It was a crazy weekend in college football! Chris Low will be by at 1 ET to chat about it so start sending your questions now!
I'm in the saddle and ready to go.
what do you think they chances are of penn state making it to the national championship?
With the way the Nittany Lions have been playing, I really like their chances. They're getting better and better every week. I think they have to be unbeaten, though, which makes their game at Ohio State on Oct. 25 critical.
Was Arkansas win over Auburn a sign they are improving or just how bad Auburn is right now?
Give some props to Bobby Petrino and his staff for keeping that young team focused (they're playing 16 true freshmen) after so many lopsided losses. Clearly, the players haven't quit buying in, but there's no question that Auburn was the right team at the right time. The Tigers are close to unraveling after everything they've been through lately.
What will Phillip Fulmer have to do to save his job?
I think the first thing is to finish with a winning record, although I don't know if that guarantees he survives. The other thing that would be key is beating Alabama. He's already lost to Florida and Georgia. At Tennessee, you're measured by how you do against Alabama, Florida and Georgia. I think 6-6 or worse, and he's in real trouble
How do you think the Gamecocks will perform with GArcia under center
If last Saturday is any indication (especially the fourth quarter), very well.
Gators or Tide? Better chance at SEC and BCS championship, your thoughts....
I'll go Gators after watching them take apart LSU last Saturday. Offense is starting to click and defense is improving, and I also like the Gators' schedule the rest of the way. If Bama loses to LSU, Tide could conceivably be 11-1 and not even make it to the SEC title game. Now, oviously, if Bama wins in Baton Rouge, the Tide are in great shape.
Will Clemson snatch Bobby Johnson away from Vanderbilt now that Tommy Bowden just got fired?
I sure would come after Johnson if I were Clemson. He played at Clemson, coached there one year and has done a terrific job at Vanderbilt. That said, I'm not sure where Johnson is on Clemson AD Terry Don Phillips' list. I think Phillips may look long and hard at giving interim coach Dabo Swinney the head job if the Tigers finish strongly on his watch this season. Phillips really likes Swinney, who coaches the Clemson receivers.
Do you think Tommy Tuberville's job is in jeopardy?
Only if this season completely unravels and the Tigers don't even finish above .500. They have to show some impovement offensively. But Tommy has been so consistent there and he's beaten Alabama six straight times. That has to count for something. If he were winning nine and 10 games every year (but losing to Bama on a consistent basis), that would sure count against him.
LSU looked awful Saturday...think they will reboot and come back this week?
Yes, I did, although I think they run into a hot, improving South Carolina team. LSU is much better than it showed in Gainesville and ran into a team that put it all together. I still think LSU is the odds-on favorite to win the West and play in the SEC championship game.
Between myself, percy harvin and chris rainey, is there any offense that is faster and more dangerous than my gators???
No, Jeff, I haven't seen one any faster. By the way, you showed some serious jets the other night against LSU.
How does LSU drop 10 spots after losing to the #11 team and Mizzo. looses to the #17 team and drops only 8 spots? And is Okal. State really that good come on!
Because LSU was beaten so badly. But, again, the Tigers will have every opportunity to climb back up in the polls with games upcoming against Top 10 teams Georgia and Alabama.
I keep hearing that Alabama was slated to arrive next year, yet I wonder how well they would be with no experienced QB to lead them after JPW is gone. Is there someone next in line that people have that much faith in?
Yes, they really like true freshman Star Jackson out of Lake Worth, Fla. He's a guy who can run and pass.
Do you honestly think that an undefeated Big 10 team will make the National Championship over a 1 Loss Big 12 and SEC team?
I think if Penn State goes unbeaten that the Lions will get one of the spots, although I wouldn't guarantee it over a one-loss SEC or Big 12 team. Much of that depends on what those SEC and Big 12 teams do the rest of the way and who wins their league championship games.
How is it that Tennessee is the only team in the Top 25 in total defense with a sub-.500 record? Besides our anemic offense what can we blame?
It was a similar story in 2005. Go back and look at the statistics. That 2005 Tennessee defense was extremely good. Yet. the Vols were 5-6 that season. One of the common denominators: David Cutcliffe wasn't there in 2005 and he's not there this year, either.
With Tommy Bowden just getting fired, do you think Tennessee should go after him? It seems as though Fulmer has lost his swagger, especially with the recruiting battles. Obviously Tennessee has not put up the "Tennessee Numbers" this season and some of the past few years as in the past.
