Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Hey everyone. Let's get started

Big J (sacramento by way of KC)

B-dub, I've been trying to get this question answered since training camp. Don't you think Herm screwed this team with his handeling of the O-line in particular? First, you only spend 1 first day pick on the OL knowing its your biggest area of need. Then you start moving the players to positions they've never played, and now we're on our 5th qb!

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

It's an need area for sure. But let's face it. The Chiefs have so many needs. You can only fill so many every year.

sean lk.elsinore,ca

will a win at baltimore really give the raiders enough confidence to make a run at the division.i belive the only thing this team needs is a couple of wins to sustain and winning attiutude

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

It wouldm't hurt, especially if San Diego loses in London. The Raiders could be in this thing, But they have to show they can win consistently.

Jim (Louisville, KY)

Bill, you mentioned in an earlier blog one thing San Diego needed to do to improve was for Philip Rivers to not turn the ball over... He has one bad game and it seems like the little bit of progress he's made with the sports media has taken an exponential step backwards! Why is it so hard for the sports media to give him his dues of being one of the best in the league and still to date the highest rated QB in the league???

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

Jim, the basis for the blog post you speak of us from the last game. Rivers lost two big turnvovers in that game. He needs to improve from that this week. Overall, i really like Rivers and I have written that several times. Thanks for reading, Jim.

Jim (Louisville, KY)

any new news on whether or not Chris Chambers will be playing this Sunday in London?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

He has practiced the last two days on a limited basis. He making progress.

Rick (Philadelphia, PA)

Raiders running game: Why isn't Michael Bush and Darren McFadden not getting more touches? Especially Bush in the red zone.

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

McFadden may not be getting a lot of touches because of his turf toe. But I'm with you -- give Bush the rock at the goal line/

Dan (San Diego)

What up Ill Bill, I was wondering what you think about Javon Walker from here on out. The Raiders spent a lot of money on him and has been a bust so far. Was this last game just fluke play or do you see the Raiders open up the pass game a little more with a significant help from Walker?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

He did well agaisnt the Jets. He had five catches. It was by far his best game. He needs to keep it up.

John (Fort Myers, FL)

Okay, I know it's not the AFC west, but the biggest game this week is obviously Giants-Steelers. Who ya got?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

Could be a Super Bowl preview. I think the Steelers this week.

Will (Montpelier, Oh.)

Hi Bill, I feel stupid for asking this about a 1st place team, but does Denver have any hope from here on out?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

I don't know, man. That defense is in trouble.

earl1226(Durham, NC)

Bill, what are the chances Nnamdi Asomugha escape the Raider nation

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

I could see it. He'd get paid a zillion dollars on the open market. That dude is good.

Will (San Diego)

Hey bill, if Tomlinson continues to make little progress these next few weeks, is there any chance we see sproles start over him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Tomlinson said today he is near 100 percent. It will be interestng to watch him in the next few game sot see if his play improves.

Dan (San Diego)

Bill....Tell me something I don't know. Obviously it was his best game, but have you seen/heard of anything at the Raider organization that says they specifically want to target Walker more, or are they still staying general about wanting to open up the pass and use the Russell cannon. I thought you had the inside hookup on this kind of info.

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

I think it is a combinaiton of him being healthier, of him having a better chemistry with Russell and the coaches trusting him more. I don't think Kiffin liked him at all.

Displaced Charger Fan (Chicago)

Bill, love the blog. You've seen enough of San Diego - maybe it's time to realize that they have good players, but not as good as everyone thinks. And if they are that good, then Norv and (more importantly) Cottrell have to be shown the door.

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

The turht is, if San Diego doesn't make the playoffs, changes will likley happen. That roster is too good to flounder all season.

Almar (San Jose,CA)

In overtime of last weeks game, the first 2 drives for the Raiders were lackluster compared to the GW drive due to conservativeness, Does the playbook become more aggressive this week against Baltimore?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

It should. The Raiders had success being aggressive after being very conservative ealrier iin overtime. They need to go for it more.

