Crowder has taken a step back. I thought Crowder would be pretty good. he was last year. There is tlak about moving Moss to linebacker and if it would help get him on the field, it should be done.

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Yes, I'd think so. Denver would be 5-1 and the Charegrs would be 2-4 with 10 games to go. That's a big hole to get out of. Let's remember, last year when the Chargers started slow there wasn't any competition in the AFC West. The Broncos came in second at 7-9. This year may be a different story.

Will J (Portland, OR)

Do you think it would be beneficial for the Chargers to sit out Tomlinson a couple of weeks, so he can get as healthy as he can? I realize they can't afford to drop too many more games though.

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

It would be very helpful, but I don't think the Chargers can afford not to play him. San Diego has three more games before the bye week and Tomlinson will just have to tough it out. They need him too much.

Jared Wadena IA

Have a daughter with the middle name Elaway. With that being said has the consensus of the fans believe Cutler walks on water as Elway did? And whats your prediction of Broncos/Jags Sunday. Thanks!

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

Elway is still king. He has two Suepr Bowls. he will always be beloved in Denver. But the fans are starting to really like Cutler in Denver as well.

Tim (cincinnati)

Colston back in week 7???

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

I just saw that he could maybe be back this week against Oakland.

Jonathan, (Aurora,CO)

The buzz here in Denver is that this weekend Pittman will be getting a heavier load due to Selvin's injury. I'm worried because I think our running game works because 3 different backs carry only 5-10 times, I don't think any can handle a full 20-25 carries. Your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I'm with you, Johnathan, I think it has to be a group thing in Denver right now. None of the Denver tailbacks have been great by themselves but as a group they've bene pretty good.

Larry (Pasco, WA)

What is the biggest difference between P. Rivers play the first three games and the past two? Which Rivers will we see Sunday against the Pats and the rest of the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

I think a lot of it has to do with the offensive line production. The line is coming together after a series of injuries. But Rivers has not received very good protecton the past two games.

Mike (Chicago)

Messege to Broncos Fans in Chicago. Come to the Riverview Tavern on Sundays, we're up to about 35 Broncos fans every weekend, It's Great to root with other Broncomaniacs!!!

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Is the first round on you, Mike?

Gabriel (Miami, Florida)

Bill, what do you think on LT's slow start this season? Is he going to bounce back?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

yYs, as soon a she gets healthy. There is a lot fo tlak that LT is on the back nine and he may never be as good as he was a couple of years ago. But there is still some life left in those legs. Still, like anyone, he needs to be healthy.

Mike (Chicago)

Sure. I'll be in the Elway Jersey (along with everyone else!!)

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

Have fun.

Steven(Ontario, CA)

What is the status of Eddie Royal amd will Pittman be the feature back this week?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Royal has a chance to play but he didn't practice Wednesday and Pittman will likely be the primary ball carrier.

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Where are all the Raiders' fans today. They have been unusually quiet. Come on, join the party, Raider Nation.

Tom (Simi Valley, CA)

Hey Bill, any truth to the rumor that, after seeing Manuel and McCree these first few weeks, Broncos staffers have been walking around Invesco muttering "We coulda drafted Ed Reed... We coulda drafted Ed Reed"?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

If not they should be.

Rick (NY)

Breaking News-Guns N Roses: Chinese Democracy will be released November 23 2008.

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

My calender is circled.

chauncey (teaneck)

Will Pacman Jones be suspended?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

The Cowboys just announced they will not punish him. But the NFL is looking into the situation.

Herm Edwards (KC)

My Chiefs aren't gonna lose this week! Hallelujah!

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

Congrats.

Pete (Knoxville)

Do you agree with Keith Kidd that Eli Manning is a better QB than Tony Romo?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I kind of like them both. But Eli is really coming into his own and he has done what Romo hasn't -- win when it counts.

Steven(Ontario, CA)

Will we see some "Wildcat" formation in the AFC West this year? We all know LT can throw if given the chance, RunDMC did some direct snap taking at Arkansas. Does KC or Denver have anyone who might be able to run the formation a couple times a game?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Interesting question. You're right. Both Tomlinson and McFadden could pull it off.

Zach (Syracuse, NY)

Bill, any word on how the Raiders' players are responding to Tom Cable as their new head coach?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

It's early but I hear the players like him. He is a no-nonsense guy and a very good teacher.

Tom (LA)

Bill - to quote Tony Kornheiser - in their primes, Shannon Sharpe vs Tony Gonzalaz - who ya got?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

Great question and I don't have the answer. Gonzalez has better numbers in less years but Sharpe has three rngs. Great question.

Pete (Knoxville)

Are the Titans the favorite to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

If they keep it up, they will be.

Jon(Silver Spring,MD)

Big Ben, Eli, Romo. Which do you take at this point in there career?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Eli. But you can't go wrong with any. Boy, there are some good, young quarterbacks these days, aren't there?

Jeff (Iowa)

Shannon Sharpe played with John Elway, Tony G. played with, um, who? I take Tony G.

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Good point.

Will J (Portland, OR)

Al Davis better be glad he's got such die-hard fans. If it were any other organization, I'm sure they would be calling for his head.

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Some are anyway.

Steven(Ontario, CA)

Will Herm Edwards still be the coach in KC next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

I think so but he better start winning some games after the bye week.

Steve (Syracuse, NY)

With that defense---can the Broncos hold on the the AFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

The game against Tampa Bay was encouraging for Denver, But they can't have any more three-game stretches where they allow 113 points.

