Good morning Sports Nation - How is everyone today? Fantasy playoffs right around the corner...who will be available for your roster? Let's get to your questions...
How soon do you expect Steven Jackson to heal from this injury? Think he'll be back in time for the fantasy playoffs (specifically week 15 vs Seattle)?
James: This is a very tough question since so far he has not really met any of the time targets, and that is not saying anything against him, it's just the nature of these types of injuries and how easy it is to aggravate them. He's already out for this week, and that was a smart move as it forces him to rest more (that was probably part of the problem is that he didn't "shut down" enough to fully heal). I would say Week 15 looks fairly promising, but you can't bank on him by any means, really need to follow his status day-to-day.
How is megatron's quad?
OK Transformer: His quad injury was reportedly minor. Don't be surprised if they limit him in practice, but it sounds as if the team expects him to be available for this week's game.
Will Reggie Bush be good to go on Monday against the Packers?
Chad: Nothing guaranteed as of yet, but all along I kind of felt that this would be the game he would return for. It was wise to give him another week under his belt to adapt his knee to what he needs to do in a game, especially since he is such a cutback runner. All that being said, the Saints need to see what he does in practice this week to make a determination.
Im so jealous of your job-it is awesome. Porties surprised us all by playing, does this mean he should be good to go this weekend?
Hi Jess: Yes, how lucky am I? I watch sports for a living. Portis did surprise all if us, me included, but if you saw him and watched the entire game you could see he was not quite Portis-like. Still, he did not seem to be any worse for the wear and Zorn thinks he's in better shape this week than last. SO while I would not say he's "worry-free" going forward, I certainly expect him to play this week, and unless he takes a direct hit that sets his knee back in the healing process, he should improve as time goes on.
Whats up with Jacobs? Will he play this week?
Bryan - and everyone else asking about Jacobs this morning - lots of concern: The good news is that his MRI came back negative, he expects to begin some running today, and he sure makes it sound like it's not a big deal. But, after injuring his knee last year, he knows that the medical staff wants to be sure that he doesn't do something foolish and they lose him down the stretch, which is why I think he's wondering if they will let him play this week. This will probably depend on how he looks, feels and what he can do as the week goes on. I would not be surprised though if they game plan to use their other two RBs more as a result.
Is Addai good to go for the rest of the way barring a set-back?
MJ: I think his performance this week was reassuring in terms of showing that he could do more and did not seem to be affected by the hamstring. I think your assessment is spot on.
Do you think cadillac will do anything this week against a crappy DET defense? How much?
Hi Dave: Really depends on how much they decide to utilize him. TB is in kind of a rough situation with Graham looking as if he's done for the year. Expect Dunn to get the majpority of the increased workload, and BJ Askew may get goal line carries too. They may veyr well re-introduce Cadillac this week, but the team wants to be cautious in how they bring him back. THe implication was that he would be used in a limited role in the first couple weeks. It will be worth watching how much he does with the first team in practice this week tog et a better idea before the game.
Hello Starphania, how are you congrats on ur 49ers winning. Just want to know if you heard anything about T. Gonzalez this week? his ankle ok?
Thank you Sean! LOVE my Niners - so happy for the big win.Haven't heard too much about Gonzalez. His hamstring was a problem coming into the game and he was limited in his receptions, no official word that that was the reason but he's another one to watch during the week.
Is FWP safe to start on Thurs? Or should I stick with D.Williams? Thanks
Chris: Parker ran strong and as we thought, the shoulder harness really did not limit him very much. He said it felt good and it's not really going to interfere with his running plays. So I wouldn't hesitate to use him.
Good Morning from a Winter Wonderland! Gawd, I hate lake effect.. Status of Graham and Asomachu? And I heard Schaub may be out another 4 weeks. True? Thanks....
Karl: Sorry to hear it's snowing already. We talked about TB. But yes, it sounds as if Schaub is expected to miss still more time, up to another month (as in most of the season). More proof that the MCL injuries are typically very hard to overcome. If he can't be mobile enough to play as normal, he risks further far more serious injury to his knee by being in the game, so they make the decision to extend his time off.
is mcgahee's limited action due to the giants and the score, or his injuries? thanks.
Wayne: He actually left the game because of his ankle, but the team sais he could have returned if necessary. SOunds like more of the same - banged up, but OK to play. THe Ravens expect to have him for this weekend, but we've seen how they rotate their backs. THere's no telling how the workload will play out.
Hello Stephania....How is Romo's hand coming out of Sundays game? I heard that the splint will stay on, is there a problem or is this just a precaution? Thanks and GOOD luck to the Niners this weekend!!
Mark: Oh you're so lucky to be somewhere warm and sunny...Yes, Romo's splint will stay on for a bit. He actually feels more comfortable with it at this point so there is no reason to rush him out of it. It did affect his accuracy occasionally, but for the most part it is more of a help than a hindrance, so it's good for him to wear it - and no, it does not signal a problem in his case. Go Niners!!