Tim (San Diego)

Bill, I think the Bolts' rushing woes are less LT's toe and more SD's O-line. Why has thir line played declined so much from the previous two years?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

I think the unit is stll trying to come together after the njuries.

Ross (Chicago)

Bill, big fan of your work. After the bye, I believe Denver can win there next two playing Miami and Cleveland, even with out #24.

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, those are winnable games but the offense has to score a bundle of points the rest of the season. The turnover epidemic has to stop.

Brett (LA, CA)

What is KC's real answer to QB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

The draft.

Andy, Millersburg Pa

Bill, What are the chances Dre Bly is gone from Denver after this year? He has been a bust from day one. Agree?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

I could see it. You're right. He has struggled in Denver.

Michael Kinnelon, NJ

The Jets offensive line has seen major improvements since last season. In the last game we saw Trevor Scott get to Favre twice. What can we expect from this seventh round draft pick? Future starter?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

I think he has a chance to be a good, situational pass rusher.

Zach Syracuse, NY

Bill, can you see Tom Cable returning next year if the Raiders have a fair amount of success for the remainder of the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Yes, if the Raiders win half of their remaining games, I can see it.

Jack (Baltimore, MD)

Bill, good job as always. How do you expect Joe Flacco to do against Nnamdi Asomugha, aka, "where wide recievers go to die."

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

I'm sure Flacco is being advised to stay away forom No. 21. Thanks for the kind words.

Ganan (San Diego, Ca)

Thanks for the great weekly chat B-Dub, do you believe the AFC west can be won at 8-8? If so, who has the favorable schedule the second half of the season? I know that the Chargers have 5 home games, is it safe to say its them?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Yes, I cna see 8-8 winning this division. Sad isn't it? The Chargers' have a ton of home games, yes. Denver sspends a lot of time on he road.

Almar (San Jose,CA)

So feeling any better about your preseason predictions on standings for the AFC West after this past win for Oakland??

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

It's a marathon, folks. October has been different from September and I'm sure the final two months of the season will ahve their own ebbs and flows.

Jared (Wadena IA)

Thanks for the chat Bill always great. Big Cutler fan here but do you think it is his time to rally the wagons and step up and be the franchise leader like the man Elway was. And on defense bring back a leader like Al Wilson was. Even if they were getting beat they still weren't going down without swinging.

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

You're right, There aren't many leaders on this team after the departures of Rod Smith, Lynch, Elam and with Nalen hurt. I don't think being rah-rah is Cutler's gig. I think he just goes out and does his job. As long as he does it well, I don't think it's an issue.

Hector (Key West)

Bill, what is your evaluation of Vincent Jackson thus far? Has he emerged as an elite WR?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

He is not elite yet. He needs to be a little more consistent. But I think he can get thre. I really like his ability.

Brett (KC,MO)

8-8! The Chiefs are still in it!

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Good luck with that, Brett.

Mike, Washington DC

How good will Ryan Torain be? What is your prediction. keep up the good work Bill!

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

I think he has a chance. He really fits the system well.

Adam (Jersey)

I don't generally come to the AFC West chats, but I figured it's better than working. I was wondering why everyone was talking about Nnamdi, but then I though "Hey, that's really the best thing the division has going for them" No offense, all.

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

Thanks for stopping by, Adam.

Scott (Huntington Beach, CA)

Bill, Do you think Andre Hall is going to see another carry all year? And will Torain get a good share of carries in your opinion when he's healthy? I'm liking Pittmans running right now, agree?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

If Torain tears it up, Hall could be in trouble. That was brutal, wasn't it?

Greg (Denver, CO)

Just how bad could Denver's D be without the Bailey brothers? I mean, this defense was awful already.

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

The Broncos are really, really going to miss Champ.

Bob (Oakland, CA)

Do you think the Raiders will stay with Fargas or eventually move it over to DMac, with Fargas becoming the change of pace back?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

I think they want to get McFadden more carries as the season progresses.

Almar (San Jose,CA)

Since this weekend is also a duel between twin brothers' defenses with the Ryan's, should we expect to see a really grind it out game, or do Flacco and Russell run up the scores??