If Fulmer doesn't make it, I wouldn't look for the Tennessee administration to go beating down Bowden's door.
Do you think Phillip Fulmer is a good fit to replace Bowden at Clemson?
See my answer below about Tennessee going after Bowden. Somehow, I don't see those schools trading coaches.
Missouri, Texas Tech, and Kansas all have less players in the NFL than every single Big 10 team. Okla St has the same # as Northwestern. Why is this conference seen as legit when they have far less talent than the Big 10,ACC, and SEC?
It seems like everybody has a great quarterback and that everybody can score points. It's hard to beat the passing games/receivers/protection game of the Big 12 right now and those are the things that always dominate the highligts and get fans excited.
Chris, why didnt you answer Urban Meyer's question. Is every bandwagon fan so in love with him that they overlook how classless he is? He did it against Miami, and again against LSU. Coming from a person who is not a fan of any team in the SEC, so I am not biased, how hasnt this been brought up?
Every coach is different. Meyer is one that doesn't call off the dogs. At least, he's consistent about it. He did take Tebow out in the final three or so minutes the other night. But it has been brought up before. I was highly critical of his decision to have Tebow in the game inside the final 30 seconds against Miami and then kick a field goal with a three-touchdown lead. But I didn't see anything out of line the other night, other than the Gators spanking the Tigers around.
Who do you see as potential head coaching hires at Clemson? Any chance we go after Lane Kiffin or Will Muschamp?
Kiffin and Muschamp will both be in play at several places this year. I would think Clemson would also make a play for Jim Grobe at Wake Forest.
How can you say that LSU is the favorite to win the SEC West when Bama has been playing like they have?
The fact that LSU gets Bama in Baton Rouge and I don't think LSU will lose again. Plus, Bama is still pretty young, very impressive to this point, but still pretty young. I just see a slip-up somewhere along the way.
Is there any chance Dabo will be Clemson's next head coach?
Yes, I think that's something AD Terry Don Phillips would consider if the Tigers finish strongly this season.
how will chris rainy's injured shoulder affect the gators in the rest of the season?
Good time for the Gators to have an off week, especially Rainey. Shoulder injuries can linger. They need the Rainey-Demps combo to keep coming to take the pressure off of Tebow.
How come the media never calls out the Tebow for trash talking? Last year against LSU he keep making that stupid hand signal everytime and this year I have seen the same thing from him. It seems as though the media gives a pass for all that.
Tim Tebow is one of the classiest kids I've seen play in the SEC in a long time. He ain't perfect. None of us are. But so what if he plays the game with some emotion. I haven't heard him say he was going to try and take another player out the week of a big game. I got no beef with Superman.
how do you think steven garcia will do as the starting QB for USC this weekend against LSU? and do you think the old ball coach will let him start more than just 1 game?
More than one game ... with the Head Ball Coach? I don't know. That could be stretching it. Nah, I think he'll show some patience with Garcia, who clearly is the total package at QB if he can just play within himself and not force things.
WHO AND WHERE DO YOU THINK ALABAMA WILL PLAY IN THE BOWL GAME
I've got Bama 10-2 at worst, which would get them an at-large BSC bowl bid in a best-case scenario and the Capital One Bowl in the worst-case scenario.
Whats the one weak area you see in Alabama...besides them being "young"??
Lack of depth. They can't get anybody hurt down the stretch, and they've still be been a bit inconsistent on offense. They've just been so good to open games (88-0 in the first quarter). It will be interesting to see how they respond if they have to rally from a double-digit lead. They haven't had to do that yet.
Is UGA done in the East? Vandy was a big turning point for the Dawgs last year, but I don't know if I see it here. Your thoughts?
No, I don't think Georgia is done in the East. But the Bulldogs better be ready to play an 'A' game this weekend. They've struggled mightily the last two years against Vanderbilt.
Chris... you doubted Alabama against Clemson and Georgia (both on the road)and they dominated both teams. Why is LSU any different in your eyes?
You're right. Bama has played lights out in the big games. I'm not saying that won't continue. And, hey, maybe I'm just slow to pick up on a championship team when I see one. That's nothing against Bama. Saban and his staff have done a killer job with that team this year.
Enjoyed it. I'm out of here and we'll catch up next week.
