Chat with ESPN Radio's Scott Van Pelt

ESPNRadio.com
  (12:30 PM)

Hey everyone...Scott is almost ready. He's chatting with Mike Tirico about their show...fire away!

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:31 PM)

What's up everyone? I'm here...ready to answer the most random questions you can think of about sports and whatever else....

KB (Baltimore)

Hey Scott! How about your alma mater Maryland?? Is Heyward-Bey the most underrated WR out there?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:32 PM)

Depends on how you define underrated...I'm sure the scouts know very well who he is and you'll see that this April when he is a high draft pick.

Mikey, Palacios Texas

USC is way over rated. They have no strength in there schedule with a loss to an unranked team.

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:33 PM)

That's an interesting discussion because I think that USC's talent is very obvious. But they continue to have one inexplicable loss a season. But, because they are so highly thought of, they will continue to climb in the rankings as others fall...just like they did last year.

Louie (Philly)

Scott, why can't us?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:34 PM)

Us can!

Jerry Eastwood (Haslett, MI)

Penn State or Ohio State?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:34 PM)

I think Penn State is a better football team. I just can't close my eyes and picture Ohio State losing in Columbus at night. 100,000 drunk people won't be denied.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

SVP: When trick-or-treaters come to your house, what do you put into their bags?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:35 PM)

I have Reese's Cups, Kit Kats, and Twix. I let them pick.

Jerry Eastwood (Haslett, MI)

Hey Scott, what are your thoughts on Lute Olsen resigning from Arizona?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:36 PM)

I'm really curious to knowthe real story of what's gone on there the last two years. People respected his privacy as they should...he had enough equity in Tucson to allow that to be the case. I just really wonder what's gone on...

Dave (K-zoo)

Milk Duds...one at a time or more?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:37 PM)

Don't eat Milk Duds...so that would be none at a time.

John (Dallas)

Scott, do you see the Dodgers signing Manny?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:38 PM)

Their offer makes sense to me...give him a ton of money and a short contract. But there's no way in the world a 36-year old who has show he doesn't always want to try...is getting a 6-year deal. No way.

Mike (San Fran)

As the NBA season quickly approaches.. who is your dark horse?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:39 PM)

I really like New Orleans...I know they're not a dark horse...I'm very curious to see how the Portland goulash turns out.

Mitch (Cincinnati, OH)

What has been your best Halloween costume in your life?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:40 PM)

I went as Rocky Balboa....sweet robe, Italian Stallion, black eye. I would still go if I could. But I'm 6'6" and bald...people hesitate to give free candy to 6'6" bald headed men.

Lucas (Indianapolis)

Hey SVP, what's your favorite ESPN commercial with or without you in it?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:42 PM)

The one where Kenny Mayne was the Kid Rock-looking new kid in town. He asks Bob Ley where the catering is....

Kylie (Austin)

What would have to happen for Colt McCoy to lose the Heisman?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:42 PM)

To stumble in the next month...and have Bradford go bonkers and not lose again.

John (Dallas)

Who's your favorite athlete to watch?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:44 PM)

I'm a big Chris Paul fan at the moment...

Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)

Who is better Big 12 Offense or SEC Defense?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:45 PM)

Defense tends to win out but I would love to see McCoy, Bradford, Harrell, Robinson, Daniel and whoever I'm forgetting go up against SEC Defenses for a week or two. I don't think I answered the question...but I'd love to find out the answer.

Mike (San Fran)

South Park or Family Guy?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:46 PM)

Each has it's moments....I think South Park is more "clever".

Jeremy (Baton Rouge)

You are my personal superhero. What is your weakness?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:47 PM)

Greed, Lust, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, Pride, and Wrath.

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:47 PM)

...and Fried Foods...

Dale (Cleveland, OH)

Will Lebron finally bring a championship to the north coast?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:47 PM)

No.

Ted, The SLC

Impressions on Ute coach Kyle Whittingham after having him in studio?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:48 PM)

Very intense dude. Of all the non-BCS schools I think Utah and Boise are the schools taken the most seriously.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

They mentioned Fried Pepsi during the Texas/Oklahoma game. Have you ever tried this stuff? It sounds miserable.

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:49 PM)

I'm a Diet Coke guy. And I like it cold. But fried anything is worth a shot.

Tim (Hilton Head)

Golf Destination...Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:50 PM)

Neither...Lewes, Delaware...Midway Par 3. Hit it off the mats like the roofers....that's what I do.

Kyle (KC)

I believe you forgot about Todd Reesing. Who you like in the Texas Tech at Kansas matchup. Why isn't this game getting more hype?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:51 PM)

You're right about Reesing....it's not getting more hype because there are too many other big games on the slate. But off a tough loss to Oklahoma on homecoming weekend, Kansas could very well win this game.

Rachel (GA)

Why is it that people who chug diet coke all day only eat food that is terrible for them?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:52 PM)

That is an odd phenomenon isn't it. I ate an apple yesterday, but it was a Jolly Rancher.

Alec (Cincinnati)

How's it goin SVP? What kinda plans you got for the weekend?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:54 PM)

Homecoming at the University of Maryland, but since I went home last week that means I will be here working, serving you the viewer...and parking illegaly.

Al Davis (in a crypt somewhere)

Do you think my Raiders will make the playoffs before I die?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:55 PM)

There's so many punchlines here, but I'll just go with "no" and leave it at that...

Matt (Toronto)

Who are the top 3 teams to contend for the AFC title?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:56 PM)

Tennessee I guess. Buffalo I guess. Pittsburgh, I guess. Seriously, who knows. Does anyone know?

kevin (atlanta)

Atlanta Falcons- legit or still a few years off?

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:57 PM)

Playing in the wrong division this year...Carolina and TB are both good. I think they have pieces of the puzzle in place.

Scott Van Pelt
  (12:59 PM)

Radio show is about to start....so gotta run! Go to my page and make sure you listen live. The chat will continue there.

ESPNRadio.com
  (1:00 PM)

Go to ESPNRadio.com and click on "Tirico & Van Pelt" to continue chatting during the show. Scott is off to talk to Panthers WR Steve Smith, Bucs RB Warrick Dunn, and Blue Jays legend Joe Carter.

Jim (Lansing)

Esiason used to drive around College Park in his jeep during winter storms and pick up our Bentley's employees who otherwise couldn't make it to work. Good guy.

The Suits (Bristol)

Parking illegally, eh? We'll see about that.

Chase (Baltimore, MD)

How do you think the Ravens will do in the AFC?

Tom Brady (bored at home)

Guys, I need some good antibiotics. Anyone got any?

David Fairborn, OH

Do you wear recs specs when you play basketball?

Chase (Baltimore, MD)

Scott, I was hoping you would answer that Ravens question simply because I trust your judgement....I would def be interested in your opinion! GO TERPS!

Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)

That's a personal foul against Chase from MD, whining about the chat, 15 yards and repeat 3rd down.

jay (milwaukee)

Hey Scott. What was up with the camera angle at the Trop last night? Why was the pitcher's mound and plate like off to the right? There was this big swath of field along the first base side that was glaring lights. It was really unsettling.

  (3:03 PM)

Thanks for chatting everyone! See you next week.