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

I expect a grinder.

PT (Franklin, NC)

If Tom Cable doesn't return as head coach of the Raiders will he even think about returning to coach the offensive line?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

There is a school of thought around the league if he doesn't stay the head coach, he could reunite with Jim Mora in Seattle next year. They worked together in Atlanta and Cable is from Washington.

Adam (Jersey)

Please, Bill, accept my apologies for a poor attempt at humor . I'm actually a Bucs fan that is just bitter that Denver beat them.

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

No problems at all. We're all having fun here. Welcome.

Lance (LA,CA)

I think where Champ is most underrated is on kickoff coverage. I saw him personally save three touchdowns this season.

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

Good call, Lance, Very astute of you.

Ryan (San Diego)

Chris Chambers said in a radio interview today that he is going to play Sunday

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

That's good news for the Chargers.

PT (Franklin, NC)

Do you think Chaz Schilens will be able to keep the starting WR spot in Oakland and continue to progress?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

That's the plan of the coaching staff. But this is a seventh-round pick. There will be a learning curve. But he has ability.

Sam (Nampa ID)

Do the Chiefs win another game this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

Honestly, it may be tough.

Gabriel( san diego)

Hey Bill, what is this talk of jim Harbaugh being a possible candidate for the raiders coaching position? do you see that as a possibility? If so do you think it's a good fit?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Yes, I've heard it and In think it could happen. He is a good fit. He's a offensive guy, he's young, he's from the area.

Mark (San Diego )

Bill, I think its funny that KC is irrelevant in this chat! :)

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

They'll have their day again.

Jon (Mad-town)

I think it would be the best job in the world to be a sports GM or own a sports team, problem is I have no sports background, nor a ton of money...how do I get in?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Hate to be a buzz kill, Jon, but I'm not liking your chances. Keep on plowing, though, brother.

Brian(Dallas)

Would you start Rivers or Favre this week? I'm thinking Rivers might want to try and prove he is better than Brees but Favre against KC is hard to pass on. Your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Favre.

Derek - Lincoln

How do you like Zach Miller? If Russell keeps developing I think he could be the next great AFC West tight end.

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

I really like him. Russell needs to throw to him every chance he can get. They can be a nice tandem.

Jared (west union ia)

Not that I am bashing him or disagree with him but during Mondays game when Jamie "jack#$$" Winborn had that late personal foul the look on Cutlers face was that of a guy who wanted to punch someone. With you saying that Cutler is not a rah rah guy how far do his facial expressions go as far as having a negative aspect on the team.

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

He doesn't hide his emotions that's for sure.

Jim, Seattle WA

Bill, which denver back from the past decade would you say is most comparable to Ryan Torain in terms of skill set?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Some say Terrell Davis. Let's wait and see on that one.

David-Florida

Wat up bill.Do u think the rams r for real after two huge wins over the skins and th boys?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

It's a nice start.

Rob (KCM)

Is Dorsey a draft day bust?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Way too early to say that. I am going to see the Chiefs Sunday against the Jets. I look forward to watching Dorsey.

Sam(Nampa ID)

Is there a chance that Carl and Herm are canned and KC somehow lures in Cowher, giving him both the GM and Coach position?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I wouldn't say that is out of the question.

miller- PA

Do you see this upcoming match between the Steelers and Giants as this years super bowl teams?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

It's a real possibility.

Casey- Wilmington

Do you think Denver will try and sign another corner to fill Champ until he is back.. liek Ty Law??

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

I don't think so.

Keren (Maui)

Why would Jim Harbaugh leave a great college program to be a "guided" coach under Al Davis?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

If he wants to go to the NFL, at least it's an opportunity. But the Lane Kiffin fiasco has to make coaches nervous.

Vern (SF)

What are the chances the Broncos take a flier on some of their young defensive talent: Woodyard, Josh Barrett, Spencer Larson at MLB...it can't get any worse, can it?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I cna see these guys playing more as the seaosn progresses. Like you said, why not?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, friends. Talk to you next week.
