Eric Karabell
  (3:03 PM)

Hello everyone and welcome to another fantasy chat. We'll take football, hoops and baseball questions today, so let's get going...

Harry, MN

When is Larry Johnson expected back? is it a crapshoot? I got jamaal

Eric Karabell
  (3:05 PM)

Well, there's a difference between "expected" back and when he will really be back. I don't think the Chiefs want LJ to play again. Charles is a decent option this week, especially with Kolby Smith done. Add him and see what he does, don't assume his run ends. Or, of course, he could be Samkon Gado.

Geoff, CO

Eric...I lost Big Ben and Schaub this weekend...who is my best option while I wait for them to heal, say 3-4 weeks: Brady Quinn (DEN, @BUF, HOU, IND) or Trent Edwards (@NE, CLE, @KC, SF)???

Eric Karabell
  (3:06 PM)

Roethlisberger might play this week, so don't assume he's too hurt to play. It's not a great matchup, but he can still be a useful start. Schaub is out a month, if not a lot longer. I don't expect to see Schaub again and would cut him. As for Quinn, we have no idea how he will do. There's nothing to go on here, so be careful. I'd probably use Edwards.

Andrew, PA

If you could would you trade Forte and T. Jones for Colston and LT or would you just try and trade Jones for Marshall?

Eric Karabell
  (3:07 PM)

I would do both trades! The one with Tomlinson seems pretty strong, though.

Lance (Charlotte, NC)

Eric, Plaxico is killing me. I have an offer straight up for L. Coles to unload him. Do I pull the trigger?

Eric Karabell
  (3:08 PM)

Maybe for this week, but for the final 7 weeks, I don't think I could do that. Burress has had a few bad weeks, but like Terrell Owens, he's capable of big games.

Ace (Pittsburgh, PA)

I'll shorten my question. I figure I have to start Forte & Hightower this week. BUT, do I risk waiting for SJax's health updates, or try Torain tomorrow??

Eric Karabell
  (3:09 PM)

Great question. I don't have a great feeling about Steven Jackson playing, so I would go with Torain. A lot changed for Torain in the past week, namely the fact he went from fourth on the depth chart to first in a matter of days. He should get 15 or more carries Thursday.

Henry:(San Diego, CA)

Ray Rice, Ryan Torian, and Jamaal Charles are all available on the waiver wire. Who would be the best pick up. Keep in mind, I will be dropping Cedric Benson and Larry Johnson is on my bench.

Eric Karabell
  (3:11 PM)

Sounds like a really shallow league to me. Benson doesn't have the upside any of those guys have, really. And I think we're nearing the point you can outright cut LJ. But I think Torain will be the first pickup. Rice isn't guaranteed carries over McGahee for sure, and Charles is, but I think Torain has more upside.

John (MO)

What do you expect from Kyle Orton for the rest of the year? Should I drop him for Gus Frerrotte who has a nice playoff schedule?

Eric Karabell
  (3:12 PM)

I think Orton returns by Thanksgiving and plays pretty well, and his December sked is nice as well. I'd keep Orton around a bit longer, as his prognosis has improved.

Ron (Las Vegas)

Hi Eric, I am hearing rumors that Bush is out for the year, any truth to this? Thanks.

Eric Karabell
  (3:14 PM)

I assume you mean Reggie and not Michael, but no I have not heard this. I hope that's not the case. If anyone else knows something about this, let us know! Bush, even now after the missed games, is 10th in fantasy points for RBs this season. Entering Week 9 he was fourth.

Ian (Tampa Bay)

Props to the Phillies, played my Rays tough- 1) Do you think Ray Rice has taken over in BAL? 2) Do you think Selvin Young is a no-go this week? 3) Do you like J. Charles, Rice or Torain more than D. Avery, M. Jones, or L. Moore at flex?

Eric Karabell
  (3:17 PM)

Thanks, I enjoyed the World Series, too. And the parade! No, I don't think it's official Rice over McGahee. Wouldn't surprise me at all if McGahee gets the carries this week. Or if he sits. I think Selvin is a no-go. And I like all 3 of those running backs over all 3 of those WRs as a flex.

John, Chicago

Need to replace Romo, till (week ?? 11). Available on WW are Rosenfels, Ferrote, Quinn, Thigpen and Flacco. What order would you rank them? Thanks.