Jordan (Raider Nation)

Are my Raiders looking into some trade options at WR? Maybe TJ, Roy or Chad? And what's up with Javon Walker? We knew he couldn't live up to his contract, but this bad? We in the Bay Area call that a "Barry Zito."

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Hey, Zito put it together in the second half. Maybe Walker can as well. As for as a trade, Oakland, I'm sure, will think about it. But they may be better off using a top pick on a receiver next year.

Paul (Raleigh NC)

Bill, Any truth to the rumors that KC is looking to Deal Larry Johnson?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

There has been a lot rumors. Unless they got a first-round pick, I don't thnik it's worth it.

Neal Cortland, NY

Is Nnamdi Asomugha the best cornerback in the NFL? I think he is but is neglected by the media. Bill, what do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

He is very, very good. Teams rarely go after him and that's a smart move.

PT, Roch, NY

Bill, how good are the chances that San Diego will get out of this funk??

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

After that loss to Miami, I'm not so sure. They are just not clicking as a team. San Dieog is still very talented, of course, but they have a tough stretch before the bye. The Chargers host New England this week and then go on the road to go to Buffalo and then straight to London to play New Orleans. It's not going to be easy.

Brandon (Oakland Ca)

How succesful can jamarcus be withouth quality receivers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Can good can any quarterback be under those circumstances?

Leff (Purple Pride(The Football kind)MN)

Will the current Vikings D ever be as good as the original "Purplr People Eaters"?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Not yet.

Steve Wisco

What do you think about the Vikes tryin to get chad Ocho? Would it be a good move with vikes startin to head in the right direction as far as character goes?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

They need a good, long-term quarterback first.

Tom (Syracuse, NY)

Which team has a better chance at making a surprise run in the post-season: Chicago or Buffalo?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

Buffalo by a hair.

Larry (Pasco, WA)

You picked the Chargers to win the West before the season.... Are you sticking with it or jumping ship?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

I don't know how much I like their chances right now, but I have to stick with what I picked.

Paul (Raleigh NC)

Will Denvers' Offence bounce back after a pair of not so great outings?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

it could be tough this week with all of those injuries.

Nic (San Jose)

When are our young LBs out here in Raider Nation gonna start getting the luv the deserve?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

You're right. I like those guys. But that defense needs to play better in the fourth quarter.

Justin (Denver)

How great has Clady ben as a first round pick? Coming in the LT position your first year, and he has really picked that line up.

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

Clady has been fantastic. Denver has allowed just two sacks in five gam,s and Clady has been a big part of it.

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

Clady has been fantastic. Denver has allowed just two sacks in five gam,s and Clady has been a big part of it.

Ryan (San Diego)

I REALLY wish people would stop saying LT is in decline. Look at these stats thru week 5... 2006: 89 carries, 336 yards, 2007: 98 carries, 329 yards, 2008: 89 carries, 331 yards. In 2006 he won the MVP award and scored 31 tds, last year he lead the league in rushing. People are WAYYYYY overreacting

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

Very true.

Kyle (Wilkes Barre, PA)

Are the double covgerages Marshall is seeing going to keep him from any major productivity? Will Royal or Stokley be able to produce enough that teams stop blanketing him each play?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Marshall will have to deal with the double teams but he is so big and skilled, I can see him handlng it well.

Tom (Chicago)

Who in their right mind would give up a 1st rounder for Larry Johnson? He's got more mileage than an 88 Honda Civic.

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Hondas are good cars, though.

hondo (los angeles)

Bill, what is the problem with the chargers that makes them that different from last year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Inconsistent offensive play and poorous pass defense.

Tom (Syracuse, NY)

By prediction, how many wins will it take to win the NFC East and NFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

East: 13. West: 8.

Axl Rose

Are you a GNR fan, or was that sarcasm?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

Big fan.

Travis, SLC

Do you think a rookie LT could ever win ROTY? Or for that matter a great LT ever win MVP or Offensive Player of the Year? I think Joe Thomas deserved it last year and so far Clady is at the top with Ryan imho. But I enjoy O-lineman.

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Good point. They don't get the love but LTs are are very valuable to teams and they help change offenses.

Jill (California)

Who are your superbowl picks after Week ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Right now? Don't hold me to it. Steelers vs. Giants. Just for kicks.

Nic (San Jose)

Bill mad respect yo. Help me out, why do the Raiders keep sending Huff out there every week? I see what Kiffin meant by not enough competition.

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Not to put slat on the wound but Oakland could have taken Cutler instead of Huff.

Jill (California)

I'll hold you too it =)

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

As long as I could choose every week.

Tom (Syracuse, NY)

Favourite GNR song?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

Mr. Brownstone.

Edmond NO

Do you think I should get rid of Larry Johnson on my fantasy team.

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Nah, he's still got a gang of yards.

Edmond NO

Who do you think is the better receiver Dwayne Bowe or Roddy White?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Bowe.

Tom (Syracuse, NY)

What holds more truth after last week: Miami is better than we thought, or San Diego is worse than we thought?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Both.

Mike (Chicago)

B-Dub, have you seen Torrian play? is the hype warranted?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Just in camp. He looks the part.

Dan (Doylestown,PA)

whats up with the eagles, they have a good team, whats wrong

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

They are good. But they have to find ways to wn tough games.

Tom (Syracuse, NY)

Both are more true? You're killin' me, Bill! Have a good Thursday, though

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Ok, the San Dieog part. Thanks, Tom.

Paul (raleigh NC)

Bill, are the Chargers in Panic Mode?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

If they lose this week, they should be.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

I've enjoyed the hour,. Enjoy Week 6.