Hasselbeck...did he make it out OK of his first game back to start again this weekend?
Matt: There was some question as to how he was coming out of the game b/c apparently he appeared "out of it" at his postgame press conference and had trouble answering questions. The Seahawks have said that he did not sustain a head injury, but it sounded as if he got roughed up at the very least. I think he was rusty and it showed, but there has been no word from the team that he actually had any type of setback as far as his back/leg goes. So I expect him to start this weekend.
Do we have something else to be disappointed about is Nnamdi Asomugha hurt and going to miss time?
No word anywhere on him. Will have to wait until later in the week to find out more.
I know Westbrook is always nicked, but do you think his recent stinkers are because he's not 100% or due to Philly's play-calling/poor line play???
Hi Roger: Miss having you on the field...Westbrook is certainly banged up, but that's nothing new for him, so I have to look beyond that as to why he hasn't been effective. The offense looks dysfunctional at times. I am not worried about Westbrook's health affecting his status.
Dearest Stephania, do you think Felix Jones will play at full strength this week?
Hi Dan: We really won't know until later in the week. Since he didn't play, we won't get any clues until after the team starts this week's practice. I think there's a decent chance that he returns, but I don't think he'll be at full strength just yet.
HI! Is Bob Sanders good to go or it is more serious than that?
Jas: The Colts sure hope so. I have not yet talked to my Indy source about Sanders, but like Felix Jones, since he was out Sunday, we don't hear anything else until after the first practices of the week. Won't know until Thurs/Fri how he's looking.
Good Morning! With the Denver RB injury situation, is Hillis the real deal? Or should Tatum Bell find his way into prominence?
Brad: Yes, Hillis is the real deal...and should start this week. Now behind Hillis, it could be a split between Bell and Pope. Pope had x-rays on his ribs, which came back negative, so it looks as if he'll be available. Selvin Young is likely to miss at least another week so you won't have to account for him in the mix at least.
Hi Stephania...What's the scoop on Reggie Wayne???
Hi Dave from up North: Wayne actually aggravated his ankle during the game. He will likely be held back in practice so that he can be available during the game. I think it will impact how they spread the ball around and they will try not to overuse him, but he will continue to try and play through.
Sorry to throw a changeup in here but for those who do play Fantasy Hoops the Rockets saw three drop to injury last night. I don't play but would you mind giving those dedicated fantasy players some insight on the Artest, T-Mac, and Yao injuries?
J.B. How nice of you to be looking out for the fantasy hoops players. Here's what I know so far. Yao and Artest rolled their respective ankles, neither of which appear serious at this point. T-Mac however is a much bigger concern. This was his surgically repaired knee and apparently he said it felt as if he hadn't had surgery. They will be evaluating it more closely and so we have to wait on the results...but I don't like the sounds of it so far...
Stephania, any news on McFadden? he wasn't very active on Sunday.
Chris: The scoop is that the Raiders plan to use him more this week. He had just come off his first good week of practice and was feeling the best he's felt in a while, and I think they did not want to press him and set him back. He came out of Sunday still feeling good, so the plan is to step up the action this weekend.
Big Ben looked good on Sunday. He wasnt hit many times. How is he looking for this week and the rest of the season?
Bernard: About the same. The fact that he wasn't hit much definitely helps him in the big picture, and clearly he can throw time and again. He will not really totally heal until the season is over, but as long as he doesn't get worse (as in stays protected enough), he should be able to function just fine.
Hey Stephania!! Any updates on Marques Colston's knee? He certainly hasn't been himself all year, but will this have more of an effect on him?
Chris: The knee is not perfect but he seems to have come out of the game OK. He has an extra day going into Monday night and that definitely helps him. Check back later in the week to see how much he is able to do in practice.
Orton a safe play from now on?
Will: Well, I didn't think he was a safe play this week and he looked bad. Another week surely only helps his ankle get a little further along. I'm not convinced that he's back to his old self this week, but you can expect him to start, and assuming no setback, should be back to form within 1-2 weeks.
Are you the real Stephania Bell or just The Stephania Bell? And what is up with Scheffler? A solid game when he first returns, then absolutely squat while not playing a lot of the time?
David: The real deal. And Scheffler is still hurting with the groin injury. He saw fewer snaps as a result and he couldn't perform up to par. No guarantee that eh's 100% by this week either. Expect him to play, but if he's limited all week in practice, I would be concerned about how effective he can be this week.
Buzzer Beater.. Branch good to go, safe to play now?
Rick: Yes - he felt good after the game. Nice job getting this one in.
OK everyone - time for me to go. Couldn't get to all of your questions, but I always read them all and I will try to address some of those players in my blog this week. Come back Friday morning as we have much more in the way of practice and injury reports then too! Have a great week...