Eric Karabell
  (3:19 PM)

I'm so on the Thigpen bandwagon this week. I have Schaub on a number of teams, and picked up Thigpen over Rosenfels to replace him. I don't think Rosenfels does well starting, only in relief. I'd rank these guys Thigpen, Frerotte, Rosenfels, Flacco and Quinn. In a week, who knows, Quinn might be fine. But for his first real action, I can't depend on him.

john (los angeles)

Hey Eric, basketball question. Any word on Dunleavy's injury? Is Marquis Daniels a good fill-in for him?

Eric Karabell
  (3:22 PM)

Haven't heard an update on Dunleavy in more than a week, which can't be a good thing. He was really good, a top-30 player, so we need him back! As for Daniels, he's obviously not the same player, but it's hard to get someone to do exactly what Dunleavy did. For now, Daniels is capable.

Should I trade Mewelde Moore to the FWP owner for Torain? Or will Parker's injuries continue to hamper him? Moore is great when he gets the carries.

Eric Karabell
  (3:23 PM)

Moore is good when he gets a chance, but you can't rely on Parker getting hurt again. I'd absolutely deal him to get Torain.

Ted, NY

Is the fact that its already Wedneday afternoon and there is no news on the Matt Jones suspension mean he will once again start this week?

Eric Karabell
  (3:24 PM)

I ranked him this week, just in case he plays, but man this situation is annoying. Make a decision already! If Jones plays, he's a good option. But it's too early to tell.

Mark (Bellefonte, PA)

Do you think Hasselback will play again this year? I'm in a 2QB league and still holding out hope.

Eric Karabell
  (3:26 PM)

I wonder how long the Seahawks will wait for him, as their season seriously slips away. Impossible to tell if he will play again, but I'd lean toward yes, though ineffectively.

Kevin (Worcester,MA)

Is Matt Ryan on the verge of being a legit fantasy QB and would you start him over Eli Manning at all the rest of the season?

Eric Karabell
  (3:27 PM)

Yes, I think Ryan will be a legit fantasy QB soon, but no I would not automatically play him over Eli anytime soon. In 2009, maybe, but this season I view them both week to week.

Pete (Green Bay, WI)

How about a change of pace and go with a basketball question? I have Barbosa as my 3rd PG behind Joe Johnson and Chauncey. Needless to say, Barbosa has been rather disappointing thus far. I am in a small league and other PG options include: Ford, Rondo, Felton, Sessions and Stuckey. Would you hang onto Barbosa or hit the wire?

Eric Karabell
  (3:30 PM)

Barbosa doesn't do point guard things, so if you're expecting 6 assists per game, look elsewhere. Ford, Sessions and Felton are legit point guards, though I don't think Felton is very good and Sessions is a reserve to Ridnour. TJ Ford is your guy. Barbosa will be fine, but they are different types of players.

Mike (Boston)

Eric: Who is the better RB long term, Hightower or Slaton?

Eric Karabell
  (3:31 PM)

I think Slaton, but people seem to be so in love with Hightower from Sunday, I'm probably alone on this. I took Slaton in our midseason football draft, which should be on our site today.

Joe, Indy

Tired of the Oakland boys! Dropping both of them. Who will be the better/safer pickup to play week 10 instead of Fargus or McFadden as RB2. Rice, Jamal Charles, or D. Ward? PPR league.

Eric Karabell
  (3:35 PM)

Good call. I'm tired of the Oakland boys as well. I think I'd order this Charles, Rice and then Ward. We still do not have assurance that Ray Rice is the guy in Balt, so be careful there.

Murphy (Obama Country)

I am insane if I sit R. Wayne for Matt Jones this week? My other WR's are Boldin and Colston. Thanks

Eric Karabell
  (3:37 PM)

I wouldn't sit Wayne for M.Jones, but that doesn't mean you can't. Also, make sure Jones is playing first. He might be suspended. Boldin was my top WR this week, by the way.

Jeff (RI)

Our basketball draft is this Friday night...any players I should know about whose value has risen since the season started?

Eric Karabell
  (3:41 PM)

Sure. Just look at the Player Rater and ask yourself who Spencer Hawes is, and why he is the No. 5 player so far! Seriously, Mario Chalmers, Marc Gasol, Biedrins, already we've seen a lot of players up their value.

Eddie (LA)

Marshawn Lynch for Braylon Edwards, good trade? I'm a Steven Jackson and Willie Parker owner.

Eric Karabell
  (3:41 PM)

I would rather have Lynch, no question, especially with two questionable running backs. And I don't know how we can automatically trust Brady Quinn...

B (NY)

Hey Eric, QB question for you: I have Rodgers, Big Ben, and Cassel. Is it worth it to drop Cassel for Leftwich or Quinn?

Eric Karabell
  (3:44 PM)

I think Quinn could be OK, but it's way too premature to say so. That's my point. Cassel is not great, we know what he can do, and it's not special. If you're taking a chance and you have safe, good options, sure, I'd take Quinn. But to actually use him over Rodgers this week, no way.

Michael (ATL)

I promise I'll stop asking if you just answer! Torrain or Jamal Charles this week? Does your asnwer change if Selvin plays?

Eric Karabell
  (3:45 PM)

Yeah, my answer does change actually. I think Torain, with nobody else in the backfield, is the better choice to Charles, but that changes if the Broncos get him help.

Alex (STL)

What's your take on Monta Ellis this season? Worth holding on to as a back up to Jose Calderon?

Eric Karabell
  (3:48 PM)

Well, I don't think Monta is truly a point guard, even if he is eligible there. Last I heard he will be back in January, and he is worth waiting for. Will he get more than 5 assists per game? With Don Nelson at coach, I guess it's possible. But yeah, if you can wait, then do so.

Jack (Santa Clara)

Real quick - Rodgers or Thigpen this week?

Eric Karabell
  (3:50 PM)

I do like Thigpen, since he has back to back 21-point games and he has weapons now, but I can't start him over Aaron Rodgers. It's not like Rodgers is playing Tennessee, it's a team he can and will throw on.

Josh Richmond, Va

Is Calvin Johnson stock going up or down for the rest of the season?

Eric Karabell
  (3:51 PM)

I guess we have to see how good Culpepper looks, really. I don't think Calvin is a safe No. 1 WR, but more like a No. 2.

Come on (please)

You've answered 20 questions on Torrain, but can't give 1 opinion on Shaun Hill? Soft schedule + Martz should equal decent fantasy points the rest of the year, no?

Eric Karabell
  (3:53 PM)

Look, I answer the questions people ask. I don't make them up! Everyone and their momma appears interested in this Denver RB! Anyway, my biggest concern with Hill is health. He hasn't shown he can stay on the field. I think he can be as competent as O'Sullivan was, for example. Just don't assume Hill will be going off. I don't.

Justin (Queens, NY)

Tough call here E; Pick 2 of 4 from Addai, Grant, Charles and Rice...need a win big time. Thanks.

Eric Karabell
  (3:55 PM)

Addai and Charles, probably. Grant with a tough matchup and the Ravens I've dealt with. IF we find out McGahee is out, all bets are off...

Brady Quinn

I hear you saying.. we don't know anything yet...we can't trust him yet.. etc. But really.. how much worse than my boy Derek can I be?

Eric Karabell
  (3:56 PM)

Worth an own... not a play yet.

Josh Richmond, Va

Would you trade Parker, Moss, Romo for Boldin?

Eric Karabell
  (3:56 PM)

Seems like a lot to give, but if you have depth at RB and QB, you do get the best player in the deal. Romo owners note that brutal December sked, even IF he's healthy.

Alice (Texas)

Hi Eric. I really need some assistance before I do something stupid with fantasy hoops. Do I drop Al Harrington or Mike Bibby for Marc Gasol? I have good guards (Nash, Wade, Rose, Maggette, Josh Howard).

Eric Karabell
  (3:58 PM)

I like Gasol, but not more than Bibby. If you have too many guards, make a trade. And you don't have so many assists that you should cut him. Not the biggest Al Harr fan, but if you can part with the threes, Gasol is worth it. Maybe he gets 12 and 8 with 2 blocks.

MJ (Chicago)

BUZZER BEATER --- WHERE DO YOU RANK Chad P. for the phins this week?

Eric Karabell
  (3:59 PM)

Pennington didn't make my top 10, but he was close. And we projected him No. 2 at QB, which is obviously pretty nice.

Eric Karabell
  (3:59 PM)

OK, that's all the time we have for today. Thanks for the great questions and best of luck in Week 10. Remember there are two chats per day, as well as Sunday morning! Adios!
